[LAR - QB Matthew Stafford's injury could linger?](=) Source: ESPN.com - Dan Graziano Los Angeles Rams QB Matthew Stafford's (elbow) elbow issue could be an issue all season long, per ESPN's Dan Graziano. "My impression of this situation is that it affects Stafford's practice schedule all year and could also, obviously, affect his performance on Sundays." [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] We'll be watching closely on Thursday night when Stafford opens the season against the Bills. The Rams are saying everything is fine and it's nothing to worry about and they have a plan. But that's expected. If it does become an issue, it could affect not just Stafford and his targets, but the arc of the Rams' season. Stafford lead the league in interceptions last year. This isn't enough to move Stafford or his targets down on our boards, but we should be ready to react if he is struggling through the first weeks of the season. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 2. [SF - Wilson clearly ahead as #2 back]() Source: Matt Barrows - The Athletic Matt Barrows, of The Athletic, believes that there is a "clear demarcation" between Jeff Wilson and the other running backs behind Elijah Mitchell. He also expects Wilson to get the third down snaps vacated by JaMycal Hasty when he was released. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Wilson is the 49ers back to take late in drafts as an Elijah Mitchell injury hedge. He has been outstanding when asked to start, and the team trusts him at the goal line. As for third round pick Tyrion Davis-Price and UDFA Jordan Mason, Barrows thinks Davis-Price will be active because of his speed and ability to contribute on special teams, but cautions that no one knew Sermon would be inactive Week 1 at this time last year. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 3. [JAX - DE Mario Edwards signed.](=) Source: ESPN.com - Jeremy Fowler The Jacksonville Jaguars signed free-agent DE Mario Edwards Jr. (Bears) Sunday, Sept. 4, according to a source. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Defensive end was one of the thinnest positions on the Jaguars roster, and they still only have one true nose tackle, but Edwards will actually only go to the practice squad. The team also brought back Adam Gotsis today after releasing him earlier this week to claim LB Caleb Johnson after the Bears waived him. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 4. [CLE - Joe Haeg headed to Cleveland]() Source: NFL Network - Mike Garafolo The Cleveland Browns will sign free-agent OL Joe Haeg, according to a source. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Haeg was released by the Steelers, who are at the bottom of most offensive line rankings listed, but he also drew interest from the Raiders. The Browns have starting right tackle Jack Conklin coming back from a ruptured patellar tendon, he's unsure for Week 1 vs. Carolina, and Chris Hubbard, who was the starter this offseason while Conklin was out, hasn't practiced recently with an undisclosed injury and is coming back from a triceps injury that ended his 2021 after one game. 2021 Fourth-round pick James Hudson is also a candidate to start if Conklin and Hubbard can't go. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 5. [BUF - DT Tim Settle to play in Week 1]() Source: The Athletic - Joe Buscaglia Buffalo Bills DT Tim Settle (calf) is expected to play in Week 1, head coach Sean McDermott said on Sunday, Sept. 4. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Settle was one of the best bargain pickups in free agency. He was dominant in a preseason game against Ryan Kelly and Quenton Nelson, who are among the best in the league at their positions. He should be on your radar in IDP leagues that require two starting defensive tackles. [BUF - S Jordan Poyer expected to play Week 1]() Source: The Athletic - Joe Buscaglia Buffalo Bills S Jordan Poyer (elbow) is expected to play in Week 1, head coach Sean McDermott said on Sunday, Sept. 4. 'I'll be surprised if he isn't [on the field],' McDermott said. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] The Bills need Poyer against the Rams passing game as they'll be without #1 corner Tre'Davious White, who is still on the PUP list and will miss the first four games. White's absence should help Allen Robinson in his Rams debut, while Poyer and Hyde could be part of the effort to contain Cooper Kupp. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 7. [BUF - WR Isaiah McKenzie returns to practice]( Source: NFL Network - Mike Giardi Buffalo Bills WR Isaiah McKenzie (undisclosed) returned to practice on Sunday, Sept. 4. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] McKenzie has been one of the stories of training camp, seizing a slot receiver role vacated when the team brought him back and let Cole Beasley walk in free agency (Beasley remains unsigned). McKenzie had 11 catches for 125 yards in his only start last year. This news helps bolster the case for taking him in the early part of your draft's end game, especially in PPR leagues. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 8. [IND - Hines could see career high in catches](=) Source: Dan Graziano - ESPN Dan Graziano of ESPN reports that the Colts "want (RB Nyheim) Hines to be a part of what they do on offense", and that we shouldn't be surprised if he sets a career high in catches this year. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] That would be 64 catches, which would make him relevant in PPR leagues and a hit in best ball leagues, assuming he got at least four total touchdowns, which he did in both seasons (2018 and 2020) that he recorded 63 catches. There have been multiple signals that Hines role will grow, including directly from head coach Frank Reich, who advised us to take Hines in fantasy leagues. It won't cost more than a pick in the 10th round. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 9. [SEA - Kenneth Walker III could be ready for Week 1]() Source: Pro Football Network - Aaron Wilson Seattle Seahawks RB Kenneth Walker III (hernia) has made a quick recovery from hernia surgery and has already resumed practicing. He has not been ruled out for the season opener versus the Denver Broncos but it is more likely that he will make his NFL debut in Week 2's game against the San Francisco 49ers. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] This is as good an outcome as you could have hoped for if you drafted Walker. Rashaad Penny is the starter going into the season, but Walker was closing ground on him before the injury, and Penny's injury history indicates that it will be an upset if the veteran doesn't miss any time. Travis Homer should also play a passing down role, so for one of Penny or Walker to be relevant, they'll have to go on a tear, or the Seahawks will need to be competitive. They'll open with the Broncos. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- That'll do it for today, Folks.
