Today, our Dave Kluge shares his thoughts on the Jets running backs. --------------------------------------------------------------- Michael Carter returned to practice on Wednesday and muddied the waters in an already cloudy backfield. Zonovan Knight has looked great over the last couple of weeks. He has racked up 221 yards on 38 touches. His opportunity arose when Carter picked up a Week 12 ankle injury, and Knight took advantage of it. But can you trust Knight again with Carter expected back in the lineup this week? Throughout this season, Carter's role has remained pretty straightforward. In games where he has been healthy, he has yet to see fewer than 42 percent of the offensive snaps. He saw a considerable uptick in work the week Breece Hall was injured but hasn't surpassed 61 percent of the snaps in any other game. It's difficult to project Carter to disappear in this week's matchup against the Bills. So what we're looking at here is a tough-to-predict backfield that will likely be dependent on gamescript. And the player we haven't mentioned yet could be the biggest benefactor. Ty Johnson appears to have a stranglehold on passing-down situations. If the Jets find themselves playing from behind, Johnson could see plenty of high-value targets. The early-down work is expected to be split between Knight and Carter, but the scales can tip in either's favor. This backfield is not for the faint of heart. Between Knight, Carter, and Johnson, it's doubtful that all will provide meaningful fantasy production. It's tough to project how the early-down work will be split, and either Carter or Knight can be quickly phased out of the game plan if the Bills go up early. Additionally, Johnson could cede some passing-down work to Carter. The Jets backfield has produced plenty of fantasy points this season, but it's tough to recommend any back with confidence for Week 14. You might get lucky, but we're shying away. --------------------------------------------------------------- Now let's get to the News and Notes you need. J PS. [CIN - RB Joe Mixon not ready yet]( Source: NFL.com Cincinnati Bengals RB [Joe Mixon](=) (concussion) is still going through the concussion protocol and will not be cleared until he participates in a contact practice, according to head coach Zac Taylor. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Mixon will have to participate in practice, then the Bengals will have to examine how his body responds. He's no sure thing to get back on the field in Week 14, although earlier it did seem like things were trending that way. Stay tuned. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 2. [BUF - OLB Von Miller out for season](=) Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport Buffalo Bills LB Von Miller (knee) is out for the season after exploratory surgery Tuesday, Dec. 6, revealed a torn anterior cruciate ligament. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] The plan for surgery was to reposition the lateral meniscus, which had moved into a different part of his knee, and clean up cartilage. MRIs and other imaging didn't reveal the torn ACL, and they discovered it during surgery. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 3. [JAX - QB Trevor Lawrence questionable?](=) Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport Jacksonville Jaguars QB [Trevor Lawrence](=) (foot) is day to day with a foot injury, but his Week 14 status is up in the air. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Lawrence showed off his toughness in the loss to the Lions last week. Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson says Lawrence will do whatever is possible to be out there against the Titans in Week 14. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 4. [DAL - Dallas does not make offer to WR Odell Beckham]( Source: NFL.com - Coral Smith Free-agent WR Odell Beckham Jr. (knee) did not receive a contract offer after his visit with the Dallas Cowboys in part because the team is not sure about his availability for the rest of the season, according to NFL Network's Jane Slater. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Reports have indicated that Cowboys' owner Jerry Jones has serious doubts about Beckham's availability. They have a stacked room at the wide receiver position, with CeeDee Lamb and Michael Gallup as their top two targets. We'll see if Beckham ends up choosing a team like the Bills or Giants instead. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 5. [HOU - QB Davis Mills to start Week 14]() Source: KPRC.com - Aaron Wilson Houston Texans QB [Davis Mills](=) will start in Week 14, head coach Lovie Smith said on Wednesday, Dec. 7. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Things were so bad with Kyle Allen that the Texans had to go back to Mills as their starter. As bad as it sounds, going back to Mills will provide an upgrade for the Texans' passing game. We'll see if WR Brandin Cooks plays, but Fantasy GMs might be considering WR Nico Collins as a flex play in Week 14. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 6. [NO - RB Mark Ingram out four to six weeks](=) Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport New Orleans Saints RB [Mark Ingram](=) (knee) will miss four to six weeks with a slight tear of the medial collateral ligament in his knee. He won't require surgery. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] That means Ingram is likely out for the rest of the regular season. This means RB Alvin Kamara gets an even larger chunk of the pie in the Saints' backfield. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 7. [KC - WR Kadarius Toney returning to practice]() Source: The Athletic - Nate Taylor Kansas City Chiefs WR [Kadarius Toney](=) (hamstring) is expected to return to practice on Wednesday, Dec. 7, head coach Andy Reid said. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] It's not news when Toney misses practice - he does that almost all the time. However, it is news when Toney is back out there as he was on Wednesday. We'll see if there are any setbacks with his hamstring injury as the week goes on. If Toney plays against the Broncos on Sunday, he's got 'what the heck' flex written all over him from a fantasy perspective in Week 14. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 8. [CHI - Chicago eyeing Week 16 return for RB Khalil Herbert]() Source: Daniel Greenberg Chicago Bears RB [Khalil Herbert](=) (hip) could return from the Reserve/Injured list in time to play in Week 16 against the Buffalo Bills, according to head coach Matt Eberflus. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Herbert left Week 10's game against the Lions with this hip injury and was put on Injured Reserve. It looks like he could come back in time to close out the regular season in a couple of contests. With RB David Montgomery set to hit free agency, Herbert is in line for a larger role with the Bears (if his body can hold up) in 2023. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Burks is returning from a concussion, and his status will be updated later this week. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 10. [JAX - WR Zay Jones limited Wednesday]( Source: Jaguars.com Jacksonville Jaguars WR [Zay Jones](=) (chest) was limited in practice on Wednesday, Dec. 7. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Jones has come through as a solid receiving outlet for QB Trevor Lawrence this year. From a fantasy perspective, Jones is worth considering as a deep flex play in PPR formats. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 11. [PIT - RB Najee Harris not practicing]( Source: ESPN - Brooke Pryor Pittsburgh Steelers RB [Najee Harris](=) (oblique) did not practice on Wednesday, Dec. 7. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Harris is likely to be limited (again) during the week of practice. If he practices on Friday, he should be good for the Week 14 game against the Ravens. With his workload, Harris makes for a low-end RB2 from a fantasy perspective. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 12. [MIN - Vikings designate two to return]( Source: Vikings.com Minnesota Vikings CB Cameron Dantzler (ankle) and RB Ty Chandler (thumb) were designated to return from injured reserve on Wednesday, Dec. 7. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Chandler is a player we appreciate in deep dynasty formats. The former North Carolina back has some Michael Carter and Javonte Williams (his college teammates) to his game. Like Carter, Chandler is an explosive back who (like Williams) keeps his legs driving after contact. He's buried on the depth chart and has been banged up with this thumb injury, but Dynasty GMs should be all over his future stock. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 13. [DEN - WR Courtland Sutton not practicing](=) Source: 9News.com - Mike Klis Denver Broncos WR [Courtland Sutton](=) (hamstring) won't practice on Wednesday, Dec. 7, head coach Nathaniel Hackett said. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Sutton's hamstring injury has him day-to-day leading up to a Week 14 game against the Chiefs. The Broncos offense could use all the help they can get, so we'll see if Sutton can get out there by Friday at the latest. If he's out of action, expect WR Jerry Jeudy to get plenty of looks as the no.1 receiver in a game the Broncos will likely have to play catch-up football almost immediately. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 14. [BUF - QB Josh Allen takes part in practice](=) Source: BuffaloBills.com Buffalo Bills QB [Josh Allen](=) (elbow) fully participated in practice Wednesday, Dec. 7. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Allen's elbow has been messing with his pass placement and accuracy as a passer, but he's been able to play through the injury. The Bills currently have the no.1 seed in the AFC, and they'll want to win out in order to insure they get that first-round bye in the playoffs. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 15. [CAR - D'Onta Foreman not practicing Wednesday](=) Source: Charlotte Observer - Mike Kaye Carolina Panthers RB D'Onta Foreman (foot) did not practice on Wednesday, Dec. 7, but interim head coach Steve Wilks said he isn't concerned about the injury. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] It's Wednesday, so we're not too concerned either. Let's see what Foreman can do on Friday as the team prepares for a Week 14 contest against the Seahawks. If he's out there, Foreman should be able to produce like an RB2 for Fantasy GMs. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- That'll do it for today, Folks.
