[NE - RB Rhamondre Stevenson could become the RB1](=) Source: NESN.com - Zack Cox New England Patriots RB Rhamondre Stevenson could eventually leapfrog RB Damien Harris for early downs, in the opinion of beat writer Zack Cox. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] This wouldn't be a huge surprise. Stevenson is just as powerful as Harris and has more burst. Ty Montgomery isn't 100%, so Stevenson could also get passing down work early in the season. He should definitely be the first Patriots back drafted in fantasy leagues, and perhaps as early as the seventh round. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 2. [HOU - WR Brandin Cooks clicking with QB]() Source: ESPN.com - DJ Bien-Aime II Houston Texans WR Brandin Cooks and QB Davis Mills have worked well together during practice, according to head coach Lovie Smith. 'The chemistry that I've seen throughout, it's been really good,' Smith said. 'They like playing together, and that's gonna lead to positive results.' [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Cooks showed last year that he can transcend quarterback play, posting a 1000-yard season for the sixth time despite playing with a third-round rookie quarterback. Now his quarterback should be improved in his second year. Cooks presents a higher floor than his ADP peers, but maybe not quite as high a ceiling. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 3. [MIN - TE Irv Smith likely to play in opener]( Source: St. Paul Pioneer Press - Chris Tomasson Minnesota Vikings TE Irv Smith (thumb) has been catching balls for 'several days' and is expected to be ready for Week 1 against the Green Bay Packers after undergoing thumb surgery on Aug. 1. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Smith missed the installation of the new offense this summer, but is still the best tight end on the team. He hasn't been to put it all together yet, but is worth a late pick in tight end premium leagues to see if he can start to blossom in a likely improved offense. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 4. [JAX - Jags add James McCourt]() Source: Pro Football Network - Aaron Wilson Free-agent PK James McCourt (Jaguars) was signed to the practice squad of the Jacksonville Jaguars Thursday, Sept. 1, according to a league source. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] The team settled on Riley Patterson, a strong-legged kicker that lost the Lions kicker battle to Austin Seibert, but McCourt was perfect in the final preseason game for the team before Patterson became available. If Patterson falters, we could see McCourt before long. [DET - Jameson Williams on track]() Source: MLive.com - Benjamin Raven Detroit Lions WR Jameson Williams (knee) is on track in his recovery from a torn anterior cruciate ligament, and he could accelerate his return, according to general manager Brad Holmes. 'He is on track, again, I'm not going to put out a hard date, but I will say, the weeks and weeks he's strung together with his rehab, and he's so gifted from a genetic standpoint,' Holmes said. 'Once he keeps that consistency going, it actually could accelerate that return that we're thinking.' [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Williams could be an instant hit in the deep passing game. If benches are deep enough or if the league is deep enough that the waiver wire is unlikely to yield many impact pick-ups, Williams is worth carrying through his injury to see what he can do once he's healthy enough to play. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 6. [ARI - S Jalen Thompson financials]() Source: Pro Football Network - Aaron Wilson Updating a previous report, Arizona Cardinals S Jalen Thompson signed a three-year contract extension worth a reported $40 million - including $24.5 million guaranteed - to remain with the team Friday, Sept. 2. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] The Cardinals have a lot of issues at corner, but at safety they have Thompson, coming off of the best year of his career after the team took him in the fifth round of the 2019 supplemental draft, and Budda Baker, giving them one of the best young tandems in the league. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 7. [DET - RB Jermar Jefferson returning to Detroit]() Source: Pro Football Network - Aaron Wilson Free-agent RB Jermar Jefferson (Lions) was signed to the Detroit Lions' practice squad Thursday, Sept. 1. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Jefferson lost out to Craig Reynolds in the battle to be the team's #3 running back, but could be called back up to the active roster if any of the top three backs get hurt.
