[NO - OLB Demario Davis agrees to extension](#8) 9. [TB - PUP list possible for WR Chris Godwin?](#9) 10. [SEA - SEA, QB Baker Mayfield have mutual interest](#10) 11. [DAL - TE Dalton Schultz, DAL 'far apart' on extension](#11) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 1. [CIN - RB Joe Mixon no longer a three-down RB?]( Source: The Athletic - Paul Dehner Jr. Cincinnati Bengals RB Joe Mixon is 'unlikely' to be a three-down back in 2022, according to The Athletic's Paul Dehner Jr., who cites Mixon's struggles in pass protection as a reason. 'There will be spots for [Mixon] on third down, but the days focusing on turning him into a three-down back are behind them.' [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Mixon can still return first-round value if he stays healthy and harvests the large number of rushing touchdowns this top offense is likely to create, but this limits his upside. There is also the question of whether Chris Evans will take over third-down duties and complicate the backup picture. Mixon is a relatively safe, but possibly less exciting pick near the 1-2 turn. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 2. [DAL - OLB Micah Parsons eyeing sack record]( Source: CBS Sports - Cody Benjamin Dallas Cowboys LB Micah Parsons said his goal is to get 23 sacks this season to break the single-season record. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] It might be tough for him to do that with the Cowboys losing Randy Gregory in free agency, but if Dante Fowler can regain his form under his former coach Dan Quinn, the Cowboys and Parsons will both benefit. Parsons remains an elite IDP option at linebacker heading into this season. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 3. [CIN - RB Chris Evans emerging as Cincy's No. 2?]( Source: The Athletic - Paul Dehner Jr. Cincinnati Bengals RB Chris Evans could supplant RB Samaje Perine as the team's No. 2 running back in 2022, The Athletic's Paul Dehner Jr. writes. 'If [Evans] can continue to grow as a pass protector and build trust in the coaching staff to do the right things, you could make an argument he could supplant Perine as the third-down back.' [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] If the Bengals are going to have a split backup role behind Joe Mixon, then both Perine's and Evans' values take a hit. The main takeaway here might be that Evans is a better pickup than Perine if Joe Mixon goes down. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 4. [NE - NE restructures David Andrews]( Source: ESPN.com - Field Yates New England Patriots C David Andrews had his contract restructured on Friday, June 24. The revised deal creates $2.1 million in 2022 cap space for the Pats by converting $3.15 million of Andrews' money into a signing bonus, according to a source. Andrew's updated cap charge for 2022 is $4.275 million. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] The Patriots only had $200,000 in cap room, so this was necessary. Andrews will be more difficult to release with more of his compensation pushed into the future, but the team doesn't anticipate that they would be parting with one of the stalwarts of their offensive line. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 5. [TEN - Malik Willis to be No. 3 QB?]() Source: ESPN.com - Turron Davenport Tennessee Titans QB Malik Willis will be on a 'gradual development' program while QB Logan Woodside will serves as the backup in 2022, according to Turron Davenport of ESPN.com. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] We'll see how Willis goes through training camp and the preseason, but he may be further away from competing for a starting job than some think. One of the most exciting quarterbacks in this draft class, Willis can run and has a rocket arm. He needs to get better with timing and accuracy as a passer to be the best pro he can be. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 6. [TEN - Chigoziem Okonkwo praised by QB]() Source: TennesseeTitans.com - Jim Wyatt Tennessee Titans TE Chigoziem Okonkwo was labeled 'a weapon' by QB Ryan Tannehill. 'Chig's done a great job for us,' Tannehill said. 'He's made some big strides this spring. I'm proud of the way he's come in, learned what to do, and we'll continue to push him on that. But just physically, to see his size, his strength, his speed, how he's able to play through contact, he definitely gives us another weapon.' [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Okonkwo has generated buzz from Draft day in Tennessee. Austin Hooper will be the primary receiving tight end, but Okonkwo can do a decent Delanie Walker impression and could carve out a role early in two tight end sets as a move tight end. Monitor his development in dynasty leagues. [CLE - CB Denzel Ward TBD for start of camp]( Source: Akron Beacon Journal - Nate Ulrich Cleveland Browns CB Denzel Ward (foot) said he'd be ready for training camp, but he said 'we'll see' when he was asked if he'd be ready for the start of camp July 27. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Ward is the the Browns #1 corner, so if he's not 100% to start the season, that could greatly help D.J. Moore's matchup in Week 1. The Jets, Steelers and Falcons also face the Browns in Weeks 2-4. We'll be watching this situation in training camp. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 8. [NO - OLB Demario Davis agrees to extension]( Source: ESPN.com - Field Yates New Orleans Saints LB Demario Davis agreed to an updated contract and a one-year extension, according to a source on Friday, June 24. Davis' updated deal includes $2 million in yearly incentives from 2022-24, no cap impact in 2022, and his 2023 base salary drops from $8.5 million to $8.25 million (with $1 million guaranteed) but now has a $250,000 workout bonus. In 2024, Davis can make up to $14 million via a $10 million base salary, a $2 million roster bonus, and another $2 million in incentives. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Davis is the quarterback of the defense and not going anywhere any time soon. His dead cap number for 2023 (13+ million) ensures that he'll stay on the roster, but now terms for his 2024 compensation have been set. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 9. [TB - PUP list possible for WR Chris Godwin?]( Source: The Athletic - Greg Auman Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Chris Godwin (knee) starting the 2022 season on the Physically Unable to Perform List and missing the first six games as he continues to recover from a torn anterior cruciate ligament wouldn't be surprising to The Athletic's Greg Auman. 'The optimistic view would be that he's back practicing during preseason and close enough to be on the initial 53-man roster,' Auman writes. 'But the goal is to have him fully healthy when it matters most this season, so it wouldn't be surprising if they took a slower approach and had him on the physically unable to perform list for the first six weeks of the season, leaning on Russell Gage as the No. 2 early in the year.' [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Russell Gage's fantasy stock is up on this speculation, and Godwin should drop a few rounds if the fantasy draft market responds appropriately. This could focus the offense even more on Mike Evans early in the season, making him worth a second round pick, if not late first. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 10. [SEA - SEA, QB Baker Mayfield have mutual interest]( Source: Pro Football Network - Aaron Wilson The Seattle Seahawks and Cleveland Browns QB Baker Mayfield have mutual interest in a trade, per sources. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] The Seahawks and Panthers have both been linked to Mayfield, but the sticking point was the Browns willingness to pick up some or most of his 18+ million dollar salary. If both are in on Mayfield, that could create pressure for one to cave to the Browns terms for the trade. Either way, Mayfield is highly unlikely to be a Brown when the season opens, even if Deshaun Watson is suspended for the season... or longer. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 11. [DAL - TE Dalton Schultz, DAL 'far apart' on extension]() Source: Dallas Morning News - Michael Gehlken The Dallas Cowboys and TE Dalton Schultz are 'far apart' in contract extension talks, according to Michael Gehlken of the Dallas Morning News. If no deal is reached by Friday, July 15, Schultz will play the 2022 campaign on the franchise tag, which is worth $10.93 million. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Remember the Cowboys took Jake Ferguson (Wisconsin) in the fourth round. He could be Schultz's replacement in 2023 if this is the last year Schultz is with the team. The Cowboys being willing to tag Schultz, but not sign him long term at his desired salary is a bad sign for his dynasty value. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- That'll do it for today, Folks. Thanks for reading and thanks for being part of the Footballguys Family.
