[NE - QB Jones Confident Entering Year 2](#5) 6. [NO - Darius Victor to work out for Saints](#6) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 1. [DEN - TE Albert Okwuegbunam could open as TE1](=) Source: 9News.com - Mike Klis Denver Broncos TE Albert Okwuegbunam could open the season as the No. 1 tight end, and TE Greg Dulcich could take over by midseason. TE Eric Tomlinson will also mix in as the blocking tight end. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] That sounds about right. Dulcich is an exciting rookie who can flat-out fly. Okwuegbunam is no slouch either, and he's arguably a slightly better blocker. The team is going to have to use a combination of tight ends to do what they want to on offense. However, QB Russell Wilson could be targeting a guy like Okwuegbunam in the red zone because of his size. Consider Okwuegbunam more of a late-round/bench tight end with upside from a fantasy perspective. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 2. [SF - RB Wilson the Top Backup?](=) Source: Matt Barrows - The Athletic Matt Barrows, from The Athletic, reports San Francisco 49ers RB Jeff Wilson would be the primary backup to Elijah Mitchell 'if the season began today.' [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] The 49ers backfield is quite fantasy relevant, so making sure to know which player to attach to Mitchell is wise...if you have the space on your bench. Wilson is a capable reserve who can work well as a runner or receiver out of the backfield. We'll see if he can hold off second-year pro Trey Sermon and rookie Tyrion-Davis Price in training camp for the no.2 job. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 3. [NYJ - Breece Hall under contract]( Source: ESPN.com - Rich Cimini Updating previous reports, second-round draft choice RB Breece Hall (Iowa State) signed a four-year contract worth $9 million - including a $3.7 million signing bonus - with the New York Jets on Tuesday, July 19. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Hall was one of the better backs in this draft class, and the Jets were happy to select him in the second round of the 2022 NFL draft. He's set to be the lead back for the Jets when it comes to their ground game. However, second-year pro Michael Carter is a fine runner and a dangerous receiver out of the backfield. That means we'll see an RBBC featuring Hall and Carter this season. With the Jets likely playing from behind often, Carter has more value than some think. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- FOOTBALLGUYS PICKS YOUR QUEST FOR $500K AWAITS - The 2022 FOOTBALLGUYS PLAYERS CHAMPIONSHIP is filling up fast.\ The $500,000 grand prize and the $4,395,750 total prize pool are fully guaranteed. [ATL - Desmond Ridder inks rookie deal]( Source: ESPN.com - Field Yates Atlanta Falcons QB Desmond Ridder agreed to his four-year rookie deal worth $5.36 million, including a $1.08 million signing bonus, according to a source Tuesday, July 19. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Ridder could be the quarterback of the future for the Falcons. In fact, he could push veteran QB Marcus Mariota for the starting job in training camp. Ridder is a great leader, he's mechanically sound, and has the necessary athleticism of a modern-day quarterback. However, his play is erratic and Ridder needs to be better when under duress if he's going to be a quality starter in the NFL. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 5. [NE - QB Jones Confident Entering Year 2]( Source: Michael Baca - NFL.com Michael Baca, from NFL.com, reports New England Patriots QB Mac Jones has 'made significant strides' heading into 2022 and is more confident entering his second season. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] We're getting a lot of Jones hype reports this offseason. Some of it has to be fluff, but there are also some kernels of truth to this type of report. Jones has reworked his body and is paying better attention to his diet. He's set to take charge in year two, but the Patriots are still going to run the heck out of the ball. That limits his fantasy value, and Jones is merely a deep bench player for most Fantasy GMs out there. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 6. [NO - Darius Victor to work out for Saints](=) Source: NewOrleans.Football - Nick Underhill Free-agent RB Darius Victor (USFL) will work out for the New Orleans Saints in the coming days. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Undrafted out of Towson in 2017, Victor did spend some time with the Saints and the Cardinals before heading to the CFL. He was 2022 offensive MVP of the USFL, leading New Jersey Generals in rushing touchdowns (15) this season. He's a compact rusher with a nose for the end zone. We'll see if he can use the momentum from the USFL to earn a spot back in the NFL with this tryout. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- That'll do it for today, Folks. Thanks for reading and thanks for being part of the Footballguys Family. We'll see you tomorrow with the Update.
