[NYJ - QB Zach Wilson suffers non-contact knee injury]( Source: Rich Cimini - ESPN New York Jets QB Zach Wilson injured his right knee on the second series of the Jets preseason game Thursday, Aug. 11. Wilson's right knee buckled without contact as he cut left scrambling out of the pocket. He limped to the locker room afterward. Wilson injured the same knee Week 7 of last season, missing four games with a sprained PCL. In his postgame press conference, Head Coach Robert Saleh said Wilson's ACL "was supposed to be intact" according to the Jets medical staff, but they're "going to wait on the MRI tomorrow." [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Hoping for the best for the young quarterback here. Veteran Joe Flacco is Wilson's backup. But if Wilson is sidelined for an extended time, the Jets could show an interest in trading for 49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo. Both Saleh and Offensive Coordinator Mike LaFleur were coaching in San Francisco when Garoppolo led the 49ers to the NFC Title in 2019. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 2. [PIT - George Pickens making big plays]() Source: 247Sports - Bryan DeArdo Pittsburgh Steelers second-round pick WR George Pickens has made big plays and stood out thus far in training camp. Wednesday, Aug. 10, he caught a 30-yard ball and followed it up with a one-handed touchdown grab despite tight coverage. QB Mitchell Trubisky has developed a quick rapport with Pickens and mentioned him as a surprise in the first three weeks. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Most every observer at Steelers camp has gushed about Pickens game. He has pushed his way into the team's outlook at wide receiver, which will add another cut to a passing game pie that wasn't going to be that large to begin with. Pickens dynasty stock is rising, but it could be at the expense of Chase Claypool and Diontae Johnson's redraft projections. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 3. [NYG - RB Saquon Barkley logs five touches](=) Source: ESPN.com New York Giants RB Saquon Barkley rushed four times for 13 yards and caught one pass for eight yards in a 23-21 preseason win over the New England Patriots Thursday, Aug. 11. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Barkley could be in his final season with the Giants. Under new head coach Brian Daboll, several players are in make-or-break seasons with the team. We'll see Barkley mixed in a bit more in the Giants second preseason game. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 4. [BAL - WR James Proche to miss time]() Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter Baltimore Ravens WR James Proche (leg) will miss a week or two after suffering a 'soft-tissue injury' in the first preseason game. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Proche was having a great camp and solidifying his role as a top-three receiver in the offense. UDFA Shemar Bridges has been turning heads. This injury could give him more chances to impress and make the team. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 5. [NE - Pierre Strong leads backfield](=) Source: ESPN.com New England Patriots RB Pierre Strong rushed six times for a team-high 25 yards in a 23-21 preseason loss to the New York Giants Thursday, Aug. 11. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Strong showed some decent pass-blocking chops, but was playing late in the game. He's probably not the answer to replace James White, who retired earlier this month. The Patriots are also looking at Ty Montgomery, J.J. Taylor, and Rhamondre Stevenson as possible replacements for White. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 6. [NE - Bailey Zappe busy against G-Men](=) Source: ESPN.com New England Patriots QB Bailey Zappe completed 19 of his 32 passes for 205 yards, a touchdown and an interception in a 23-21 preseason loss to the New York Giants Thursday, Aug. 11. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Zappe is competing to back up Mac Jones. If he continues to play well in the preseason, the Patriots could make Brian Hoyer available in the trade market. Zappe seemed to be well-prepared and was considered one of the bright spots for the team in the loss, including a go-ahead drive in the fourth quarter. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 7. [NYG - Seven grabs for WR Collin Johnson](=) Source: ESPN.com New York Giants WR Collin Johnson caught seven of his eight targets for a team-high 82 yards in a 23-21 preseason win over the New England Patriots Thursday, Aug. 11. He also lost a fumble. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Johnson is simply trying to make the team at a crowded position on the depth chart. He looked like a promising player after contributing as a rookie when the Jaguars took him in the fifth round in 2020. Johnson spent last year on the Giants roster, but a new regime will be looking at him, Richie James, David Sills, and C.J. Board among others to fill the final spot or two at wide receiver. If Sterling Shepard remains on the PUP list at the beginning of the season after tearing an Achilles last year, that will open up another spot for at least the first six weeks. [NE - WR Kristian Wilkerson shines in loss](=) Source: ESPN.com New England Patriots WR Kristian Wilkerson caught eight of his 12 targets for a game-high 99 yards in a 23-21 preseason loss to the New York Giants Thursday, Aug. 11. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Wilkerson was one of the stars of the night for the Patriots, but he might have trouble making the team unless Nelson Agholor is traded. Wilkerson has spent the last two years bouncing on and off of the team's practice squad, so they know his game well. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 9. [TEN - Malik Willis so-so in preseason debut]( Source: NFL.com - Kevin Patra Tennessee Titans rookie QB Malik Willis was 6-for-11 for 107 yards, no touchdowns, no interceptions and took two sacks in his first preseason game Thursday, Aug. 11. He also rushed five times for 38 yards and a score. 'I mean, you've got a lot to learn from, a lot to look at on film, so I guess it's really cool to get out there again and play football,' Willis said after the game. 'You know, I missed some things, probably, and I just made up for it with my legs and continued to rely on that, but that's what preseason is for. So you just see those things against a live defense, one we hadn't played before. ... You gotta look at the film, check it for what it's worth, and continue to work. I mean, we're in the middle of camp.' [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] All of the good and bad from Willis's scouting profile was on display in this one, but it should give Titans fans a lot of hope about the quarterback position in the future. The third-round pick's arm and mobility were as good as advertised and there's plenty of time to build up his game from the pocket. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 10. [TEN - Treylon Burks catchless in preseason debut]( Source: NFLGSIS Tennessee Titans WR Treylon Burks was held without a catch on one target during his preseason debut Thursday, Aug. 11, against the Baltimore Ravens. The first-round pick played 30 snaps (48%), the second-most among Titans wide receivers. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] The news about Burks has been mixed from day one. We haven't seen any affirmative signs yet that he is poised to break out early in his rookie year, so his ADP might be a bit aspirational. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 11. [LVR - TE Darren Waller dealing with hamstring injury]() Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter Las Vegas Raiders TE Darren Waller (hamstring) has missed the majority of training camp due to a hamstring injury, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter on Friday, Aug. 12. The hamstring injury is not considered serious. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] We want to see Waller get into a preseason game and test the hamstring without incident. This shouldn't affect his ADP too much, but might make choosing between him and George Kittle a little tougher. If Waller does struggle with hamstring issues this year, Foster Moreau will have value in redraft leagues for the second straight year. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 12. [LVR - RB Ameer Abdullah earning 'James White' role in Vegas?](=) Source: SI.com - Albert Breer Las Vegas Raiders RB Ameer Abdullah is carving out a 'James White' role in Josh McDaniel's offense, according to Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated. 'Camp revelation: Journeyman Ameer Abdullah. Raiders have depth at RB. But Abdullah's carving out a real role--the 'James White' spot in McD's O.' [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Kenyan Drake was expected to be the passing down back in the committee, so he is probably the back most hurt by this news. The Raiders would carry 8 million in dead cap if they release Drake, so a trade is more likely if the team deems Drake unnecessary in light of Abdullah's emergence. A team would have to take on Drake's 2.5 million dollar salary if they choose to deal for him.
