[KC - QB Patrick Mahomes practices in full](=) Source: Chiefs.com Kansas City Chiefs QB [Patrick Mahomes](=) (ankle) was a full participant in practice for the second straight day on Thursday, Jan. 26. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Mahomes is not going to miss the AFC Championship Game. His high-ankle sprain is going to limit him on the field, so expect more quick passes to get the ball out of his hands and also minimize the number of scramble attempts. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 2. [NE - Bill O'Brien hired by NEP](=) Source: Patriots.com Updating a previous report, Alabama offensive coordinator Bill O'Brien was hired as New England Patriots offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Thursday, Jan. 26. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] It's officially official now. O'Brien comes back to the Patriots where he was OC from 2009-2011. This hire is good news for QB Mac Jones and the rest of the offense. Matt Patricia was terrible and unimaginative as the play-caller in 2022, so anything O'Brien does is going to work better. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 3. [CAR - Frank Reich lands Carolina head-coaching job](=) Source: Panthers.com Former Indianapolis Colts head coach Frank Reich was named as the new head coach of the Carolina Panthers on Thursday, Jan. 26. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Things were trending in this direction, and now the news is official. Reich was an original Panther when he was a quarterback for them in their inaugural 1995 season. Now, he gets to guide the Panthers in the future in what most see as a strong move for the franchise. Reich is a quarterback guru, but the Panthers don't have one in place for him to work with. A veteran like Derek Carr could be a possibility, or the team could trade up from no.9 overall to snare a passer in the first round of the 2023 NFL draft. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 4. [NYJ - Nathaniel Hackett hired by Jets]() Source: NFL Network - Tom Pelissero Former Denver Broncos head coach Nathaniel Hackett was hired by the New York Jets as offensive coordinator Thursday, Jan. 26. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] The Jets fired OC Mike LaFleur and did a search for someone new to run the offense. That search led them to Hackett, who will go down as one of the worst head coaches in NFL history. The rumor mill will now go into overtime, just like it did last year when Hackett was hired by Denver, hinting that QB Aaron Rodgers could follow Hackett. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 5. [IND - Eric Bieniemy a strong Indy candidate]() Source: KPRC.com - Aaron Wilson Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy is very much in the running for the Indianapolis Colts head coaching vacancy, according to sources. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Bieniemy has plenty of interest in the coaching world, but it's mostly as an offensive coordinator. His contract will expire with the Chiefs after this season, and it seems like this is the year he moves on. Whether or not that's as a head coach or an OC remains to be seen. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 6. [SF - RB Christian McCaffrey confident he'll play]() Source: NFL Network - Omar Ruiz San Francisco 49ers RB [Christian McCaffrey](=) (calf) will not practice once again on Thursday, Jan. 26, but says there's 'zero' percent chance he doesn't play this week. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Oh yeah, it's the playoffs and his team is one game away from the Super Bowl. McCaffrey will be out there, but the team is going to limit him during practice so his calf injury is not aggravated. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 7. [DEN - ILB DeMeco Ryans the top candidate for Denver?](=) Source: 9News.com - Mike Klis San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator DeMeco Ryans has emerged as 'a top candidate' for the Denver Broncos head coach vacancy, per Mike Klis of 9News.com. 'Other Broncos' head coach candidates remain in the mix including Dallas Cowboys' defensive coordinator Dan Quinn, former New Orleans Saints' head coach Sean Payton and former Detroit Lions and Indianapolis Colts' head coach Jim Caldwell, according to a source. But Ryans appears to be a top choice.' [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Ryans would be the fourth, first-time head coach the Broncos have hired if he gets the job. Seen as the hottest head-coaching candidate out there, Ryans would be able to build on an already strong Broncos' defense. Who he would hire to run the offense (and fix QB Russell Wilson) is the biggest question mark if Ryans gets the job. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 8. [DAL - DC Quinn Staying Put]() Source: Tom Pelissero - NFL Network Tom Pelissero, from the NFL Network, reports Dallas Cowboys DC Dan Quinn informed interested teams (that want him as a head coach) that he is staying in Dallas, per sources. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Quinn was in line with the Cardinals or the Broncos to be a head coach again. Instead of taking those jobs, Quinn has decided to stick with the Cowboys. It's good news for the Cowboys on that side of the ball. [SF - WR Deebo Samuel limited again]() Source: NFL Network - Omar Ruiz San Francisco 49ers WR [Deebo Samuel](=) (ankle) will be limited for the second-straight day on Thursday, Jan. 26, head coach Kyle Shanahan said. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Samuel was out there on Wednesday in limited fashion, and it was rinse/repeat for Thursday. He'll be a big part of what the 49ers put together against the Eagles in the NFC Championship Game on Sunday. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 10. [KC - WR Mecole Hardman limited again](=) Source: Chiefs.com Kansas City Chiefs WR [Mecole Hardman](=) (pelvis) was a limited participant in practice once again on Thursday, Jan. 26. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Hardman may be able to return for the AFC Championship Game against the Bengals. If not, WR Kadarius Toney would keep being asked to do more. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 11. [SF - RB Elijah Mitchell sitting again]() Source: NFL Network - Omar Ruiz San Francisco 49ers RB [Elijah Mitchell](=) (groin) won't practice again on Thursday, Jan. 26, head coach Kyle Shanahan said. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] That's back-to-back DNPs for Mitchell. The groin injury is something he could play through, but it could also flare up at a moment's notice. Let's see what Mitchell can do on Friday. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 12. [KC - Full practice for RB Jerick McKinnon](=) Source: Chiefs.com Kansas City Chiefs RB [Jerick McKinnon](=) (ankle) fully participated in practice Thursday, Jan. 26. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] McKinnon has been a great option for the Chiefs as a passing-down back behind starter Isiah Pacheco. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 13. [CIN - TE Hayden Hurst added to injury report]() Source: The Athletic - Paul Dehner Jr. Cincinnati Bengals TE [Hayden Hurst](=) (calf) was added to the injury report and listed as limited on Thursday, Jan. 26. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Hurst has talent, but he tends to get dinged up quite a bit. The Bengals have their work cut out for them on the road against the Chiefs in the AFC Championship Game. Having Hurst available will help. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 14. [LAR - Mike LaFleur closing in on LAR OC gig?](=) Source: CBS Sports HQ - Josina Anderson Former New York Jets offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur 'has the inside track' on being named as the new offensive coordinator for the Los Angeles Rams, according to sources. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Things are shaping up for a Shanahan disciple to turn up underneath another Shanahan disciple. It's no surprise to anyone in the league. LaFleur's stock as a coach plummeted when he was with the Jets, but he can rehab his reputation if he gets the Rams offense back on track with Sean McVay. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 15. [MIN - Minnesota interviews Brian Flores for DC](=) Source: SI.com - Albert Breer Pittsburgh Steelers senior defensive assistant/linebackers coach Brian Flores interviewed with the Minnesota Vikings for their defensive coordinator vacancy Thursday, Jan. 26. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Flores has a chance to interview for the Cardinals' head coaching job, but he's gotten plenty of interest to be a defensive coordinator again. He has been around Vikings' HC Kevin O'Connell from their days on the Patriots, and Flores would bring the kind of toughness needed to the Vikings defense. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 16. [CAR - Steve Wilks unlikely to remain in Carolina]() Source: NFL Network - Tom Pelissero Former Carolina Panthers interim head coach Steve Wilks is not expected to remain with the team in a coordinator role after Frank Reich was named as the new head coach of the Panthers on Thursday, Jan. 26, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] You have to give Wilks a lot of credit for the job he did as interim head coach of the Panthers after Matt Rhule was fired. We'll see if some team offers him a coordinator position, but Wilks should be a head coach again in this league.
