We're counting down the days to real NFL regular season games. Hang on. We've got a look today at the shelf life for NFL running backs. Plus, our Matt Waldman talks from the gut. And ADP and some News and Notes including talk of wide receiver Antonio Brown in Dallas. Let's Go. J PS. Sunday Thought. I totally get it that people read my work 99.99% for fantasy football information. No question. But some of you know my faith is important to me. So is loving people. If those ever seem at odds, I lean to choosing love over theology. I [posted this yesterday]( and it seemed to resonate. I love this quote from Barbara Brown Taylor: "The only clear line I draw these days is this: when my religion tries to come between me and my neighbor, I will choose my neighbor. That self-canceling feature of my religion is one of the things I like best about it. Jesus never commanded me to love my religion." Rock on. And love your neighbor. --------------------------------------------------------------- [Footballguys Players Championship]() Sponsored by [The 2022 Footballguys Players Championship]() [Enter Now For Your Chance At The $500,000 Grand Prize]() [The 2022 Footballguys Players Championship]() features a $500,000 grand prize, a $150,000 runner-up prize, and a $4,395,750 fully-guaranteed total prize pool. [SF - Niners content with keeping QB Jimmy Garoppolo?]( Source: The Athletic - Tim Kawakami The San Francisco 49ers aren't ruling out keeping QB Jimmy Garoppolo on the roster if they can't find a trade partner, according to owner Jed York on Thursday, Aug. 18. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] The 49ers wanted to deal Garoppolo, but there has always been a scenario where he stays with the team. In fact, there have been suggestions that Garoppolo could have a package of plays if the team needs him. Trey Lance is their starter, and he's got the upside to be an exciting fantasy quarterback. However, he's raw and has been up and down in practice. Stay tuned. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 2. [DAL - Could WR Antonio Brown Work? Team Not Interested... For Now]() Source: TMZ.com The Dallas Cowboys are not interested in signing free-agent WR [Antonio Brown](=), according to owner Jerry Jones on Thursday, Aug. 18. 'We're good,' Jones said. 'We want to give these young guys a real chance to make this team.' Jones' comments come on the heels of Brown saying 'Tell Jerry Jones to call me!' [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Even though this is likely the smart move, you know this had to be difficult for Jerry Jones to turn down. But never say never. We think at this stage in his career, Brown would likely not be worth the effort needed to keep him focused on the field. On the other hand, Jerry Jones is not getting any younger and there seems to be an increase in the sense of urgency. And sometimes that can make a person reach a bit more than they might normally reach. So right now, it's a "no" for Brown in Dallas. But it wouldn't be shocking if that were to change at some point. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 3. [NE - WR Kendrick Bourne in trouble?](=) Source: NESN - Zack Cox New England Patriots WR Kendrick Bourne was unexpectedly inactive for the team's preseason Week 2 contest on Friday, Aug. 19. Head coach Bill Belichick didn't give a reason why, saying Bourne was simply 'unavailable.' [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Things change pretty quickly around here. Earlier this offseason, there were reporters speculating Bourne could be "Deebo Samuel-like" for the offense. Now, Bourne has been removed from practice a couple of times and missed this latest preseason game. He's in danger of losing his roster spot to be sure. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 4. [NE - Tyquan Thornton injures shoulder](=) Source: Patriots.com New England Patriots WR Tyquan Thornton (shoulder) exited the preseason game against the Carolina Panthers Friday, Aug. 19, with a shoulder injury and will not return. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Thornton was a surprise second-round pick by the Patriots in the 2022 NFL draft. He's a speed guy, but most felt he would be a Day 3 pick because of his raw skill set. The Patriots don't have a great track record of drafting receivers early (see N'Keal Harry, others), so we're not too thrilled about Thornton's fantasy value. He needs to get healthy and work for a more well-rounded game in order to play up to his draft status. [NE - Tyquan Thornton has collarbone injury](=) Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport New England Patriots WR Tyquan Thornton (collarbone) was pulled from the preseason Week 2 contest on Friday, Aug. 19, due to an unspecified collarbone injury, per sources. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] There is currently no timetable for his return but the injury is not season-ending. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 6. [PHI - Two teams interested in WR Jalen Reagor]( Source: Inside the Birds - Geoff Mosher An unidentified NFC team and an unidentified AFC team expressed recent interest in trading for Philadelphia Eagles WR Jalen Reagor, according to Geoff Mosher of InsideTheBirds.com. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Reagor needs a fresh start. The former first-round pick might be a candidate to be released if the team can't find a trade partner. Rumors have suggested one of the teams is the Broncos, but we'll see if something comes together before final cutdowns. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 7. [HOU - WR Nico Collins shines in preseason Week 2](=) Source: NFL.com - Michael Baca Houston Texans WR Nico Collins had a strong showing in preseason Week 2, totaling four catches on six targets for 48 yards and one touchdown. 'Nico's a big target with a lot of talent,' said Texans head coach Lovie Smith after the game on Friday, Aug. 19. 'If we run the ball well, we'll get more one-on-one situations for Nico. As I say, he's got length, he can catch the ball. It's a big play by him there. He's capable of making a lot of plays like that.' [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Collins has a great size/speed combination, and we appreciate him in dynasty formats. The Texans could be playing from behind a lot, and that bodes well for WR Brandin Cooks and Collins too. We like drafting Collins in the WR55-65 range, making him a nice late-round flier. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- That'll do it for today, Folks. Thanks for reading and thanks for being part of the Footballguys Family.
