[CAR - OC critical of QB Baker Mayfield fan in 2018]( Source: New York Post - Paul Schwartz Carolina Panthers QB Baker Mayfield's new offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo, who was the New York Giants head coach when Mayfield was in the 2018 NFL Draft, had some critiques of Mayfield at the time. 'He's got an edge to him, I like that. He's gonna lead, they're gonna follow him,' McAdoo said of Mayfield. 'I didn't see a lot of pro-style football in his college tape. And if you're short you have to be able to make up for it some way, somehow, and personality doesn't do that. I didn't think he was a great athlete. This guy is kinda like a pocket quarterback that is short and with small hands, that's what I worry about.' [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] First thing, 2018 was a long time ago. The second thing, some of this is the NY Post stirring the pot. But we try to bring you all we're seeing. The word was Panthers head coach Matt Rhule needed a 'rock star' offensive coordinator to hire this offseason and McAdoo was the best they could come up with. That's not great, but now McAdoo must be able to work with Mayfield as the staff tries to save their jobs with a quarterback change. Mayfield is going to be motivated after things fell apart with the Browns, and the team certainly sees him as an upgrade over QB Sam Darnold. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 2. [KC - RB Jones a 'Legitimate Candidate' to Start]() Source: Nate Taylor - The Athletic Nate Taylor, from The Athletic, reports Kansas City Chiefs RB Ronald Jones is a 'legitimate candidate' to start at running back over Clyde Edwards-Helaire. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Jones is a no-nonsense runner who could beat out Edwards-Helaire in training camp. We won't see Jones used much in the passing game, but the Chiefs can turn to Jerick McKinnon for those duties. Jones is part of the 'all hype' team this offseason, with plenty of stories about him flooding the news cycle. We'll see if he can play up to the hype in training camp and the preseason. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 3. [TB - RB Giovani Bernard on roster bubble?](=) Source: ESPN.com - Jenna Laine Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Giovani Bernard could be the odd man out in the backfield, according to ESPN's Jenna Laine. Bernard will be competing with former third-round pick Ke'Shawn Vaughn for the No. 3 role behind Leonard Fournette and rookie Rachaad White. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] It's not a stretch to think that Bernard could be on the outside looking in when all is said and done after training camp. The veteran has skill as a runner and receiver, but the addition of White means Bernard is pushed further down the depth chart. Vaughn is a younger player and could be seen by some as the superior runner. We'll see how this battle shakes out in camp and the preseason. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 4. [PHI - QB Gardner Minshew staying put?]( Source: NBC Sports Philadelphia - Dave Zangaro Philadelphia Eagles QB Gardner Minshew isn't expected to be traded unless a team offers an early draft pick as compensation, according to Dave Zangaro of NBC Sports Philadelphia. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] There were rumblings earlier in the year that Minshew could be available via trade, but we don't think any team ponies up enough for the Eagles' liking. That means Minshew is there for this season to serve as a primary backup to QB Jalen Hurts. Minshew is set to be an unrestricted free agent in 2023, and perhaps then he could find a team where he can compete for the top job. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 5. [PHI - WR Quez Watkins could move outside]( Source: NBC Sports Philadelphia - Dave Zangaro Philadelphia Eagles WR Quez Watkins will have a 'chance to use his burners outside' this season because of the addition of WR A.J. Brown, according to Dave Zangaro of NBC Sports Philadelphia. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] That's a couple of hype stories about Watkins over the last few days. The hype might be real with Watkins because of his speed and ability to take the top off the defense. Watkins made splash plays this spring that will likely force his way into the mix on offense. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 6. [LAC - WR Mike Williams building chemistry](=) Source: CBS Sports - Jeff Kerr Los Angeles Chargers WR [Mike Williams](=) put in a lot of reps with QB Justin Herbert at OTAs. 'I thought we got a lot of time together,' Herbert said. 'We got to work on a lot of reps, a lot of routes together. I feel more comfortable throwing him the ball.' [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Williams has a ton of talent, and he's got one of the best young passers throwing him the ball in Herbert. Building stronger chemistry is nothing but good news for the Chargers and for Fantasy GMs. There's a real WR1 outlook for Williams if he is more consistent in 2022. Williams has a current ADP of WR25 (5.12) in 12-team PPR leagues. [CAR - WR Rashard Higgins pushing for a role]( Source: The Athletic - Joseph Person Carolina Panthers WR Rashard Higgins 'came on strong' at the end of minicamp, especially in the red zone, according to Joseph Person of The Athletic. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Higgins has always had talent and flashed ability earlier in his pro career with the Browns. His best season was 2020 (599 yards, four touchdowns), but Higgins fell to no.4 on the depth chart last year. That's about where he's at with the Panthers this season behind D.J. Moore, Robbie Anderson, and Terrace Marshall. Fantasy GMs aren't going to be able to mine much production from Higgins at his current spot, and it would take injuries above him on the depth chart before he became fantasy relevant. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 8. [LAC - QB Justin Herbert focusing on footwork](=) Source: CBS Sports - Jeff Kerr Los Angeles Chargers QB Justin Herbert said he has spent a lot of time working on his footwork this offseason. 'A lot of it is footwork,' Herbert said. 'I think I can continue to step up in the pocket, feel pressure and get the ball out.' [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Believe it or not, good quarterback play begins with footwork. Herbert already has a ton of arm talent, but tying his feet to his arm will give him better pass placement. Having better footwork will also improve his anticipation as a passer. Herbert is one of the best young quarterbacks in the league, and he's a QB1 for Fantasy GMs in 2022 who could finish as the best quarterback in fantasy football this season. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 9. [KC - WR Marquez Valdes-Scantling a fast learner](=) Source: ESPN.com - Adam Teicher Kansas City Chiefs WR Marquez Valdes-Scantling has 'done a great job of learning the offense really fast' and has been making plays, according to QB Patrick Mahomes, and Mahomes said he already has confidence throwing to Valdes-Scantling. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Things are going to look different for the Chiefs this year without WR Tyreek Hill. Valdes-Scantling was brought in to help bolster the revamped wide receiver room in 2022. He's got a nice size/speed combination and could be a part of the offense when QB Patrick Mahomes goes deep. His current ADP is WR62 (14.04) in 12-team PPR leagues and the upside for Valdes-Scantling as a 'what the heck' flex is there. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 10. [CAR - WR Terrace Marshall Jr. finding his rhythm]() Source: The Athletic - Joseph Person Carolina Panthers WR Terrace Marshall Jr. said he is more comfortable with his route running as he enters his second season and is processing everything more quickly. 'It's just a matter of time for the world to see what I can do,' Marshall said. 'Right now I've just got my head down grinding, taking it day by day, waiting on my turn.' [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] We like Marshall in dynasty formats, but there's not much there for him in re-draft leagues. He's currently no.3 on the depth chart behind D.J. Moore and Robbie Anderson. With Anderson's play looking to be on the decline, Marshall might leapfrog him in the pecking order at some point during the season. Let's see what Marshall can do in training camp and the preseason to accelerate that process. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 11. [CIN - RB Joe Mixon lived on the perimeter in 2021]( Source: Sports Info Solutions Cincinnati Bengals RB Joe Mixon ran outside on a league-high 102 of 292 rush attempts in 2021, according to Sports Info Solutions. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Mixon is a banger who can live between the tackles, but the veteran back still has the speed to bounce things outside when needed. This year, the Bengals should try to mix in more of RB Chris Evans as a change-of-pace behind Mixon to help keep their lead back fresh. Evans has a chance to supplant Samaje Perine as the Bengals' third-down back. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- That'll do it for today, Folks. Thanks for reading and thanks for sharing some of your fantasy football season with us. Trust me, we consider it an honor and we'll do everything we can to help you win. Have a great weekend.
