[] 1. [WAS - Brian Robinson to NFI](=) Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport Washington Commanders RB Brian Robinson Jr. (leg) was placed on the Reserve/Non-Football Injury list Thursday, Sept. 1, which means he'll miss the first four weeks. There's a chance he's ready for Week 5. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Robinson is reportedly in good spirits after surgery to repair damage from gunshot wounds after an attempted robbery. We'll see what the reports say near the end of September. When Robinson is healthy, he should be the lead back for the Commanders. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 2. [DEN - QB Russell Wilson signs new deal]() Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter Denver Broncos QB Russell Wilson agreed to a five-year, $245 million extension Thursday, Sept. 1, that includes $165 million guaranteed. He's now under contract for seven years and $296 million. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] When the Broncos traded for Wilson earlier this year the plan was to get him a new contract. Once Broncos ownership was settled earlier this summer, the clock was ticking on a new deal for their franchise quarterback. Now, Wilson can play distraction-free as the Broncos offense will 'let him cook' in 2022. It may take some time for this complex offense to get up to speed, but when they're firing on all cylinders the Broncos offense could be quite a high-powered unit. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 3. [DAL - WR Michael Gallup 'getting close']( Source: The Dallas Morning News - Michael Gehlken Dallas Cowboys WR Michael Gallup (knee) is coming along very well in his rehab from a torn left anterior cruciate ligament, according to comments made by head coach Mike McCarthy on Thursday, Sept. 1.'(Gallup) looks excellent. He is getting close. He has hit every target. His rehab is going very smooth. Just staying on the plan,' McCarthy told reporters Thursday. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] This was the plan all along. The Cowboys did not put Gallup on IR, so he's available to play in Week 1. Now, he won't be ready for the season opener (most likely), but clearly, the team expects Gallup to be ready at some point in the month of September. Fantasy GMs drafting now are sometimes getting Gallup as a value pick. He's got WR3/flex upside when healthy playing opposite of superstar WR CeeDee Lamb. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 4. [PHI - RB Trey Sermon picked up by Philadelphia]() Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter Free-agent RB Trey Sermon (49ers) was claimed off waivers by the Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday, Sept. 1. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] The Eagles are looking for running back talent, and Sermon certainly has the physical skill set required to make it in the NFL. What he lacked with the 49ers was patience and vision as a runner. That's the wide-zone system made famous by Mike Shanahan, so staying with your blocks is critical for success. The Eagles have Shane Steichen as their offensive coordinator. They'll have plenty of 'spread to run' concepts which could lead to larger holes, which is something that fits Sermon's style better. It's a good fit for Sermon, and the dirty secret in the NFL is that it's always about fit. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 5. [CHI - N'Keal Harry goes to IR]( Source: Chicago Bears PR Chicago Bears WR N'Keal Harry (ankle) was placed on the injured reserve list Thursday, Sept. 1. He will be eligible to return in Week 5. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] The Bears traded the Patriots for their former first-round pick because they're desperate at wide receiver behind Darnell Mooney. It didn't take long for Harry to get banged up, and now he's set to miss the first month of the regular season. Harry needed a fresh start after failing to impress with the Patriots, but his Bears career is off to a bad start. We're not expecting much when he is healthy and does see the field in Chicago. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 6. [CAR - QB Sam Darnold placed on IR](=) Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport Carolina Panthers QB Sam Darnold (ankle) was placed on the injured reserve list Thursday, Sept. 1. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] The Panthers have Baker Mayfield as their starter, and Darnold is in line to be the primary backup when healthy. Now that he's on IR, Darnold will be forced to miss the first four games of the season. The high-ankle sprain was expected to take about a month to heal, so Darnold should be good to go when he's eligible to come off IR. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 7. [TEN - RB Derrick Henry gets a raise](=) Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport Tennessee Titans RB Derrick Henry reportedly agreed to a reworked contract that will give him a $2 million raise in 2022 and allow him to earn $14 million this season, according to sources. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] It's an interesting move with implications in 2023. None of his base salary next season is guaranteed, so the Titans have an out if Henry's game falls off. However, if the star running back continues to play at a high level he could be in line for a new contract. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 8. [CIN - TE Hayden Hurst to have big role?]() Source: ESPN.com - Dan Graziano Cincinnati Bengals TE Hayden Hurst will play a bigger role in the offense than TE C.J. Uzomah did last season because of his ability as a vertical threat, in the opinion of Dan Graziano of ESPN.com. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] The Bengals could use an outlet receiver like Hurst as a security blanket for QB Joe Burrow. The team doesn't want Burrow to get beat up as he has been over the last two seasons. Featuring more targets underneath for a guy like Hurst makes sense. We like him as a low-end TE2 with upside. Hurst is most likely on your waiver wire, but keep him on speed dial if signs (and production) point to him being a larger part of the offense than some think. [] 9. [PHI - RB Miles Sanders returns](=) Source: ESPN.com - Tim McManus Philadelphia Eagles RB Miles Sanders (hamstring) was spotted at practice for the first time in over two weeks Thursday, Sept. 1. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Good news for Sanders here. Fantasy GMs are wondering how the Eagles backfield is going to look in the regular season, especially with QB Jalen Hurts taking away some rushing opportunities (including the ones near pay dirt). Sanders should be the primary running back, and from a fantasy perspective, he should produce like an RB2/RB3 this season. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 10. [BUF - WR Isaiah McKenzie missing time](=) Source: ESPN.com - Alaina Getzenberg Buffalo Bills WR Isaiah McKenzie (undisclosed) suffered an undisclosed injury on Saturday, Aug. 27, and has not practiced with the team since, according to ESPN.com's Alaina Getzenberg. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] McKenzie is trying to earn a larger role on offense as the team's no.3 receiver. He's been in a competition for free agent addition WR Jamison Crowder for that role. This injury will need to be further elaborated upon before we know who could get most of those slot snaps in Week 1. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 11. [DAL - Dallas adds two to practice squad]() Source: Dallas Cowboys Public Relations Free-agent RB Qadree Ollison (Falcons) and C Dakoda Shepley (Seahawks) were added to the practice squad of the Dallas Cowboys on Thursday, Sept. 1. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Ollison has some size and a strong mentality to his game. He did flash a nose for the end zone as a rookie with the Falcons, but that was back in 2019. Ollison does provide special teams value, so that's likely his role if he makes it to the active roster for the Cowboys. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 12. [HOU - TE O.J. Howard meeting with Houston](=) Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport Free-agent TE O.J. Howard (Bills) is visiting with the Houston Texans on Thursday, Sept. 1. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Howard is just not the same player he used to be. He struggled to impress in Bills' camp, and Howard could not get much separation when running routes. A few teams have shown interest in the veteran now that he's on the open market. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 13. [LAC - TE Donald Parham returns to practice]( Source: The Athletic - Daniel Popper Los Angeles Chargers TE Donald Parham (hamstring) returned to practice and participated in individual drills Wednesday, Aug. 31. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Parham is a talented backup we're waiting to see more from. He's missed most of the summer due to this hamstring injury but looks to be trending in the right direction. Gerald Everett is their top tight end, but Parham could get some targets as he creates mismatches every time he steps onto the field. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 14. [NYG - WR Kenny Golladay had offseason surgery]() Source: ESPN.com - Jordan Raanan New York Giants WR Kenny Golladay (undisclosed) underwent an unspecified medical procedure this offseason that kept him sidelined during spring workouts, according to general manager Joe Schoen. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] It's not been an excellent time for Golladay with the Giants. He turned in a disappointing 2021 season where he didn't find the end zone. His camp reports have been poor, and Golladay played more than a no.1 (?) wide receiver should in the preseason. Fantasy GMs should let somebody else draft Golladay, and we see him mainly as a WR6 in 2022. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 15. [NE - WR Lynn Bowden joins New England's practice squad]( Source: ESPN.com - Field Yates Free-agent WR Lynn Bowden (Dolphins) was added to the practice squad of the New England Patriots on Thursday, Sept. 1. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Bowden is the type of player the Patriots can use. He's listed as a wide receiver, but Bowden can also play running back and gadget quarterback if need be. He may never develop as hoped, but the Patriots are a team who knows what to do with a versatile skill set like Bowden has. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 16. [PHI - Philadelphia welcomes La'Mical Perine to practice squad](=) Source: ESPN.com - Tim McManus Free-agent RB La'Mical Perine (Jets) was signed to the practice squad of the Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday, Sept. 1. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Perine is a solid back with a good (not great) skill set on all three downs. The Eagles will use him as depth on the team if he gets to the 53-man roster. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- That'll do it for today, Folks.
