[NO - WR Michael Thomas a no-go again](=) Source: NewOrleans.Football - Nick Underhill New Orleans Saints WR [Michael Thomas](=) (foot) did not participate in practice Tuesday, Oct. 18. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] On a short week, even though Thomas has not played since Week 3, it's doubtful we see the veteran wide receiver. The Saints should feature rookie WR Chris Olave early and often against the Cardinals in Week 7. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 2. [WAS - QB Taylor Heinicke to start](=) Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport Washington Commanders QB Taylor Heinicke will start in Week 7 against the Green Bay Packers. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Carson Wentz (finger) is facing a 4-6 week recovery after fracturing his finger in Thursday's win over the Bears. Heinicke is the veteran backup with plenty of starting experience. Behind him, rookie Sam Howell will serve as the no.2 quarterback for now. If/when Heinicke struggles, the Commanders might want to give Howell a longer look in what is looking like another lost season in Washington. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 3. [GB - WR Randall Cobb out two to four weeks](=) Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport Updating previous reports, Green Bay Packers WR [Randall Cobb](=) (ankle) received good news after initially believing he had a fractured ankle, and he'll miss two to four weeks with a sprained ankle. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Cobb avoided a serious injury, but he still might miss the next few weeks. The Packers need all the help they can get at the wide receiver position. Amari Rodgers will get more time as the Packers' slot receiver while Cobb is out. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 4. [NFL - At least three teams in on RB Christian McCaffrey?]() Source: ESPN.com - Jeremy Fowler Carolina Panthers RB [Christian McCaffrey](=) appears to be generating interest from multiple teams, including the Buffalo Bills, Los Angeles Rams and San Francisco 49ers, according to ESPN.com's Jeremy Fowler. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] There are quite a few teams likely interested in McCaffrey. The trade deadline is coming up on November 1, and McCaffrey could be on the move. The Bills would be interesting given their high-powered offense. We'll see if they make the move to upgrade their roster and push all their chips in for a Super Bowl championship. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 5. [BAL - WR DeSean Jackson set to join Baltimore](=) Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport Free-agent WR DeSean Jackson (Raiders) reportedly agreed to terms on an undisclosed contract with the Baltimore Ravens on Tuesday, Oct. 18. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Jackson was considering retirement, but he said he could sign with a contender and now he finds himself with the Ravens. He's still got the speed to blow by defenders with ease, and Jackson will be a long-bomb target for QB Lamar Jackson. That makes him a 'what the heck' flex for Fantasy GMs on a weekly basis. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 6. [ARI - RB James Conner sits again Tuesday]() Source: AZCardinals.com - Darren Urban Arizona Cardinals RB [James Conner](=) (ribs) did not participate in practice Tuesday, Oct. 18. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] The Cardinals may have Conner down for another week since they play on Thursday night against the Saints. That means Eno Benjamin should get a majority of touches in the Cardinals' backfield, making him a flex option for Fantasy GMs in Week 7. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 7. [NO - Chris Olave cleared to play in Week 7]() Source: ESPN.com - Mike Triplett New Orleans Saints WR [Chris Olave](=) (concussion) told reporters he has been fully cleared from his concussion and will play in Week 7 versus the Arizona Cardinals. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] The Saints will need Olave against a bad Cardinals defense. Olave should be the leading receiver in the Saints' pecking order as Michael Thomas is likely to miss another game. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 8. [LAC - PK Dustin Hopkins likely out 2-4 weeks]( Source: Los Angeles Times - Jeff Miller Los Angeles Chargers PK Dustin Hopkins (hamstring) was diagnosed with a hamstring injury Tuesday, Oct. 18, that is expected to sideline him two to four weeks, according to head coach Brandon Staley. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Coach Staley said Taylor Bertolet would be elevated from the Chargers practice squad while Hopkins recovers. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 9. [ATL - TE MyCole Pruitt promoted]() Source: Pro Football Network - Aaron Wilson Atlanta Falcons TE [MyCole Pruitt](=) was signed off the practice squad Tuesday, Oct. 18. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Primarily a blocker, Pruitt did get a touchdown grab last week in the win over the 49ers. We doubt that usage as a receiver grows, as the Falcons have Kyle Pitts who is a better receiving weapon. [PIT - Kenny Pickett in protocol]() Source: NFL Network - Andrew Siciliano Pittsburgh Steelers QB [Kenny Pickett](=) (concussion) was placed in the league's concussion protocol Tuesday, Oct. 18. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] We'll see how Pickett works through the concussion protocol as the week goes on. The Steelers travel to Miami to play the Dolphins on Sunday Night Football in Week 7. Mitchell Trubisky is the starter if Pickett can't clear the league protocol in time. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 11. [TEN - TE Delanie Walker retires]( Source: TennesseeTitans.com - Jim Wyatt Former Tennessee Titans TE Delanie Walker signed a one-day contract with the Titans to retire Tuesday, Oct. 18. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Walker came into the league as a sixth-round pick for the 49ers in the 2006 NFL draft. Coming out of Central Missouri, Walker was a fine receiving weapon for the 49ers and the Titans - with each team for seven seasons apiece. The Titans have a rookie, Chigoziem Okonkwo, who reminds us of a young Walker. We'll see if he can flourish the way that Walker did in the pros. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 12. [CAR - QB Sam Darnold might be cleared soon]( Source: ProFootballTalk.com - Darin Gantt Carolina Panthers QB Sam Darnold (shoulder) might be cleared to practice this week, interim head coach Steve Wilks said Monday, Oct. 17, but the coach said he doesn't what that it means for his current quarterback rotation. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] At this time, P.J. Walker is the Panthers' starter. That's not a great option for the team, and while regular starter Baker Mayfield (ankle) misses time perhaps Darnold would be an option. We'll see when he's cleared and what he looks like in practice before we look to see if Darnold is actually going to start for the Panthers again. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 13. [NE - WR Kendrick Bourne may be on the move]() Source: ESPN.com - Jeremy Fowler New England Patriots WR [Kendrick Bourne](=) 'would welcome a change in uniform due to declining opportunities,' although the Patriots appear inclined to keep him on the roster, according to ESPN.com's Jeremy Fowler. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Bourne could use a change of scenery. He's not getting used much by the Patriots, gathering in only 11 catches over the first six games of the season. The Raiders are a team that is frequently rumored to be interested in Bourne. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 14. [CHI - WR Ihmir Smith-Marsette gets the boot]() Source: ESPN.com - Courtney Cronin Chicago Bears WR [Ihmir Smith-Marsette](=) was waived Tuesday, Oct. 18. WR Isaiah Coulter was signed off the practice squad to replace him on the roster. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] A fifth-round pick of the Vikings in the 2021 NFL draft, Smith-Marsette played 25 snaps last week on Thursday Night Football and dropped his lone target. He's young enough and talented enough to get picked up on waivers by another team. Coulter is a tough receiver with good concentration on underneath routes. We'll watch both players but only in super deep dynasty formats. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 15. [IND - RB Deon Jackson dealing with quad injury]( Source: ESPN.com - Stephen Holder Indianapolis Colts RB [Deon Jackson](=) (quad) left the team's Week 6 game against the Jacksonville Jaguars early in the fourth quarter with a quad injury and did not return. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Jackson has looked solid over the last couple of weeks in place of injured starter Jonathan Taylor. We should see Taylor back in action this week, but watch the practice reports as the week goes on. Phillip Lindsay would get more work if Taylor isn't quite ready. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 16. [NE - WR Kendrick Bourne apparently battling turf toe]() Source: NESN.com - Zack Cox New England Patriots WR [Kendrick Bourne](=) (toe) didn't play much in Week 6 against the Cleveland Browns, and it was reported Monday, Oct. 17 that he is dealing with turf toe, although a source said 'as of now (it) doesn't seem that serious.' [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] A turf toe that is 'not serious' is still a bad injury to deal with. Bourne went down early in the game against the Browns. That led to more playing time for rookie WR Tyquan Thornton - and he came through in a big way with two touchdowns. With Thornton's emergence, the Patriots have no need to rush Bourne back from an injury that will need plenty of time to properly heal. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 17. [NYG - NY Giants' WR duo generating some trade interest]() Source: ESPN.com - Jeremy Fowler New York Giants WR [Darius Slayton](=) is an 'obvious option' to be traded before the league's Nov. 1 deadline, according to ESPN.com's Jeremy Fowler. Per Fowler, teams are also 'keeping an eye' on WR [Kadarius Toney](=). [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Slayton is taking a backseat in the Giants' offense, especially with rookie WR Wan'Dale Robinson emerging as a weapon. The Giants are rolling at 5-1, and they might use a player like Slayton to strengthen their roster or their draft capital for next year. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- That'll do it for today, Folks. Thanks for reading and thanks for being part of the Footballguys Family.
