[NYG - WR Sterling Shepard coming along with his rehab](#10) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 1. [NFL - QB Ryan Fitzpatrick calls it a career]() Source: NFL Network - Tom Pelissero Free-agent QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (Commanders) announced his retirement from the NFL on Thursday, June 2. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Fitzpatrick was contemplating retirement for a few seasons, and he's finally decided to hang up his cleats. A seventh-round pick of the Rams in the 2005 NFL draft, Fitzpatrick ended up playing some good football although he bounced around to nine different teams in the NFL. He was signed last year to be the Commanders starter, but a hip injury in Week 1 ended his season. Now, Fitzpatrick heads to Amazon to play a 'key role' in their NFL broadcasts. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 2. [JAX - RB Travis Etienne wowing]() Source: SI.com - John Shipley Jacksonville Jaguars RB Travis Etienne (foot) looked like his old self in pass-catching drills this week, according to SI.com's John Shipley. His explosion and ability to quickly cut and make breaks stood out during pass-catching drills. He ran one drag route and extended for a catch from QB Trevor Lawrence that showed he still has the best pure speed and home-run ability before and after the catch of any player on the offense. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] You're listening for drumbeats during the offseason, and the news has all been positive when it comes to Etienne. A foot injury knocked him out of his entire rookie season, and now Etienne is fully healthy and ready to showcase his ability. Etienne can work as a running back, but the Jaguars have also been moving him around the formation - out wide and in the slot. He's a RB2 with upside for Fantasy GMs this season, and he could be one of the most exciting players at any position in 2022. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 3. [NYG - RB Saquon Barkley expects to be involved as receiver](=) Source: CBS Sports HQ - Josina Anderson New York Giants RB Saquon Barkley recently told CBS Sports HQ's Josina Anderson that he feels like 2022 will be 'a fresh start' and that he expects to be much more involved in the passing game than he has been in recent years. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] This has been reported before, so it's consistent with the message coming out of Giants camp. Barkley is an outstanding receiver when healthy, but he has struggled to stay on the field after his rookie season. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 4. [BAL - QB Lamar Jackson has new things to learn]() Source: BaltimoreRavens.com - Ryan Mink Baltimore Ravens QB Lamar Jackson will have some new things to learn that offensive coordinator Greg Roman added whenever he reports to camp. 'I went back and changed some things and added some things,' Roman said. 'There's definitely some things that are new, that we haven't done. There are also a bunch of things that he's pretty well adjusted to. It's probably 80 percent stuff he knows, 20 percent stuff that we're looking forward to working on.' [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Jackson has progress to make as a passer, and he's been working diligently to do that during his pro career. We'll see what kind of strides he's made this season, and certainly the Ravens want to see him improve - especially since his contract is up after this year and he could push to make nearly $50 million per year on a new deal. This offseason, Jackson has been working with a mechanics/throwing motion coach Adam Dedeaux, CEO and "motion performance expert" of 3DQB. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 5. [SF - GM would be 'a fool' to trade WR Deebo Samuel]( Source: ProFootballTalk.com - Myles Simmons San Francisco 49ers WR Deebo Samuel, who has not participated in voluntary organized team activities yet, appears more and more likely to remain a member of the team, according to recent comments from general manager John Lynch.'Well, we haven't traded him. And I've used the word 'fool' - I'd be a fool to trade him - so no (we won't be trading him). And so, yes - he'll be a part of the 49ers this year,' Lynch told NBC Sports Bay Area on Monday, May 30. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Lynch is backing up what he's said this entire time - Samuel is not getting traded. He wants a new contract, and the 49ers will one day oblige by making him one of the highest-paid wide receivers in the league. Once unfollowed by Samuel, he did re-follow the 49ers on Instagram so Samuel would be happy to stay for the right price. We'll see if things get resolved before mandatory minicamp or before training camp later this summer. [JAX - QB Trevor Lawrence taking step forward]() Source: SI.com - John Shipley Jacksonville Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence looks more confident and decisive when delivering the ball, especially in tight windows. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Lawrence was seen as a generational talent in college at Clemson. He was a no-brainer no.1 overall pick in the 2021 NFL draft, and the Jaguars may have the franchise quarterback they've been looking for. However, Lawrence did not look good as a rookie. Many rookie QBs (most of them) don't, but Lawrence looked bad - and painfully mediocre with only some late-season flashes of his ability. We're excited to see him take that next step. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 7. [TEN - Julius Chestnut making noise](=) Source: TennesseeTitans.com - Jim Wyatt Tennessee Titans RB Julius Chestnut has stood out in OTAs, according to Jim Wyatt of TennesseeTitans.com. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Keep an eye on Chestnut in crazy deep dynasty formats. He's got the size (225 pounds) to handle a large workload, and Chestnut has better-than-advertised receiving ability. Chestnut loves to cut back against the grain, and he's got the vision to find lanes others won't see. He's quick and has good burst but overall is a one-speed runner. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 8. [LAR - Kyren Williams in walking boot]() Source: The Athletic - Jourdan Rodrigue Los Angeles Rams RB Kyren Williams (foot) was spotted in a walking boot and needed a scooter to help him move around Thursday, June 2. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Williams, a fifth-round pick out of Notre Dame in the 2022 NFL draft, is a versatile back who can flourish as a runner and receiver out of the backfield. We certainly appreciate his skill set in dynasty formats, but this season as a rookie he will be buried on the depth chart. He's behind Cam Akers and Darrell Henderson at this time, and we'll have to learn more about this foot injury to see what his status could be in training camp. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 9. [JAX - Laviska Shenault Jr. buried on depth chart]() Source: SI.com - John Shipley Jacksonville Jaguars WR Laviska Shenault Jr. has at least three wide receivers ahead of him in the pecking order, and he has been returning punts. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Shenault has done little during his time in the NFL. The former second-round pick has talent, but the Jaguars have not yet known how to use him properly..and he's struggled with injuries - something that plagued him in college at the University of Colorado. Dynasty GMs might have to wait for Shenault to get with another team in order for him to get a fresh start. He's returning punts and doesn't look natural doing it yet. This is a sign that it's make-or-break for Shenault (with the Jaguars) in 2022. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 10. [NYG - WR Sterling Shepard coming along with his rehab](=) Source: CBS Sports HQ - Josina Anderson New York Giants WR Sterling Shepard (Achilles) recently told CBS Sports HQ's Josina Anderson that he began jogging for the first time last week. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] More good news out of Giants camp. Shepard also added that he will return when he is ready and is under no pressure on his exact return date. That means we'll have to wait and see how quickly he continues through his recovery. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- That'll do it for today, Folks. Thanks for reading and thanks for being part of the Footballguys Family.
