[CLE - QB Deshaun Watson ruling may come this week]() Source: ProFootballTalk.com - Mike Florio Cleveland Browns QB Deshaun Watson could find out his fate this week and the suspension ruling could bar him from the preseason opener if it comes before then, according to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk on Wednesday, Aug. 10. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said the league is seeking tougher punishment for Watson because his "multiple violations" were "egregious" and "predatory behavior." Judge Sue L. Robinson did rule that Watson should be suspended six games in 2022, but the league has appealed that ruling. We'll know more about how long Watson will miss this year in the near future. The rumblings are the league is looking for a year-long suspension. Something more around an 8-10 game suspension could be coming. Stay tuned. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 2. [DEN - RB Melvin Gordon has foot injury](=) Source: 9News.com - Mike Klis Denver Broncos RB Melvin Gordon (foot) is dealing with an unspecified foot injury, per head coach Nathaniel Hackett, which forced him to miss practice on Wednesday, Aug. 10. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Gordon is a veteran player, so the team is going to be cautious with him. Javonte Williams is the starter, but Gordon has proven in training camp that he's not just going to be a backup with limited touches. In fact, that 70-30 split our own Cecil Lammey expects (favoring Williams) has looked more like 60-40 in camp. This injury to Gordon is considered minor, and he should be ready to go by Week 1 of the regular season. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 3. [TB - WR Russell Gage exits with injury](=) Source: ESPN.com - Jenna Laine Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Russell Gage (leg) left practice early on Wednesday, Aug. 10, due to an unspecified leg injury. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] We'll see how long this injury keeps Gage out of action. Buccaneers HC Todd Bowles said the defense has been unable to cover Russell Gage early in training camp. Before the team signed Julio Jones, we were really excited about the sleeper potential of a guy like Gage. Now, he's competing with Jones for the no.3 job on the Buccaneers' depth chart behind Mike Evans and Chris Godwin. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 4. [DEN - Shoulder issue for WR Courtland Sutton](=) Source: NFL.com Denver Broncos WR Courtland Sutton (shoulder) is currently dealing with a shoulder injury. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Sutton has struggled in practice against CB Pat Surtain. When it's CB Ron Darby covering him, Sutton can look like the Broncos version of Randy Moss. However, his high-wire act as a receiver means he'll come crashing down hard at times. The Broncos already lost WR Tim Patrick (knee) for the season to an ACL injury. They'll monitor Sutton closely as he deals with this minor shoulder problem. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 5. [CIN - Ja'Marr Chase to be used all over field]( Source: Bengals.com - Geoff Hobson Cincinnati Bengals WR Ja'Marr Chase will be used all over the field like San Francisco 49ers WR Deebo Samuel was last season. 'He's going to be all over the field,' said wide receivers coach Troy Walters, who said they could Deebo him and put him in the backfield at times. 'We're going to use him as many ways as we can. He's a quick learner ... That's what great players want to do. They want to play everywhere.' [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Moving Chase all over the field is going to be a problem for opposing defenses. The Bengals will find ways to get him open, and hopefully, there are more targets for the budding superstar. Chase finished fourth in yards and third in touchdowns despite placing 20th in targets as a rookie in 2021. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 6. [CIN - QB Joe Burrow still day-to-day](=) Source: Bengals.com - Geoff Hobson Cincinnati Bengals QB Joe Burrow (appendix) remains day-to-day, head coach Zac Taylor said on Wednesday, Aug. 10. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] The Bengals are in no rush to get Burrow out there as he recovers from getting his appendix removed. Burrow was able to do some light throwing on the side during practice Monday. We doubt we see much of Burrow in the preseason. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 7. [PIT - WR Chase Claypool back at practice]( Source: ESPN - Brooke Pryor Pittsburgh Steelers WR Chase Claypool (shoulder) returned to practice on Monday, Aug. 8. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Claypool missed about a week of practice with the shoulder injury which Mike Tomlin called a 'day-to-day' injury. The outcomes for Claypool this season vary greatly. He has upside, but with a new quarterback (most likely Mitchell Trubisky most of the season) we'll see if Claypool can bounce back from a disappointing 2021 season. We like drafting Claypool in the WR40-50 range. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 8. [IND - WR Parris Campbell returns to practice]( Source: The Indianapolis Star - Joel A. Erickson Indianapolis Colts WR Parris Campbell (hamstring) returned to practice on Wednesday, Aug. 10. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] That didn't take long. Campbell is a speed receiver who can stretch the field for QB Matt Ryan. He was out of action on Monday and Tuesday due to hamstring tightness. We're certain the team will monitor him closely upon his return. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 9. [IND - QB Matt Ryan to play in preseason opener]() Source: NFL Network - Cameron Wolfe Indianapolis Colts QB Matt Ryan will play in the preseason opener on Saturday, Aug. 13, head coach Frank Reich revealed on Wednesday, Aug. 10. Ryan is expected to play up to a full quarter. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] It's an interesting move for the Colts. Most starting quarterbacks won't play in the preseason opener. Ryan is going to get out there as he gets further used to his teammates. The Colts should run the heck out of the ball this year, so Ryan is mostly there to be a game manager. That means Fantasy GMs should look at him as a QB2 in 2022. We like getting Ryan around the QB17-23 range. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 10. [JAX - Jags to play starters in preseason game Friday]() Source: NFL Network - Cameron Wolfe The Jacksonville Jaguars will play their starters, including QB Trevor Lawrence and RB Travis Etienne, for a couple of series in the preseason opener on Friday, Aug. 12, head coach Doug Pederson said on Wednesday, Aug. 10. However, RB James Robinson (Achilles) and WR Laviska Shenault Jr. (hamstring) will not play. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] The Jaguars starters like Lawrence and Etienne need all the reps they can get. We're excited to see if Lawrence can continue progressing as a pro quarterback after last year just flashing in one game (the season finale). We're also excited to see Etienne as the 2021 first-round pick missed his entire rookie season due to injury. These two are potential cornerstone players for the Jaguars. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 11. [SF - QB Trey Lance might play in preseason opener](=) Source: 49ers Wire - Kyle Madson San Francisco 49ers QB Trey Lance might play in the preseason opener, but head coach Kyle Shanahan is still thinking about it. 'I don't know. I haven't totally thought about it yet,' Shanahan said on Tuesday, Aug. 9. 'Right now, my gut is exactly what I said. That could change after these two practices and what we see out there, but I'd definitely like to get him out there this week.' [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Lance needs all the work he can get. A top-3 pick in the 2021 NFL draft, Lance spent most of his rookie season learning the system on the bench behind Jimmy Garoppolo. Now, the team has turned over the reins of the offense to the second-year pro. Lance is talented but needs reps, so the team might play in the preseason opener while most starting quarterbacks don't play in that game. [DEN - Denver signs pair of RBs](=) Source: DenverBroncos.com - Aric DiLalla Free-agent RBs Stevie Scott and JaQuan Hardy (Cowboys) signed undisclosed contracts with the Denver Broncos on Wednesday, Aug. 10. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Melvin Gordon is dealing with a minor foot injury and UDFA rookie Tyreik McAllister was also injured in camp this week. Scott played a preseason game with the Broncos last year but was released after just one week. Hardy spent time with the Cowboys in 2021, and he's a big-bodied back hoping to impress enough to make the practice squad. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 13. [LVR - Las Vegas works out 3 RBs]() Source: Pro Football Network - Aaron Wilson Free-agent RBs LeVante Bellamy, Quay Holmes and Brenden Knox worked out for the Las Vegas Raiders on Tuesday, Aug. 9. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] The Raiders are looking to see what's out there. This seems like a move to update their emergency list. If they need to, the Raiders could go back and sign any one of these backs. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 14. [LAR - Brandon Powell has knee issue]() Source: The Athletic - Jourdan Rodrigue Los Angeles Rams WR Brandon Powell (knee) is dealing with an unspecified knee injury, head coach Sean McVay said on Wednesday, Aug. 10. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] The team is waiting for test results but the injury doesn't appear to be serious. He's a wide receiver who mostly contributes on special teams. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 15. [PHI - Philly signing DeAndre Torrey](=) Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport Free-agent RB DeAndre Torrey is signing an undisclosed contract with the Philadelphia Eagles, according to a source on Wednesday, Aug. 10. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] The North Texas back has some speed to his game, and he's got a nose for the end zone. The Eagles had to make a move at the position with Boston Scott and Kenneth Gainwell dealing with injuries. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 16. [CAR - TE Ian Thomas out a week or two]( Source: Panthers.com - Augusta Stone Updating a previous report, Carolina Panthers TE Ian Thomas (ribs) is expected to miss a week or two due to an unspecified rib injury, according to head coach Matt Rhule on Wednesday, Aug. 10. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Tommy Tremble sits atop the depth chart for the Panthers. Thomas was competing to work into the mix as a no.2 tight end. Without Thomas for a week or two, Stephen Sullivan gets a larger opportunity. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 17. [PHI - WR DeVonta Smith still sidelined](=) Source: NFL.com Philadelphia Eagles WR DeVonta Smith (groin) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Aug. 10, and is still considered day-to-day. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Smith is going to stretch the field for the Eagles this year. With the trade for WR A.J. Brown, the Eagles should have more of a commitment to the passing game than they did last season. The team will ease Smith back into action when he's ready, so don't expect to see much from the second-year speedster in the preseason. If healthy, Smith could push for 1,000 yards receiving this year. We like him going off the board around WR30-40. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 18. [NYJ - QB Zach Wilson to see time Friday](=) Source: NFLCommunications.com New York Jets QB Zach Wilson will be on the field for a series or two during the team's first preseason game Friday, Aug. 10, according to head coach Robert Saleh. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Wilson is young and needs as much time as he can get before the start of the regular season. We'll see him in the team's preseason opener, and then we'll see him in the second game for about a half. Wilson, like most starting quarterbacks, is unlikely to play in the preseason finale. Even though he's in year two, it's shaping up like a make-or-break season for Wilson. We'll see if he can surprise some with better play in his sophomore season. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 19. [CLE - TE Harrison Bryant set for big role?]() Source: ESPN.com - Jeremy Fowler Cleveland Browns TE Harrison Bryant 'will have a pivotal role' in the team's offense in 2022, according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler on Wednesday, Aug. 10. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Bryant is listed as no.2 on the depth chart behind David Njoku. However, Bryant is a player capable of making plays near pay dirt. In a limited role over his first two pro seasons, Bryant has six receiving touchdowns. We'll see if that 'pivotal' role develops in the red zone. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 20. [GB - RB Dexter Williams signs in Green Bay]() Source: Packers.com - Mike Spofford Free-agent RB Dexter Williams (USFL) signed an undisclosed contract with the Green Bay Packers on Wednesday, Aug. 10. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Williams was a sixth-round pick out of Notre Dame for the Packers back in 2019. He's bounced around the league since originally being released by the Packers in 2020, and Williams signed with the Philadelphia Stars of the USFL earlier this year. He knows the system, and Williams is going to be hard-pressed to make the final roster. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 21. [GB - WR Randall Cobb sitting out Wednesday](=) Source: NFL.com Green Bay Packers WR Randall Cobb (foot) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Aug. 10, because of a foot injury. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] No worries here. Cobb is getting some rest, and there's no need to rush such an experienced player back into action. He's likely a no.4 option for his buddy QB Aaron Rodgers in 2022, so Cobb's fantasy value isn't that great at this point in his career. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 22. [HOU - RB Darius Anderson suffers serious injury]() Source: Pro Football Network - Aaron Wilson Houston Texans RB Darius Anderson (knee) suffered a season-ending knee injury during practice Tuesday, Aug. 9, and had to undergo immediate surgery, according to a source. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Anderson was going to be hard-pressed to make the final roster for the Texans, but he could've been an option on the practice squad. The Texans have Marlon Mack as their lead back, and veteran Rex Burkhead gives them a change-of-pace option behind him. We also like rookie RB Dameon Pierce, and he's competing to work himself into the mix this season.
