[CAR - Carolina trades for QB Baker Mayfield](=) Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero Cleveland Browns QB Baker Mayfield was traded to the Carolina Panthers on Wednesday, July 6, in exchange for a conditional 2024 fifth-round pick, per sources. The deal is pending a physical and it isn't clear exactly how much of Mayfield's money the Panthers will pick up. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Mayfield seems to have the inside track as the starter for the Panthers, and QB Sam Darnold likely goes to the bench. But we'll see. Mayfield, the former no.1 overall pick in the 2018 NFL draft, gets a fresh start with a new team...and he gets to play his former team in Week 1 of the regular season. We don't think Mayfield does much to save the job of head coach Matt Rhule, but Week 1 against the Browns is going to be his Super Bowl. 'He takes a pretty big beating; I've seen his body after some of them games and I understand why [he would retire].'
