[CLE - Cleveland could sign another quarterback](#8) 9. [DET - DET interested in extending TE T.J. Hockenson's contract](#9) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 1. [NYG - Giants to pursue Jimmy Garoppolo?]() Source: NFL Network - David Carr The New York Giants may pursue San Francisco 49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo in a trade, NFL Network's David Carr speculates. 'Jimmy G can win some games for somebody. He absolutely still can play at a high level -- he won a lot of games in San Francisco. I think the only issue is just his health. If he's healthy, then very possibly the Giants can make a move.' [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] The speculation is running rampant across NFL circles now that Garoppolo is back to throwing. The 49ers have Trey Lance as their starter, and most expected them to deal Garoppolo sometime before the start of training camp. We'll see what their asking price could be...and if any team is going to give them what they want. The Giants have Daniel Jones as their starter, and he's at least in a make-or-break season under new head coach Brian Daboll. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 2. [MIA - No extension for TE Mike Gesicki]() Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter Miami Dolphins TE Mike Gesicki will play the 2022 season on the franchise tag after failing to come to an agreement on a contract extension with the team ahead of the Friday, July 15 deadline. Gesicki will make $10.93 million in 2022. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Gesicki is an interesting fit with the new Dolphins system that is being implemented by head coach Mike McDaniel. They're going to run the heck out of the ball, and the tight end in McDaniel's offense must be a good blocker in addition to a receiving threat. While Gesicki is a dangerous weapon as a receiver, let's just say his skill as a blocker needs work. The Dolphins will let him play out 2022 under the franchise tag and see how he fits the new scheme. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 3. [DAL - No extension for TE Dalton Schultz]() Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter Dallas Cowboys TE Dalton Schultz will play the 2022 season on the franchise tag after failing to come to an agreement on a contract extension with the team ahead of the Friday, July 15 deadline. Schultz will make $10.93 million in 2022. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] It's a disappointing development for Schultz, who signed his franchise tag almost immediately with an eye on getting something done before the deadline. The Cowboys will let him play out this season on the tag, and they could tag him next year too if they wanted. That's unusual for the tight end position, but in the NFL (and with a team like the Cowboys) you just never know. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 4. [LAR - Good news for TE Tyler Higbee](=) Source: The Athletic - Jourdan Rodrigue Los Angeles Rams TE Tyler Higbee (knee) is expected to be fully cleared from the knee injury that he suffered in last season's NFC Championship Game by the start of the regular season, if not sooner. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] We should see the Rams take it easy on Higbee through training camp. In fact, we'd be surprised if we see him in the preseason at all. Higbee did participate in some on-field activities during OTAs, so it's no surprise he's on track to be ready for Week 1. Last year, Higbee finished as the no.14 tight end (in standard scoring leagues) and we've got him projected in a similar spot this season. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 5. [BUF - WR Jamison Crowder to man the slot?]( Source: WGRZ.com - Vic Carucci Buffalo Bills WR Jamison Crowder is the frontrunner for the slot receiver job, in the opinion of Vic Carucci of WGRZ.com. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] The Bills should have Crowder in the slot, and he's an upgrade over last year's slot receiver Cole Beasley. However, WR Isaiah McKenzie and rookie RB James Cook could be lined up in the slot as well. Expect the Bills to have plenty of different packages featuring all three players from the slot. He may not be the WR3 he was earlier in his career with Washington or the Jets, but Crowder has at least 'what the heck' flex value on one of the league's most explosive offenses. [CHI - WR Darnell Mooney improving stamina]( Source: 1 No Source Chicago Bears WR Darnell Mooney said he focused on conditioning this offseason after dealing with fatigue during games last season. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Another day, and another positive story about Mooney. Fantasy GMs should have a certain level of excitement about what Mooney can do this season. Of course, those projections have to be weighed with the growth of QB Justin Fields. He notched over 1,000 yards receiving last year with four receiving touchdowns (on 140 targets), and this year we like him to post similar numbers. The no.1 receiver for the Bears should be considered a low-end WR2 or flex option for Fantasy GMs out there. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 7. [BUF - WR Isaiah McKenzie to have smaller role?]( Source: WGRZ.com - Vic Carucci Buffalo Bills WR Isaiah McKenzie could be limited to 'more of a specialty role' in the offense, in the opinion of Vic Carucci of WGRZ.com. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] McKenzie has done a good job growing as a player in his time with the Bills. On the field, he's a gadget player with plenty of explosion to his game. We expect the Bills to continue to use him that way out of the slot and the backfield. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 8. [CLE - Cleveland could sign another quarterback]() Source: The Cleveland Plain Dealer - Mary Kay Cabot The Cleveland Browns will sign a quarterback to back up interim starting QB Jacoby Brissett if QB Deshaun Watson is suspended for an extended period of time, according to The Cleveland Plain Dealer's Mary Kay Cabot. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] We could see that happening if Watson is suspended for most or all of the 2022 season. The Browns have Brissett as their starter if need be, and they have veteran Joshua Dobbs as a backup. Neither one are terribly inspiring, so the Browns could be watching the waiver wire at the end of the preseason. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 9. [DET - DET interested in extending TE T.J. Hockenson's contract]( Source: ESPN.com - Jeremy Fowler The Detroit Lions are expected to prioritize contract extension talks with T.J. Hockenson this summer, according to ESPN.com's Jeremy Fowler. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] The Lions picked up Hockenson's fifth-year option, so he's under contract through the 2023 season. Instead of watching the market prices go up for tight ends, the Lions would be wise to extend Hockenson now in a deal that should make him one of the highest-paid players at his position. When healthy, Hockenson is one of the best tight ends in the league. We like him in the 6-8 range for tight ends this season. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- That'll do it for today, Folks. Thanks for reading and thanks for being part of the Footballguys Family.
