[SEA - QB Geno Smith named Week 1 starter](=) Source: ESPN.com - Brady Henderson Seattle Seahawks QB Geno Smith will get the start over Drew Lock in Week 1 against the Denver Broncos, according to head coach Pete Carroll. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Zero surprise here. Lock played most of the preseason finale against the Cowboys and threw three interceptions. Seattle wants to win with defense and running the ball, so that means the quarterback must take care of the ball. Smith will do that, and Lock clearly has a problem doing that. It's no matter as neither option is great, and both quarterbacks should start this season. We expect the Seahawks to flounder this year and then find their quarterback of the future in next year's draft. [CAR - QB Sam Darnold out 4-6 weeks](=) Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport Carolina Panthers QB Sam Darnold (ankle) is expected to miss four to six weeks with a high ankle sprain, per sources on Saturday, Aug. 27. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Darnold already lost the starting job to Baker Mayfield, so he was going to be the primary backup to start the regular season. Now, those duties will go to P.J. Walker for the first month or so. When Darnold returns, he should be the no.2 behind Mayfield again. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Smith signed a two-year deal with the Saints to stay with the team earlier this offseason. [CAR - QB Baker Mayfield solid in finale](=) Source: ESPN.com Carolina Panthers QB Baker Mayfield looked good in the preseason finale on Friday, Aug. 26. Mayfield completed 9-of-15 passes for 89 yards and two touchdowns, while also adding one carry for four yards. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Mayfield was very Mayfield-like in the preseason finale. The Panthers starting quarterback is solid-yet-unspectacular most of the time, and sometimes he's just flat-out bad. Panthers head coach Matt Rhule is in a make-or-break year, and having Mayfield as his starter gives him a better chance....not much of a chance but a better chance than what former starter Sam Darnold did. [KC - WR JuJu Smith-Schuster amends deal]( Source: ESPN.com - Field Yates The Kansas City Chiefs and WR JuJu Smith-Schuster have agreed to an amended contract, according to sources on Friday, Aug. 26. The amended deal gives Smith-Schuster an increase in per-game roster bonuses, from $30,000 to $60,000, giving him a chance to earn an extra $510,000 during the 2022 season. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] That's good news for Smith-Schuster who should operate as a favorite target for QB Patrick Mahomes. Earlier in the week, Chiefs coach Andy Reid told reporters that Smith-Schuster (knee) has "turned the corner" and should be fine for the regular season. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] The Patriots took a chance on Thornton in the second round of the 2022 NFL draft. Most thought he could be a Day 3 pick, but New England must have coveted his speed. Thornton is expected to miss six to eight weeks depending on how his recovery goes. It's not a great situation without QB Russell Wilson, but Lockett could be a value pick as a WR3/flex option if he falls in your draft. [NE - WR Jakobi Meyers exits with injury](=) Source: NESN - Zack Cox New England Patriots WR Jakobi Meyers (undisclosed) was ruled out during the preseason Week 3 game on Friday, Aug. 26, because of an undisclosed injury. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] It's the Patriots, so who knows what the severity of the injury could be. Meyers has been described as the Patriots' most consistent receiver on the roster. He built good chemistry with QB Mac Jones last year as the Patriots' leading receiver. This year, Meyers has more competition for targets mainly from WR DeVante Parker. He would have to be more of a red-zone threat (only two touchdowns last year) to increase his fantasy value. As it stands, we like Meyers (when healthy) as a WR5 for your fantasy team you can draft around the WR50-60 range. [DAL - Aaron Shampklin injured late Friday]( Source: The Dallas Morning News - Michael Gehlken Dallas Cowboys RB Aaron Shampklin (ankle, foot) suffered an apparent right ankle or foot injury in the final minutes of the team's preseason finale versus the Seattle Seahawks on Friday, Aug. 26. He was unable to put any weight on his right side as he was helped off the field. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Shampklin had flashed a bit during the preseason. Undrafted out of Harvard earlier this year, Shampklin was pushing to be the team's no.3 back behind Ezekiel Elliott and Tony Pollard. With this injury, Rico Dowdle should have that job wrapped up. Reports indicate the Patriots want to use Harris and Stevenson more on third downs this year, and that limits Montgomery if he's healthy and on the game day roster.
