[NYG - WR Sterling Shepard, two others begin camp on PUP](#16) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 1. [TB - WR Julio Jones to Tampa - We're still bullish on Russell Gage]() Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter Free-agent WR Julio Jones (Titans) reportedly agreed to terms on a one-year contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Tuesday, July 26. Financial terms of the deal were not immediately disclosed. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Our Sigmund Bloom's quick take on this: "This offense supported 3 top 13 WRs in PPR on a points per game basis last year. I wouldn't bail on Russell Gage. Jones didn't stay healthy for long last year, so he'll likely be on a pitch count. This was about the depth after the top 3 and how the WR group ended up in the playoffs last year, not any misgivings about Gage, who was recruited by Brady." [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 2. [CIN - QB Joe Burrow having appendix removed](=) Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport Cincinnati Bengals QB Joe Burrow (appendix) is having surgery to remove his appendix, according to a source Tuesday, July 26. He's expected to make a quick return. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Burrow is going to miss some practice time as he recovers. He will be back soon, and Burrow is a fantasy darling in 2022 - for good reason. Burrow is a QB1 for Fantasy GMs, and he could end the year as a top-7 fantasy quarterback. It's wise to project him for 35 or more touchdown passes this year. The sky is the limit for the Bengals passing game if Burrow is better protected. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 3. [ARI - QB Kyler Murray's deal has odd mandate](=) Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport Updating previous reports, Arizona Cardinals QB Kyler Murray's contract includes a clause that he must study 4 hours independently per week, excluding bye weeks. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Make sure to do your homework! That's basically what Murray's contract has written into it. There's a reason why Murray's deal didn't come with a fully guaranteed $230.5 million. Instead, Murray has $160 million in guarantees and a clause that makes sure he gets extra work in (just four hours each week) on his time. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 4. [SF - QB Trey Lance the unquestioned starting QB now](=) Source: Bay Area News Group - Cam Inman San Francisco 49ers QB Trey Lance was given a clear endorsement as the team's starting quarterback by head coach Kyle Shanahan on Tuesday, July 26.'This is Trey's team. That's nothing against Jimmy (Garoppolo). We made that decision a year ago. We're not going to mess around with that anymore. Jimmy understands that fully. He's a big guy. Nothing against him. It's a business decision,' Shanahan told reporters Tuesday. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Lance is the guy, and Garoppolo is the backup...for now. Garoppolo could get traded before the start of the regular season. The 49ers might also keep him around for one more season as veteran insurance behind Lance. The future is hazy, but one thing is clear; Lance begins the season as the starter. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 5. [SEA - RB Chris Carson set to retire](=) Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport Seattle Seahawks RB Chris Carson (neck) is expected to retire from the NFL due to the neck injury he suffered last season, according to sources. According to NFL Media's Ian Rapoport, Seattle will officially release him with a failed physical designation. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Neck injuries are nothing to mess around with. Carson has been a hard-charging running back for the Seahawks since he came into the league as a seventh-round pick in the 2017 NFL draft. Rashaad Penny and Kenneth Walker will lead the way in the Seahawks backfield in 2022. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 6. [BAL - RB Gus Edwards in doubt for opener?](=) Source: The Athletic - Jeff Zrebiec Baltimore Ravens RB Gus Edwards (knee) is 'in question' for Week 1 against the New York Jets, according to head coach John Harbaugh. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] The Ravens have backfield concerns with Edwards and J.K. Dobbins both returning from knee injuries that cost them the entire 2021 season. While Dobbins is trending towards being available in Week 1, Edwards may not be ready at that time. They do have Mike Davis to carry a workload if Edwards (and Dobbins) needs to miss time. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 7. [NO - RB Jordan Howard to work out]( Source: WWL-TV - Brooke Kirchhofer Free-agent RB Jordan Howard (Eagles) is scheduled to work out for the New Orleans Saints Tuesday, July 26, according to a source. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] The Saints have a talented backfield, but they are looking to see if they can improve the room. Howard is limited in what he can do, but the big veteran back can live between the tackles and work as a goal-line specialist if signed by any team. Most thought he could end up back with the Eagles...again...this season. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 8. [IND - WR John Hurst signing with Indy](=) Source: Pro Football Focus - Doug Kyed Free-agent WR John Hurst (Buccaneers) is signing a deal with the Indianapolis Colts, according to a source Tuesday, July 26. Financial terms of the deal were not immediately disclosed. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] The Colts want to take a longer look at Hurst as a developmental player. Undrafted out of West Georgia in 2021, Hurst signed with the Buccaneers and made their practice squad although he spent his rookie season on Injured Reserve. Hurst was a superstar in college at West Georgia, being named to the All-Decade team for the Wolves. He had 77 catches for 1,242 yards and 12 touchdowns during his collegiate career. Hurst is exactly the type of player we monitor in crazy deep dynasty formats. [GB - WR Osirus Mitchell to join Packers]() Source: Pro Football Network - Aaron Wilson Free-agent WR Osirus Mitchell (Cowboys) will be signing a one-year contract with the Green Bay Packers Tuesday, July 26, according to a source. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Undrafted out of Mississippi State in 2021, Mitchell spent most of that season on the Cowboys practice squad. In 2022, Mitchell was a fifteenth-round pick of the Birmingham Stallions in the USFL draft. Mitchell caught 23 passes for 333 yards and three touchdowns for the Stallions this year. He's a big target with a large wingspan, and we'll continue to monitor Mitchell but only in super deep dynasty formats. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 10. [LAC - Targets hard to find beyond Big Three]( Source: CBSSports.com - Chris Towers Los Angeles Chargers RB Austin Ekeler, WR Keenan Allen and WR [Mike Williams](=) will command the bulk of the targets in the offense, and it will be tough for players like TE Gerald Everett, WR Josh Palmer and RB Isaiah Spiller to find consistent looks. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Fantasy GMs should stock up on Chargers players. Get their 'Big 3' if you can, but have proper expectations for the players behind them. Spiller could do a lot as a featured back if Ekeler had to miss time. Right now, the rookie is just a backup who may not get many touches. Palmer and Everett can both make plays at their respective positions. However, if Williams and Allen stay healthy (sometimes a question for both) Palmer and Everett may struggle to find targets. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 11. [MIA - WR Mohamed Sanu catches on with Miami]() Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter Free-agent WR Mohamed Sanu (49ers) reportedly agreed to terms on an undisclosed contract with the Miami Dolphins on Tuesday, July 26. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Sanu knows the offense that Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel is implementing, and he's there to be veteran depth. He won't be asked to do much as a receiver if everyone stays healthy, but Sanu brings experience and blocking ability to the position. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 12. [PIT - RB Jeremy McNichols signs with Steelers](=) Source: Steelers.com Free-agent RB Jeremy McNichols (Falcons) signed a one-year deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers, the team announced Tuesday, July 26. Financial terms of the deal were not immediately disclosed. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] McNichols has bounced around the league to a few different teams, and he can contribute as a runner, receiver out of the backfield, and on special teams. The Steelers are looking for more bodies at the position after releasing Trey Edmunds just a couple of days ago. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 13. [IND - WR T.Y. Hilton still a possibility for Colts]( Source: 1070 The Fan - Kevin Bowen Free-agent WR T.Y. Hilton (Colts) is still in the mix to potentially sign a deal with the Indianapolis Colts, according to general manager Chris Ballard on Tuesday, July 26. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] No surprise here. Hilton is still out there available to sign with any team, but most expect him to come back to the Colts at some time. If signed, Hilton could still be a deep threat for the Colts. His fantasy value would be low this season, no matter where the veteran receiver signs. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 14. [MIN - No limitations for TE Irv Smith to begin camp](=) Source: Minneapolis Star Tribune - Andrew Krammer Minnesota Vikings TE Irv Smith (knee) will be a 'full-go' for training camp, according to head coach Kevin O'Connell. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] A preseason knee injury in 2021 knocked Smith out of action for the season. Now, he's back and ready to get back to making plays for the Vikings. In fact, Smith could be the no.3 target in the passing game behind WRs Justin Jefferson and Adam Thielen. The talent is there, but the injury concerns are also there with Smith. We like him in the TE14 range. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 15. [NO - RB Malcolm Brown gets deal done with New Orleans](=) Source: The Times-Picayune - Jeff Duncan Free-agent RB Malcolm Brown (Dolphins) signed an undisclosed contract with the New Orleans Saints on Tuesday, July 26. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] The Saints had been looking for backfield help, and that comes in the form of Brown. He's a well-built veteran back who can grind it down between the tackles, and Brown doesn't waste much motion as a runner. Brown will compete with undrafted rookie Abram Smith (a Matt Waldman favorite) and Tony Jones for a spot on the depth chart behind Alvin Kamara and Mark Ingram. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 16. [NYG - WR Sterling Shepard, two others begin camp on PUP]() Source: ProFootballTalk.com - Josh Alper New York Giants WR Sterling Shepard (Achilles), OL Nick Gates (leg) and OL Matt Peart (knee) were placed on the Active/Physically Unable to Perform list Tuesday, July 26. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Shepard has resumed jogging for around two months. He's not ready to go to training camp yet, but he could come off PUP anytime. At this time, it doesn't seem like Shepard will miss time in the regular season. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- That'll do it for today, Folks.
