[NYG - Undrafted TE Allen Getting First-Team Reps](#10) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 1. [SEA - Hope To Get Something Done with WR Metcalf]() Source: Bob Condotta - Seattle Times Bob Condotta, from the Seattle Times, reports Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll said "These are crucial weeks to get something done." when asked about the contract situation of WR D.K. Metcalf. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] The Seahawks want to get something done with Metcalf, and he wants to be paid a top dollar contract for a wide receiver. Metcalf's play could be held back this season by poor QB play, so the sooner he can get paid the better. The two sides have talked but nothing is close to getting done. However, the team seems to be intent on finding a way to make Metcalf happy. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 2. [NO - WR Thomas Doubtful for Minicamp]() Source: Amie Just - Times Picayune Amie Just, from the Times Picayune, reports New Orleans Saints WR Michael Thomas is doubtful for mandatory minicamp according to head coach Dennis Allen. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] We're not surprised by this news. In fact, it will be more of a surprise when Thomas is actually healthy and out there participating in practice. Perhaps that will be at the start of training camp later in the summer. WRs Jarvis Landry and first-round pick Chris Olave will get more looks with Thomas out, and they could get a bump in fantasy potential if Thomas is slow to start the 2022 regular season. Stay tuned. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 3. [NYG - WR Slayton on the Bubble?]() Source: Zack Rosenblatt - NJ.com Zack Rosenblatt, from NJ.com, reports New York Giants WR Darius Slayton could be a candidate to be released. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Slayton has speed but he's got to impress the new coaching staff if he wants to make the 53-man roster as a reserve receiver in 2022. Cutting Slayton would free up around $2.5 million in cap space - something the Giants desperately need. According to this report, Slayton struggled to catch passes and rarely worked with the top unit. Things are not trending in the right direction for the speedy veteran. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 4. [NYG - RB Barkley Being Moved Around]() Source: Zack Rosenblatt - NJ.com Zack Rosenblatt, from NJ.com, reports New York Giants RB Saquon Barkley is being moved around the formation at OTAs and minicamp. Per the article, Barkley was lining up as a receiver -- both in the slot and outside -- frequently throughout drills, and moved around a lot in pre-snap motion too. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] This has been a consistent offseason drumbeat - the Giants are going to use Barkley as much as they can - and he's certainly going to be used frequently as a receiver. Not just a receiver out of the backfield, Barkley is going to run routes from the slot and out wide. He's talented and if healthy could be a nice value pick for your fantasy teams in the third round. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 5. [CLE - Return of WR Beckham 'Unlikely']() Source: Nate Ulrich - Akron Beacon Journal Nate Ulrich, from the Akron Beacon-Journal, reports a reunion of the Cleveland Browns and WR Odell Beckham Jr seems unlikely according to sources. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] This matches earlier reports from Browns camp that indicates upgrading the no.2 wide receiver position is not really a priority. Behind Amari Cooper, guys like Donovan Peoples-Jones and rookie David Bell will compete to establish a pecking order. Both RBs Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt will catch passes out of the backfield, and TE David Njoku is expected to be a larger part of the passing game in 2022. Peoples-Jones is a late-round flier for Fantasy GMs if he wins the no.2 job opposite of Cooper. [SEA - TE Fant 'Spectacular' Per Carroll]( Source: John Boyle - Seahawks.com John Boyle, from Seahawks.com, reports Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll said TE Noah Fant "had maybe the most spectacular camp of anybody." [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Fant has talent, but the Broncos offense under OC Pat Shurmur didn't know how to use him. He's an "F" tight end who can attack the seam with speed. Fant is a TE2 for Fantasy GMs but the upside is there for him to be more - even with 'meh' QB play from either Geno Smith or Drew Lock. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 7. [DET - Open Competition to Backup QB Goff]( Source: Tim Twentyman - DetroitLions.com Tim Twentyman, from DetroitLions.com, reports Detroits Lions head coach Dan Campbell said QB David Blough has earned reps on the second-team offense this week. Campbell also said it's very much an open competition to back up starting QB Jared Goff. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Fantasy GMs are not dialed in on the backup QB competition in Detroit...not even in dynasty formats. Blough has earned second-team reps, but he's battling with Tim Boyle to be the no.2 on the depth chart behind Goff. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 8. [SEA - RB Carson Not Cleared for Minicamp]() Source: Bob Condotta - Seattle Times Bob Condotta, from the Seattle Times, reports Seattle Seahawks RB Chris Carson was not cleared for mandatory minicamp per head coach Pete Carroll. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Neck injuries are tricky to come back from. In fact, Carson may never be the same again. Per Carroll's press conference there will be more assessments in two weeks to determine Carson's availability for the season. Seattle has Rashaad Penny as the lead back with rookie Kenneth Walker ready for a large role on the ground as well. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 9. [NYG - WR Toivonen Getting First-Team Reps]() Source: Zack Rosenblatt - NJ.com Zack Rosenblatt, from NJ.com, reports New York Giants WR Travis Toivonen was getting reps with both the first and second-team offenses and took advantage of his opportunities. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Last December, the Giants signed Toivonen to their practice squad as a developmental player. He went undrafted out of North Dakota in 2020 and spent time in the Fan Controlled Football League and with the Seattle Seahawks before landing with the Giants. We'll monitor him in crazy deep dynasty formats. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 10. [NYG - Undrafted TE Allen Getting First-Team Reps]() Source: Zack Rosenblatt - NJ.com Zack Rosenblatt, from NJ.com, reports New York Giants undrafted rookie tight end Austin Allen was getting as many first-team reps as Ricky Seals-Jones. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Allen played his college ball at Nebraska, and he's one of those players who could be a better pro than he was a collegian. He's huge, measuring in at 6-feet, 7-inches and is a natural contested catch winner due to that size. He's got big play ability, snaring five passes of over 30 yards as a senior with the Cornhuskers. We'll see if he can continue to impress and push for playing time if he makes the 53-man roster. Deep dynasty GMs need to keep an eye on him. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- That'll do it for today, Folks. Thanks for reading and thanks for being part of the Footballguys Family. We'll see you tomorrow with the Update.
