Payton wants to be among the highest-paid coaches in all sports, and getting $20-25 million per year would do that. [SF - QB Trey Lance expected to remain with team](=) Source: NBC Sports Bay Area - Matt Maiocco San Francisco 49ers QB [Trey Lance](=) (ankle) is not expected to be traded in the offseason, regardless of the play of QB [Brock Purdy](=), in the opinion of NBC Sports Bay Area's Matt Maiocco, who notes that Lance would count $9.3 million against the salary cap if he's on the team but $20.15 million if he's traded. Maiocco writes that he does not believe the 49ers would 'remotely consider' trading away Lance during the offseason. His rookie season was spent developing, and his second season was spent recovering from injury. Lance has not 'clicked' in this system the way we instantly saw QB Brock Purdy do that. If he's not traded away, and the team doesn't add QB Tom Brady this offseason, then Lance and Purdy should battle in training camp for the starting job.
