[WAS - Team to deploy RB by committee](=) Source: Commanders.com Washington Commanders head coach Ron Rivera says the team plans on deploying a running back by committee in 2022. 'Well, I think for the most part, it's going to be by committee. Some of the things that we did in Carolina we're trying to emulate, you know, we had a good two-back system,' Rivera said. 'So just feel that, you know, it's one of those things that you're going to go with, who's hot, who's rolling, you know, who's doing the good things.' [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] For those who have been playing fantasy football long enough, this is just like Jonathan Stewart and DeAngelo Williams under Rivera with the Panthers years ago. Oh yeah, JD McKissic is there to work as a change-of-pace back as well - so this is a three-headed RBBC. Commanders RB Antonio Gibson is expected to see high volume, but his usage could vary on a weekly basis. Behind him, McKissic gets third down work and rookie RB Brian Robinson could soften up defenses between the tackles. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 2. [BAL - QB Lamar Jackson not present for OTAs](=) Source: The Athletic - Jeff Zrebiec Baltimore Ravens QB Lamar Jackson was not present for voluntary organized team activities on Wednesday, May 25. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Jackson is set to play on his fifth-year option from his rookie deal in 2022. He wants a new contract that would make him one of the highest-paid quarterbacks in the league. The Ravens have not yet handed out that contract, and other teams around the NFL are monitoring this situation closely. Jackson will likely be there when the work becomes mandatory in June. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 3. [CLE - No timeline for QB Deshaun Watson decision](=) Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport Cleveland Browns QB Deshaun Watson's status for 2022 remains up in the air after NFL commissioner Roger Goodell didn't give a timeline for a disciplinary ruling when speaking to the media on Tuesday, May 24. Goodell did note that that the league is 'nearing the end of the investigation.' [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] The NFL has met with Watson, and further meeting are expected to take place in the near future. That means things are coming to a conclusion. The Browns are ready with QB Jacoby Brissett to start if/when Watson is suspended. Stay tuned, as most expect a decision to come in June or July. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 4. [PIT - Omar Khan officially named GM](=) Source: Steelers.com - Bob Labriola Pittsburgh Steelers vice president of football and business administration Omar Khan was officially named as the team's new general manager Wednesday, May 25. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Khan has worked with the Steelers for more than two decades, and the team is one of the most stable in the entire league so hiring from within makes sense. Kevin Colbert stepped down as GM after the draft, but Khan had a hand in the draft this year and is more than qualified to keep the Steelers near the top of the pack in the NFL. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 5. [WAS - WR Curtis Samuel 100 percent healthy]( Source: Commanders Wire - Bryan Manning Washington Commanders WR Curtis Samuel said he's 100 percent healthy when asked recently. 'Oh no, I am great,' Samuel replied. 'I'm great. Y'all seen me flying around out there.' [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Samuel's first season in Washington was a disaster as he only appeared in five games and caught a mere six passes for 27 yards. Terry McLaurin is their top wideout, with rookie first-round pick Jahan Dotson likely earning the no.2 spot. That leaves Samuel the no.3 role for the team if he can stay healthy. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 6. [WAS - WR Terry McLaurin extension inevitable?]() Source: Commanders Wire - Bryan Manning Washington Commanders WR Terry McLaurin and the team agreeing to a contract extension seems like it's inevitable based on the words of head coach Ron Rivera on Tuesday, May 24. 'We've had communications with [McLaurin's representatives],' Rivera said. 'We've been working with them. It's just a matter of time.' [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] This has been the consistent drumbeat this offseason. Washington wants to sign McLaurin to a big-money deal - at the right time. If this follows what other contract situations with the Commanders have done in the past, McLaurin should get his deal right before the start of training camp in late July. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 7. [CAR - WR Robby Anderson not present for OTAs](=) Source: PanthersWire - Anthony Rizzuti Carolina Panthers WR Robby Anderson is not present for organized team activities, but head coach Matt Rhule isn't concerned. 'No, this is voluntary,' Rhule said. 'I actually believe in it being voluntary. I think it's great. The guys that are here, are here. The one thing about Robby, you know Robby's going to be in the best shape of his life. He was here for a while. So, not a concern for me.' [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Voluntary workouts are not voluntary for some players. Anderson is a seasoned veteran, not some undrafted rookie trying to make an impression, so he's deciding to stay away at this time. He'll be there for mandatory work next month. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 8. [CAR - CAR wants QB Cam Newton to take pay cut]( Source: Charlotte Observer - Jonathan Alexander Free-agent QB Cam Newton remains an option for the Carolina Panthers, but the veteran signal-caller would have to agree to a smaller salary, The Charlotte Observer's Jonathan M. Alexander writes. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] This report has been out there as the Panthers continue to search for help at the quarterback position. Alexander also notes Newton would not enter training camp as the starter if re-signed. That means if added Newton would compete with Sam Darnold for the top spot. Rookie Matt Corral is also there as a developmental passer and future starter if he impresses. Oh yeah, don't forget about Baker Mayfield - as he's still a possibility for the Panthers (and Seahawks) as well. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 9. [SF - WR Deebo Samuel staying in SF still possible?]( Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport San Francisco 49ers WR Deebo Samuel remaining with the team isn't out of the realm of possibility, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport speculated. 'I think Deebo Samuel and the 49ers can get a contract settled.. there is some work to be done but I think they get it done,' Rapoport said. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] The 49ers don't want to get rid of Samuel, and Samuel wants to get a new contract. 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan said he expects Samuel at mandatory OTAs and that "the relationship can get back to normal." Things are a little uneasy right now, but the scales seem to be tipping to the two sides working something out. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 10. [IND - HC Reich Says Fantasy GMs Should Draft RB Hines]( Source: Zak Keefer - The Athletic Zak Keefer, from The Athletic, reports Indianapolis Colts HC Frank Reich said "If I was a fantasy owner, I'd consider drafting Nyheim (Hines)." [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Okay coach, we'll help spread the message for you. Fantasy GMs know that Hines is a special player in space as a runner or receiver. He could catch 50 passes this year as the change-of-pace back behind starter Jonathan Taylor. That means he's a flex option in PPR formats. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 11. [CLE - QB Deshaun Watson, WR Amari Cooper putting in extra work]() Source: Akron Beacon Journal - Nate Ulrich Cleveland Browns QB Deshaun Watson and WR Amari Cooper were putting in extra work together on a side field during special teams drills at organized team activities on Wednesday, May 25. The Akron Beacon Journal's Nate Ulrich noted that the pair were 'working route after route' and that there's a 'huge emphasis on the connection between Watson and Cooper.' [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Watson is the superstar quarterback the Browns have been looking for, and Cooper is set to be one of his primary targets on offense. Extra work off to the side is a great thing as the two establish what is hopefully rock solid chemistry. Watson may be suspended this year for part of the season, and a decision on that could happen before the start of training camp. Cooper is a WR2/WR3 for Fantasy GMs with upside this year - depending on when Watson is out there. [TEN - 'Not Content' at WR?](=) Source: Jim Wyatt - TennesseeTitans.com Jim Wyatt, from TennesseeTitans.com, doesn't "think the Titans are content at WR" and he could see "another addition before the season at receiver." [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] The Titans only have around $3 million in cap space at this time, so adding a veteran wide receiver in free agency would likely require making some roster adjustments. Will Fuller, Cole Beasley, and Emmanuel Sanders are some of the names out there the Titans may consider. They have Robert Woods and 2022 first-round pick Treylon Burks as the top two players on the depth chart - and there are question marks (and inexperience) behind those two. We'll see if they add to the position before the start of training camp. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 13. [BAL - RB Justice Hill practicing](=) Source: The Athletic - Jeff Zrebiec Baltimore Ravens RB Justice Hill (Achilles) practiced during organized team activities on Wednesday, May 25. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] The Ravens signed Mike Davis to be the lead back while JK Dobbins and Gus Edwards continue to come back from the knee injuries they suffered last summer. Like Dobbins and Edwards, Hill was injured during the preseason in 2021. We'll see if he can make the 53-man roster as the no.4 back on the depth chart (assuming Dobbins and Edwards are ready to go in September). [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 14. [DAL - Jalen Tolbert on sidelines]( Source: Dallas Morning News - Michael Gehlken Dallas Cowboys WR Jalen Tolbert (undisclosed) worked with the team's director of rehabilitation on the side during practice Wednesday, May 25. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Tolbert rewrote the record book at South Alabama, and the Cowboys liked him enough to snare him in the third round of the 2022 NFL draft. He is a receiver that wins with strength and the ability to time passes at the highest point. Tolbert needs to work on his route-running to be the best pro he can be. The rookie is working to be the no.3 receiver behind CeeDee Lamb and Michael Gallup. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 15. [DAL - WR James Washington in boot]( Source: Dallas Morning News - Michael Gehlken Dallas Cowboys WR James Washington (foot) did not participate in practice Wednesday, May 25, and was wearing a walking boot on his left foot. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] There's no word what the injury is, and there's no injury designation needed during the offseason. Washington signed a one-year deal this offseason with the Cowboys after flashing at times during his four years with the Steelers. With Michael Gallup coming back from a Week 17 ACL injury, Washington could have a larger-than-expected role to start the 2022 regular season. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 16. [TB - WR Russell Gage nursing injury]( Source: BucsWire - Luke Easterling Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Russell Gage (undisclosed) is dealing with an undisclosed injury and is not practicing during organized team activities, head coach Todd Bowles said on Wednesday, May 25. 'Well, he's a little sore right now, so we're resting him,' Bowles revealed. 'We don't need to play him right now. So, when he's here, he's getting his treatment and everything. It shouldn't be anything serious for training camp.' [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Keep an eye on this situation when training camp hits. Gage could be in for a larger role was WR Chris Godwin is coming back from a December ACL injury. He could be the no.2 receiver opposite of WR Mike Evans if Godwin has to miss time at the beginning of the regular season. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 17. [CLE - TE David Njoku close to new deal]() Source: The Cleveland Plain Dealer - Mary Kay Cabot Cleveland Browns TE David Njoku is close to a new deal with the team as they're close on all but the guarantees. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] The Browns placed the franchise tag on Njoku just to give them more time to get a deal done. Everyone seems to be confident that will happen before the July 15th deadline. Njoku is skipping organized team activities until the contract is finalized, but expect him at mandatory minicamp. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 18. [BUF - TE Dawson Knox dealing with injury]( Source: BuffaloBills.com Buffalo Bills TE Dawson Knox (undisclosed) will sit out organized team activities due to an unspecified injury, head coach Sean McDermott said on Tuesday, May 24. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Knox has talent, but some injuries have prevented him from playing up to his full potential. McDermott noted Knox should be fine for training camp, so that's all that matters. Fantasy GMs know what Knox can do when healthy, making him a low-end TE1 with upside in 2022. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 19. [HOU - John Metchie praised by Brandin Cooks](=) Source: Texans Wire - Mark Lane Houston Texans WR John Metchie is getting high praise from fellow WR Brandin Cooks. 'That kid's special,' Cooks said. 'You can just tell it. You know when you talk with someone, you just get that feel about a guy; the way that he goes about his business.' [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Metchie is a seasoned route runner, something you don't see from many rookie receivers when they come into the NFL. Cooks has bounced around the league and played with some of the best in the game. Praise from a guy like him, a talented receiver in his own right, means something. Metchie suffered an ACL injury in the SEC Championship Game last year, but most reports indicate he'll be ready before the start of the regular season. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 20. [JAX - Trevor Lawrence praises WR Christian Kirk](=) Source: JaguarsWire - James Johnson Jacksonville Jaguars WR Christian Kirk and QB Trevor Lawrence have developed a good relationship early on, Lawrence recently stated. '[Kirk is] really talented and we get along really well. Like I said, [we have] similar personalities and demeanors,' Lawrence said. 'He's great. Just from a football IQ sense, I think he's really quarterback friendly.' [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] The Jaguars paid a lot of money to get Kirk (four years, 'up to' $84 million), so GM Trent Baalke must be channeling his inner Grand Moff Tarkin "This had better work." (Sorry, we just watched A New Hope for the 1000th time). Kirk posted career-best numbers in 2021 with the Cardinals, but in the Jaguars offense his numbers might not match what he did last season. He's got flex appeal in most formats. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 21. [TEN - WR Dez Fitzpatrick expecting big role in 2022]( Source: TennesseeTitans.com - Jim Wyatt Tennessee Titans WR Dez Fitzpatrick is expecting to have a big role in 2022 after a disappointing rookie season. '(Last year provided me with) a lot of motivation going forward, from how things started, to how I was able to deal with it,' the 2021 fourth-round pick said. 'I just continued to work my tail off. And I am excited for this year and expecting to have a big role - I am trying to.' [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Fitzpatrick is the forgotten man with the Titans since they added WR Robert Woods via trade and selected WR Treylon Burks in the first round of the 2022 NFL draft. Word is the Titans may not be done adding talent to the position, and adding a veteran free agent would push Fitzpatrick further down the depth chart. The Titans want to run the ball early and often, so there's not much fantasy potential there for Fitzpatrick if he's no.3 or no.4 on the depth chart.
