[CLE - NFLPA bracing for lengthy QB Deshaun Watson ban]( Source: Pro Football Network - Aaron Wilson The NFLPA believes Cleveland Browns QB Deshaun Watson could get suspended for the entire 2022 season, if not indefinitely, for his off-the-field issues, according to sources. The Browns are also bracing for a lengthy suspension. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] We should know more about Watson's status next month. Perhaps the league makes a decision in early July, or perhaps the league announces a decision right before training camp at the end of the month. Either way, things seem to be trending towards at least an 8-game suspension if not longer. That means QB Jacoby Brissett should be the starter for the Browns for quite some time...if not most of the 2022 season. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 2. [NO - RB Alvin Kamara to face civil lawsuit]() Source: ProFootballTalk.com - Mike Florio New Orleans Saints RB Alvin Kamara is set to face a civil lawsuit stemming from an alleged physical altercation he got into with another man that resulted in Kamara being charged with felony battery, according to a source. Kamara is reportedly expecting to be suspended for at least six games. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] This one feels far from settled and we hope to have more clarity on this soon. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 3. [SF - Jimmy Garoppolo remains on schedule](=) Source: ESPN.com - Jeremy Fowler San Francisco 49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo (shoulder) is on schedule in his recovery from shoulder surgery, per source, and is expected to start throwing in early July. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Garoppolo should be ready to practice at some point during training camp. Whether or not he's still with the 49ers remains to be seen. QB Trey Lance, the 49ers first-round pick last year, is projected as the starter but some feel he might not yet be ready. If Garoppolo was healthy and still with the 49ers there might be a competition for the starting job. Nobody knows if Garoppolo will be traded, released or kept by the 49ers when he's ready to get out there on the football field. Stay tuned. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 4. [NYG - Coaching changes hurting QB Daniel Jones?]( Source: NFL.com - Coral Smith New York Giants QB Daniel Jones' progress has been hindered by multiple coaching changes, retired QB Eli Manning said of his former teammate. 'By my fifth year, I had been in the same offense the whole time, I knew it, I could coach it up, new guys are coming in, I was speaking the same language as my offensive coordinator and as [former head coach Tom] Coughlin, and kind of preaching the same stuff,' Manning said. 'And with [Jones], it's all new, and it's learning, and he's consistently trying to learn and learn and learn, and it just takes some time before it all sinks in.' [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Jones has not performed up to expectations, but the former coaching staffs he's worked under have pretty much been awful. That's no longer the case with new head coach Brian Daboll. He will implement a system that plays to the strengths of his quarterback, so Jones should look better this season. He still may not be the long-term answer for the Giants and has little time to get up to speed. There is no doubt that Jones is in a make-or-break year in 2022. [TB - QB Blaine Gabbert has edge over QB Kyle Trask](=) Source: JoeBucsFan.com - Ira Kaufman Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Blaine Gabbert has the edge over QB Kyle Trask for the team's backup quarterback job, according to head coach Todd Bowles. 'I'm comfortable with Blaine,' Bowles said. 'We talk a lot. You know, we've gotten to know each other over the past couple of years. He knows this offense very well. He understands the offense very well. He knows where to go with the football because he's been in it. You know, that gives him the edge over Trask.' [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] The Buccaneers are in a Super Bowl window so long as QB Tom Brady is under center. They need veteran insurance like Gabbert in case Brady gets banged up during the season. Trask is still a player we like in dynasty formats, and we're excited to see his progress as a passer during training camp and the preseason. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 6. [LVR - RB Drake Still Recovering]() Source: Vic Tafur - The Athletic Vic Tafur, from The Athletic, reports Las Vegas Raiders RB Kenyan Drake (ankle) was not cleared for mandatory minicamp in June. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] The Raiders are likely to move to a RBBC this year, perhaps featuring three running backs, when Drake is healthy. Josh Jacobs is the lead back, likely in his last year with the Raiders. Drake is there to work in space as a runner and receiver out of the backfield. Rookie Zamir White is impressing in offseason camp and could earn a larger role as the season goes on. White will push Drake for time and perhaps get a head start as Drake may not be ready for the start of training camp. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 7. [SEA - RB Penny 'In The Driver's Seat']( Source: Brady Henderson - ESPN.com Brady Henderson, from ESPN.com, reports Seattle Seahawks RB Rashaad Penny is 'in the driver's seat' to be the featured back. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] No surprise here, and when he's healthy Penny is a talented runner who can produce. However, injuries have been a major problem for the former first-round pick. That's why Seattle drafted Kenneth Walker (Michigan State) to help carry the load (and perhaps take over as the lead back eventually). Penny and Walker will carry the rock for Seattle while Chris Carson (neck) continues on his road to recovery. While healthy, Penny has RB2 value for Fantasy GMs and he's currently getting drafted as RB28 (6.07) in 12-team PPR leagues. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 8. [TB - Strong Appreciation for TE Otton](=) Source: Shane Vereen - SiriusXM NFL Shane Vereen, from SiriusXM NFL, had some high praise for Tampa Bay Buccaneers rookie TE Cade Otton. "He is going to be one of the top rookie pass catchers, in my opinion, this season. He is that good of a tight end," Vereen said. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Otton has yet to practice with the Buccaneers due to offseason ankle surgery. A fourth-round pick for the Buccaneers, Otton was known as a player who could create his own space on underneath routes. We like him in dynasty formats, but in 2022 Otton begins his pro career as a backup to TE Cameron Brate. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- That'll do it for today, Folks. Thanks for reading and thanks for being part of the Footballguys Family.
