[CAR - Browns paying 10.5 million of Mayfield salary](=) Source: Joseph Person and Zac Jackson - The Athletic Joseph Person and Zac Jackson of The Athletic report that the Browns are paying $10.5 million of Baker Mayfield's salary, and the Panthers are paying $4.86 million. They also report that the Colts showed no interest in Mayfield and that the Panthers were the only "serious" team about Mayfield according to multiple sources. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] The perception from the outside was that the league didn't think much of Mayfield, and the pay arrangement in the trade with only modest draft compensation of a conditional fifth that becomes a fourth if Mayfield plays 70% of the snaps coming back to Cleveland confirms that. Mayfield will get an opportunity to rehabilitate his image around the league as the almost certain Week 1 starter for the Panthers. Every player in the Panthers offense has a higher, albeit still limited ceiling with Mayfield given now backup Sam Darnold's poor play last season. The Panthers at least avoid paying Mayfield anywhere near his previous 18+ million guaranteed salary, as Mayfield also agreed to a paycut of about $3.5 million. The arrow is still pointing down for everyone involved here with Matt Rhule on the hot seat, but there's a chance for redemption. [NFL - Duane Brown arrested]( Source: USA TODAY Sports - Steve Gardner Free-agent OT Duane Brown (Seahawks) was arrested at Los Angeles International Airport Saturday, July 9, for allegedly carrying a concealed gun in his luggage, according to multiple sources. He was charged with a misdemeanor and released on $10,000 bond later that day. Brown has a court date scheduled for Aug. 3. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] The Seahawks moved on from Brown, taking Charles Cross with the #9 pick in the first round. [CLE - Johnson a trade candidate?](=) Source: Jake Trotter - ESPN Jake Trotter, of ESPN, believes the Browns "could easily move on" from RB D'Ernest Johnson, including via trade, because he is only guaranteed $900,000 on his renegotiated contract. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Trotter also cites Jerome Ford and Demetric Felton's presence - both drafted by the current regime - as a part of the reason Johnson could be the "odd man out". He is a terrific fit in the Browns running game, but the team might not want to carry four running backs. Johnson could complicate another backfield if he's released and a team claims him and his $2.43 million contract. [NYJ - Mims impressed in offseason](=) Source: Rich Cimini - ESPN Rich Cimini, of ESPN, reports that WR Denzel Mims impressed in the offseason after "struggling to gain footing with the current coaching staff". Mims is a physical talent and was a second-round pick just two years ago, but he hasn't fit in with either coaching staff he has played with. Keep him on your deep dynasty radar. [BUF - Rams offered Von Miller more per year](=) Source: The Athletic - Dan Pompei Dan Pompei, of The Athletic, reports that the Rams offered edge rusher Von Miller more per year than the Bills, but with only two years guaranteed. Miller valued the extra guaranteed year more because of his age, according to Pompei. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] The story details Brandon Beane's chase of Miller going back to 2019, including a bid to trade for Miller last year. Miller and the Broncos chose the Rams instead, and the rest is history. Josh Allen and other Bills recruited Miller and the two had speculated about joining forces in the past. The Cowboys tried to land Miller, whose infant son Valor lives in the Dallas area, but only offered him the five-year, $70 million deal that Randy Gregory turned down to join the Broncos.
