[] 1. [IND - QB Matt Ryan pushing the tempo]() Source: ESPN.com - Stephen Holder Indianapolis Colts QB Matt Ryan has focused on pushing a fast-paced tempo in practice, and the sessions have ended 10 minutes early each day. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Ryan is all about timing and precision in his game. He's going to be demanding for the Colts receivers, but that's a good thing. They should run the ball early and often with RB Jonathan Taylor, but Ryan can use tempo as a weapon when the team has to pass the ball. From a fantasy perspective, we see him in the QB15-22 range. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 2. [ARI - QB Kyler Murray has clause removed](=) Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport Arizona Cardinals QB Kyler Murray had the clause requiring independent study hours removed from his contract Wednesday, July 27, according to a source. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Things change quickly around here. On Thursday, Murray defended his film study and game preparation after the Cardinals included an "independent study" clause in his contract extension. That, along with the reactions to the clause, caused the Cardinals to reconsider. They won't monitor Murray's study habits and instead will trust him to get the job done. The whole "independent study" clause was strange and embarrassing. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 3. [BAL - QB Lamar Jackson bulked up]() Source: ESPN.com - Jamison Hensley Baltimore Ravens QB Lamar Jackson added lean mass in the offseason, and he has been throwing tighter spirals with more velocity in camp. He was 12-for-17 in team drills with a 55-yard touchdown pass. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] The news about Jackson's added bulk has been out there before. The added strength should help him take the punishment of an NFL season. Reports from Ravens camp have indicated Jackson is flourishing as a passer. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 4. [CAR - QB Baker Mayfield struggles]() Source: ESPN.com - David Newton Carolina Panthers QB Baker Mayfield struggled in 7-on-7 drills Thursday, July 28, as two of his first three passes should have been intercepted. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] That sounds about right. Mayfield is with a new team, and he's learning a new system...that's not really inspiring. He's competing with QB Sam Darnold for the starting job, and we'll see if he can clean things up as camp goes on. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 5. [PIT - Kenny Pickett has early struggles]() Source: ESPN - Brooke Pryor Pittsburgh Steelers QB Kenny Pickett has thrown interceptions in the first two days of practice this week, and he has been working with the third-stringers. Head coach Mike Tomlin insists he's not evaluating the quarterbacks on a per-throw basis. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Pickett is unlikely to start this season until the Steelers are out of the playoff hunt. At that time, they could take a look at him and build for the future. Now, Pickett is rough around the edges and needs a ton of work - something he's not going to get too much of working with the third team. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 6. [GB - Romeo Doubs impressing]() Source: ESPN.com - Rob Demovsky Green Bay Packers fourth-round pick WR Romeo Doubs stood out in the first two days of practice with a couple of great grabs. The first day, he caught an 8-yard fade touchdown and made a 50-50 ball look like a 90-10 ball. The next day, he caught a drag route over the middle and held onto it after an accidental hard collision with a safety. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Doubs has some highlight-reel ability to his skill set. The rookie from Nevada has a nice size/athleticism combination, and he's competing for one of the final spots on the roster at the wide receiver position. We love him in dynasty formats, but he's too buried on the depth chart for redraft Fantasy GMs to consider him right now. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 7. [MIN - TE Irv Smith feeling faster]() Source: Minneapolis Star Tribune - Andrew Krammer Minnesota Vikings TE Irv Smith (knee) said he feels quicker and leaner following his recovery from knee surgery. 'I feel like I got faster, honestly, through this process,' Smith said. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Smith was ready for a breakout season in 2021, but his knee injury cost him the entire season. In three pro seasons, Smith has only played in 26 games but if he's healthy he's a weapon. In the new Vikings offense under HC Kevin O'Connell, Smith could be a priority for targets behind WRs Justin Jefferson and Adam Thielen. We like him in the 12-15 range for the tight end position, but the upside is there for him to finish in the top 12 at the end of the season. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 8. [DET - DJ Chark showing versatility](=) Source: DetroitLions.com - Tim Twentyman Detroit Lions WR DJ Chark Jr. has been lining up in multiple spots during training camp. 'I like the challenge of running different routes and being in different spots and not being stuck in one spot for too long of a period,' Chark said. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Chark is looking for a bounce-back year with his new team. Last year with the Jaguars, ankle surgery cost Chark most of the 2021 season. If healthy, Chark is a speed receiver who can blow by defenders with ease. It's wise for the Lions to move that kind of threat around the formation. Amon-Ra St. Brown and first-round WR Jameson Williams are at the top of the depth chart with Chark competing as the no.3 receiver. [] 9. [WAS - Jahan Dotson continues to impress]() Source: ESPN.com - John Keim Washington Commanders WR Jahan Dotson has carried the momentum of a strong spring into training camp, according to ESPN's John Keim. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Dotson's game is all about speed, speed, and more speed. The rookie from Penn State should be able to take the top off the defense early and often. If QB Carson Wentz gets time to find him, Dotson could be a great deep target for the Commanders offense. Dotson will work as the no.2 receiver opposite of Terry McLaurin. We like him in the 50-60 range this year, and Dotson has some deep flex appeal. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 10. [DET - TE Devin Funchess sitting Friday](=) Source: Detroit Free Press - Dave Birkett Detroit Lions TE Devin Funchess (groin) will not practice Friday, July 29, due to a groin injury. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] It's not great news for a veteran player on the bubble who is learning a new position. Funchess signed with the Lions in June, and he's made the move from big-bodied wide receiver to tight end. If healthy, Funchess will compete with guys like Brock Wright and James Mitchell for the no.2 spot on the depth chart behind starter T.J. Hockenson. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 11. [MIN - WR K.J. Osborn back on the field]() Source: Minneapolis Star Tribune - Andrew Krammer Minnesota Vikings WR K.J. Osborn (undisclosed) is participating in training camp after being sidelined for spring practices. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] The Vikings offense could be one of the most high-powered in the league, and that makes Osborn a potential sleeper for Fantasy GMs in deeper formats. Osborn is the no.3 target behind Justin Jefferson and Adam Thielen, and he certainly has deep flex appeal in PPR formats. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 12. [GB - WR Sammy Watkins to come off NFI list]() Source: PackersWire - Zach Kruse Green Bay Packers WR Sammy Watkins (hamstring) is expected to be removed from the NFI list Friday, July 29. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Opinions on Watkins and his fantasy potential are all over the place. Some think he can be the best wide receiver for the Packers, while others think he will disappoint again due to injury. Fantasy football is all about finding 'windows' and if you hit the right window with Watkins, in that high-powered offense, it could pay off for at least a couple of weeks. We like him as a late-round flier or keep him on your waiver wire speed dial if he goes undrafted in more shallow leagues. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 13. [NE - WR DeVante Parker making early statement]() Source: ESPN.com - Mike Reiss New England Patriots WR DeVante Parker has made some strong early impressions at training camp, in the opinion of ESPN's Mike Reiss. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Parker doesn't have much talent around him in the wide receiver room for the Patriots. We'll see what kind of connection he has with QB Mac Jones in training camp and the preseason. So far, early indications are positive. Parker is a WR5/WR6/bench stash this season from a fantasy perspective. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 14. [PIT - WR Chase Claypool exits practice early Friday]() Source: 93.7 The Fan - Jeff Hathhorn Pittsburgh Steelers WR Chase Claypool (arm) left practice after suffering an injury to his right arm Friday, July 29. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] No word on the severity just yet. As training camp and the preseason continues, we're anxious to see what QB Mitchell Trubisky looks like as the starter. We could see him getting over 100 targets again, but his fantasy value is more likely in the 25-35 range at the wide receiver position. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 15. [NO - TE Taysom Hill out indefinitely with rib injury](=) Source: The Athletic - Jeff Duncan New Orleans Saints TE Taysom Hill (ribs) suffered a rib injury during practice Thursday, July 28, and is considered to be out indefinitely. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Hill is no longer a quarterback or gadget quarterback, and he's trying to impress at the tight end position. Adam Trautman is the starter for the Saints, and behind him guys like Nick Vannett and Juwan Johnson will compete to establish a pecking order.
