[Dynasty News](=) Our Jeff Tefertiller with a look at the preseason NFL news with an eye toward dynasty leagues. [] INSIDE THIS ISSUE 1. [SF - RB Trey Sermon on the way out?](#1) 2. [NYJ - QB Zach Wilson unlikely for Week 1](#2) 3. [KC - KC backup RBs run well in preseason Week 3](#3) 4. [NYG - PK Ryan Santoso joins Giants](#4) 5. [CAR - Carolina calling about WR Denzel Mims](#5) 6. [PIT - QB Mitchell Trubisky to start preseason finale](#6) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 1. [SF - RB Trey Sermon on the way out?]() Source: NinersWire - Kyle Madson San Francisco 49ers RB Trey Sermon did not make the roster in the latest 53-man roster projection from Kyle Madson of Niners Wire on Friday, Aug. 26. Madson had four running backs make the roster, including Elijah Mitchell, Tyrion Davis-Price, Jeff Wilson Jr., and JaMycal Hasty. 'This was our projection before the final preseason game. Nothing happened in Houston to change that,' said Madson. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Sermon received praise from Kyle Shanahan recently, so it's not clear if Sermon will make the team. Mitchell and Wilson are locks to make the team, and Wilson is the likely starter if Mitchell can't go Week 1, or the replacement if Mitchell aggravates his hamstring issue in the season opener against Chicago. Davis-Price didn't play well this week and entered the game after UDFA Jordan Mason, but most believe he'll safely make the team because of the third-round draft capital invested in him this year. The last spot will come down to Hasty, who can help on pass downs, Sermon, and Mason. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 2. [NYJ - QB Zach Wilson unlikely for Week 1]() Source: New York Post - Brian Costello New York Jets QB Zach Wilson (knee) is unlikely to start in Week 1, which would mean QB Joe Flacco will be under center. Wilson, a week removed from surgery, exercised with the training staff on the side Thursday, Aug. 25. He then watched team drills from a cart about 30 yards behind the play. Head coach Robert Saleh said he likely will wait until the week before the Sept. 11 season opener to decide. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] This is actually good news for the Jets receivers and offense, especially Elijah Moore, who went off for 8-141-1 in Flacco's one start last year against a tough Miami defense. Flacco will face his former Ravens team, which makes their team defense not as good a start in Week 1 as the leadoff hitter in a streaming approach. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 3. [KC - KC backup RBs run well in preseason Week 3](=) Source: ESPN Kansas City Chiefs RBs Isiah Pacheco and Ronald Jones were efficient in the Thursday, Aug. 25, win over the Green Bay Packers. Pacheco rushed for 52 yards on 10 attempts, while Jones accounted for 43 yards on eight carries. Jones caught his lone target for four years, and Pacheco was not targeted. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Pacheco and Jones are probably in contention for one roster spot. Pacheco has had a better summer, but Jones has $750,000 guaranteed on his contract and the team could try to stash the rookie Pacheco on the practice squad. It appears that both are behind Clyde Edwards-Helaire and Jerick McKinnon in the running back rotation, so there's nothing to see here in fantasy leagues at this moment. [NYG - PK Ryan Santoso joins Giants](=) Source: Pro Football Focus - Doug Kyed Free-agent PK Ryan Santoso (Jaguars) signed an undisclosed deal with the New York Giants Friday, Aug. 26. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Graham Gano suffered a concussion in the second preseason game. It's not yet clear if he'll be ready for the season opener against the Titans, but if he's not, then Santoso will get the call. Santoso was recently released by the Jaguars in favor of Michael Badgley, the fourth kicker the Jaguars have signed so far this year. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 5. [CAR - Carolina calling about WR Denzel Mims]() Source: Charlotte Observer - Joseph Person The Carolina Panthers inquired about a potential trade for New York Jets WR Denzel Mims, according to a source Friday, Aug. 26, after Mims recently requested a trade from the Jets. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Mims would probably come in as the fifth receiver in Carolina behind D.J. Moore, Robbie Anderson, Rashard Higgins, and Terrace Marshall, but at least he would be in an organization that seemed to want his services. He's probably not worth carrying in typical dynasty leagues right now. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 6. [PIT - QB Mitchell Trubisky to start preseason finale](=) Source: Pro Football Focus - Ari Meirov Pittsburgh Steelers QB Mitchell Trubisky is expected to start the preseason finale against the Detroit Lions on Sunday, Aug. 28. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] #20 overall pick Kenny Pickett has closed a large gap over the last month, and it's still possible that he'll start Week 1 against Cincinnati, but Trubisky should still be considered the favorite to start, at least to open the season, unless he faceplants this weekend. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- That'll do it for today, Folks. Thanks for reading and thanks for being part of the Footballguys Family.
