He's reportedly involved in this [movie project]() and some folks are speculating this is why he's missing camp. So let me get this straight. Tom Brady, in his last NFL season with a new coach and weapons, is taking off 10 days in August to film a direct-to-streaming movie about Super Bowl wins with his old team? No possible way. We'll likely know the truth soon as this kind of stuff almost always comes out. I'm at a point in my life where literally nothing surprises me anymore, but that seems incredible. Ok. [TB - QB Tom Brady away from team through next week](=) Source: ESPN.com - Jenna Laine Updating a previous report, Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Tom Brady is expected to be away from the team until after the second preseason game against the Tennessee Titans on Aug. 20 as he deals with a personal matter. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Brady is going to be out of action for a couple of weeks dealing with a "personal issue". Brady is the type of seasoned veteran who doesn't need every training camp rep to stay ready, but honestly, this seems shocking. He's a guy who thrives on preparation and with a new coach and weapons, this feels incredible. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 2. [CLE - QB Jimmy Garoppolo could be in play for Cleveland]( Source: The Cleveland Plain Dealer - Mary Kay Cabot San Francisco 49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo is a potential option for the Cleveland Browns if the league ends up significantly increasing Deshaun Watson's six-game suspension, according to sources via Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] The 49ers have Garoppolo as the backup for now, but if the right price was agreed upon they would trade him away. The Browns have Jacoby Brissett to start while Watson is suspended, but they might want an upgrade. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 3. [DEN - RB Melvin Gordon nursing foot issue]( Source: NFL Network - James Palmer Denver Broncos RB Melvin Gordon (foot) sat out for a second straight day of practice Thursday, Aug. 11, but James Palmer of NFL Network was told by a team source that the injury is not serious. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] The injury is not considered serious, and Gordon should be more than fine by the start of the regular season. He should be the backup this year to Javonte Williams. However, Gordon should still get plenty of work as the Broncos will run the ball more than some think (especially early in the season). From a fantasy perspective, Williams is an RB2 with upside and Gordon is an RB3/flex option. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 4. [NE - RB James White retires]() Source: James White - Twitter New England Patriots RB James White announced his retirement from the NFL on Thursday, Aug. 11. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] White was a fourth-round pick for the Patriots out of Wisconsin in the 2014 NFL draft. He was a key contributor on multiple Super Bowl teams for New England, mainly as a receiving threat out of the backfield. He was bothered by a hip injury that cut his 2021 season short, and White decided just to hang up his cleats. Converted wide receiver Ty Montgomery should serve as the pass-catching option and no.3 back behind Damien Harris and Rhamondre Stevenson. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 5. [CHI - N'Keal Harry out eight weeks]() Source: NFL Network - Mike Garafolo Updating previous reports, Chicago Bears WR N'Keal Harry (ankle) will undergo tightrope surgery Thursday, Aug. 11, and miss about eight weeks. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] It's disappointing news for the Bears after trading for Harry earlier this offseason. Harry needs a fresh start, but now he'll have to wait a couple of more months to get on the field. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 6. [TB - WR Russell Gage injury update]( Source: PewterReport.com - J.C. Allen Updating a previous report, Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Russell Gage Jr. (hamstring) is day-to-day with a 'tweaked hamstring,' according to head coach Todd Bowles, who hinted that the injury is not overly serious and that Gage is expected to be ready for Week 1. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Gage is battling with Julio Jones to be the no.3 option for the Buccaneers this year. Mike Evans and Chris Godwin (when healthy) are the top options, and Gage has some 'what the heck' flex appeal if he can stay healthy and work into a role. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 7. [CAR - Top two QBs to play in preseason game]( Source: PanthersWire - Anthony Rizzuti Carolina Panthers QB Baker Mayfield and QB Sam Darnold will both receive playing time during the first preseason game, according to head coach Matt Rhule. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] The starting quarterback has not yet been named in Carolina, but most people can expect Mayfield to get the nod. If/when Mayfield is announced as the starter, Darnold is unlikely to be dealt. At least, that's what the Panthers keep insisting on. Neither one is a great option for fantasy purposes. [CAR - Carolina not afraid of CMC injury history](=) Source: The Associated Press - Steve Reed Carolina Panthers RB Christian McCaffrey may not see any limitations to his workload as head coach Matt Rhule said the team won't focus on his injury history, according to Steve Reed of The Associated Press. 'I'm not spending my time worrying about, 'hey, will Christian get hurt?'' Rhule said. 'We are thinking about Christian in one way only -- and that's attack.' [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] The Panthers (or any team) can't be too worried because injuries can happen at any time. The injury bug sure does like McCaffrey over the last couple of seasons, and he's missed plenty of time because of that. It sounds like so long as he is healthy, McCaffrey will continue to get a sizable workload. Fantasy football is all about windows. If you get McCaffrey in the right window it could be fantastic as per usual, even if it's only for a limited time. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 9. [DET - Jameson Williams won't play Week 1](=) Source: ESPN.com - Jeremy Fowler Detroit Lions WR Jameson Williams (knee) isn't expected to be ready for the Week 1 regular-season opener, according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] That's good news for the young receiver. He's coming back from the knee injury suffered in the National Championship Game. Williams may not be 100 percent, but he's got big play ability and is dangerous with the ball in his hands. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 10. [KC - RB Ronald Jones taking third-team reps]( Source: ArrowheadPride.com - Pete Sweeney Kansas City Chiefs RB Ronald Jones was taking reps with the third-team offense Thursday, Aug. 11. Meanwhile, Chiefs RBs Clyde Edwards-Helaire, Jerick McKinnon, and rookie Isiah Pacheco all rotated in with the first-team offense. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Pacheco has been the darling of Chiefs camp. The rookie was a late-round pick out of Rutgers, and he's got blazing speed in combination with quick moves and some power to his game. We'll see if Jones can climb his way up the depth chart as the preseason rolls on. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 11. [CHI - RB David Montgomery to miss a few days]() Source: The Athletic - Kevin Fishbain Chicago Bears RB David Montgomery (undisclosed) is dealing with an undisclosed injury, but head coach Matt Eberflus told reporters Thursday, Aug. 11, that Montgomery is 'going to be fine' and 'be back pretty fast.' [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Montgomery should be good to go for the start of the regular season. He's a good starter, and the Bears have a backup in Khalil Herbert who could be just as good. From a fantasy perspective, we like Montgomery around the RB17-25 range. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 12. [MIN - RB Alexander Mattison not sticking around?]( Source: St. Paul Pioneer Press - Chris Tomasson Minnesota Vikings RB Alexander Mattison said he is 'not aware' of any contract extension talks, and Chris Tomasson of the St. Paul Pioneer Press does not expect the Vikings to extend Mattison. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Mattison could be a starting option for many teams around the league, he's just stuck behind superstar Dalvin Cook in Minnesota. He should move on in free agency to get a larger opportunity somewhere else in 2023. That means the Vikings could turn to Kene Nwangwu or Ty Chandler as primary backup options next offseason. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 13. [PIT - QB Mitchell Trubisky to start preseason opener]() Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter Pittsburgh Steelers QB Mitchell Trubisky will start the preseason opener against the Seattle Seahawks on Saturday, Aug. 13. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] No surprise here. Trubisky is the starter, and he should start most games for the Steelers this year. 2022 first-round pick Kenny Pickett is seen as the potential franchise quarterback of the future, but he's running third-string at the moment. If/when the Steelers are out of the playoff hunt, we could see the rookie take over to gain valuable experience. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 14. [BUF - QB Josh Allen won't play in first preseason game](=) Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport Buffalo Bills QB Josh Allen won't play in the first preseason game, according to head coach Sean McDermott. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Most starters don't play in the preseason opener if they've got experience within the offense. Allen just needs to stay fresh for the regular season and get this Bills team to a Super Bowl - and then win it all. They're built to make a deep postseason run once again in 2022. Allen should play against the Broncos in the second preseason game. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- That'll do it for today, Folks.
