Let's jump to some NFL News and notes. But first a quick apology. I screwed up in yesterday's email in the Kenyan Drake story in how I referenced Zamir White and Isaiah Spiller. To be super clear, here's how [we're projecting the Raiders and White.]() And here's how we're projecting [Spiller and the Chargers.]() As you probably know, detailed stat projections are the backbone of all we do. Not just generic rankings. And from our [Post Draft Bloom 100](), here are the writeups on both guys. "19(22). Zamir White (RB-LV) - White is basically in line to start next year with the Raiders declining Josh Jacobs' fifth-year option and Kenyan Drake set to be a free agent in 2023. The team made a minor move to jump up four spots for him, so they felt some anxiety about missing out on the power cutter. The team will likely add more backs but don't be surprised if White has a similar role to Damien Harris next year." "25(17). Isaiah Spiller (RB-LAC) - Austin Ekeler isn't going anywhere, but Spiller could still easily lock down the #2/complement job by the end of camp. Ekeler getting goalline carries takes some of the shine off of the role, but it will have big injury upside. The drop into the mid-fourth isn't great for Spiller, but he'll have plenty of opportunity to show his stuff, so if you believe in him, he's still worth the early second he'll cost in rookie drafts." Apologies again for the error. I'd fire the proofreader but unfortunately, that's me. Hope you have an awesome season and thanks for being part of Footballguys. [] 1. [NO - Chris Olave the most NFL-ready WR?](=) Source: MMQB - Peter King New Orleans Saints first-round pick Chris Olave was the most NFL-ready receiver in the NFL Draft, according to multiple general managers. He ran a 40-yard dash under 4.4 seconds, is a tough, precise route-runner and is consistently productive. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Chris Olave has an open depth chart pending the health of Michael Thomas and was considered one of the best route runners of the class. The biggest question with Olave is if he can be a number one receiver in the NFL and tilt a passing game in his direction. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 2. [CLE - RB pick won't impact RB Kareem Hunt]( Source: The Cleveland Plain Dealer - Mary Kay Cabot Cleveland Browns RB Kareem Hunt won't see his workload impacted by 2022 fifth-round pick, RB Jerome Ford, Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com writes. Kay Cabot notes Ford 'was drafted in part to have a quality back in the pipeline' with Hunt set to hit free agency in 2023 and D'Ernest Johnson's future with the team in question. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Ford is a quality three-down back who could thrive with a larger role. He was a pick for the future with both Hunt and Johnson's contracts with the Browns up after this season. Hunt will maintain his workload as the Browns use him as a complementary back to Nick Chubb. Fantasy GMs know the flex appeal of Hunt in his current role. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 3. [NFL - CB Richard Sherman in talks with Amazon](=) Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport Free-agent CB Richard Sherman (Buccaneers) is in talks with Amazon for a key broadcasting role in their programming for this coming season, according to sources. Sherman hasn't ruled out a return to the field, though, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport notes. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Sherman is a no-nonsense guy who could bring a lot to the table in broadcasting. With Amazon getting into broadcasting NFL games, they need to do something to set themselves apart - and hiring a guy like Sherman would do that. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 4. [CHI - TE Cole Kmet to Play Different Roles]( Source: Kevin Fishbain - The Athletic Kevin Fishbain, from The Athletic, reports Chicago Bears offensive coordinator Luke Getsy said TE Cole Kmet will play "different roles" in the team's passing game this season. "I've been very impressed with Cole," Getsy said. "Again that mindset that we're trying to set, he's been a great example of that as well. And you go back to that thing we talked about before, just the ability, the flexibility as a player, I think he has all that stuff. So I'm excited to see him have a bunch of different roles in our offense." [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Kmet was the no.22 fantasy tight end last year in standard-scoring leagues, and Fantasy GMs are looking for his growth and production to increase in his third pro season. He caught 60 passes for 612 yards in 2021, but zero touchdowns certainly stings. We'll see what kind of chemistry he can continue to build with QB Justin Fields in 2022. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 5. [WAS - Early praise for Sam Howell]() Source: NBC Sports Washington - JP Finlay Washington Commanders QB Sam Howell received compliments about his footwork during rookie minicamp from head coach Ron Rivera. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Sam Howell had buzz as a potential Round 1 pick during the pre-draft process. Howell ended up sagging in the draft even more than Malik Willis, Desmond Ridder, and Matt Corral, who all went in Round 3. Howell has a thick build and rushing upside. The first order of business is winning the backup job from incumbent Taylor Heinicke. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 6. [NYJ - Two signed by Jets, two cut]() Source: NewYorkJets.com - Ethan Greenberg Undrafted free-agent WR Calvin Jackson Jr. (Washington State) and free-agent OT Derrick Kelly (Giants) to undisclosed contracts. TE Brandon Dillon and WR DJ Montgomery were waived. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Calvin Jackson didn't do much with the Cougars until 2021. First, he was able to stay healthy - appearing in as many games last year as he had the previous three seasons in Pullman. Second, Jackson was moved from the outside to the slot and that fit his game. Jackson recorded 66 receptions for 978 yards and seven touchdowns in 2021. We'll monitor him in crazy deep dynasty formats. [] 7. [CHI - CHI inks 4 more tryout players]() Source: ESPN.com - Courtney Cronin Updating previous reports, undrafted free agents LB Christian Albright (Ball State), S Jon Alexander (Charlotte), LS Antonio Ortiz (TCU) and RB De'Montre Tuggle (Ohio) were signed to undisclosed contracts by the Chicago Bears on Monday, May 9, after rookie minicamp tryouts. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Tuggle is an interesting player to monitor in crazy deep dynasty formats. He's around 200 pounds but runs a bit bigger than his size. Tuggle is not afraid of contact as a runner, and he will attack his assignment with fervor when pass protecting. We like his footwork, but Tuggle does not have blazing speed and will compete for a practice squad spot in 2022. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 8. [KC - TE Jody Fortson eyeing camp return]( Source: The Kansas City Star - Sam McDowell Kansas City Chiefs TE Jody Fortson (Achilles) has done 'very well' in his rehab from a torn Achilles and anticipates being ready for training camp, according to head coach Andy Reid. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Undrafted out of Valdosta State, Fortson was a player we were interested in but only in super deep dynasty formats. He has a nice athletic profile and can attack a defense as a receiver. Fortson made it through six games last year before suffering this Achilles' injury. We'll see what he can do when training camp rolls around. He will compete for a roster spot with guys like Blake Bell and Noah Gray behind starter Travis Kelce. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 9. [CHI - CHI waives Ledarius Mack, 5 others]( Source: ChicagoBears.com - Larry Mayer Chicago Bears LB Ledarius Mack was waived on Monday, May 9, along with five others, including RB Master Teague, WRs Landon Lenoir and Savon Scarver, LB Jaylan Alexander and S Amari Carter. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Teague is a big-bodied Ohio State runner who could get another shot with a different team. It's not a great sign he couldn't stay with the Bears after being picked up as a UDFA after the 2022 NFL draft - and mandatory minicamp is not yet started. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 10. [TEN - Kyle Philips expected to return punts](=) Source: SI.com - John Glennon Tennessee Titans WR Kyle Philips is expected to provide a big-play threat as a punt returner, according to general manager Jon Robinson. 'He's confident, fields it well,' Robinson said. 'He gets one cut, gets upfield. He is not trying to circle up on the return game and bounce it outside.' [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Philips is a slot-only target in the passing game, but he can be a threat as a return man. He averaged 19.8 yards per return and a couple of scores in his career with the Bruins. Philips has great feet and uses his quickness to create space on underneath routes (70 percent of his catches came within 10 yards of the line of scrimmage). [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 11. [KC - Undrafted Rookie WR Ross 'Can't Be Overthrown']( Source: Nick Baumgardner - The Athletic Nick Baumgardner, from The Athletic, really likes what the Kansas City Chiefs may have acquired in undrafted free agent WR Justyn Ross. A star his first two seasons at Clemson, Ross suffered a spinal injury (2020) followed by a foot injury (2021) which caused his stock to fall. If he was healthy during his college career, there was a chance Ross would've been a top pick. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Stop us if you've heard this before - the Chiefs have loaded up on weapons. Ross is a great find for them if he can regain the form he showed in his early days at Clemson. He posted 17 touchdowns, 112 catches and 1,867 yards receiving in his first two seasons before injuries knocked his career off course. The Chiefs could have a gem of a player here, so keep track of Ross in deeper dynasty formats. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- That'll do it for today, Folks. Thanks for reading and thanks for being part of the Footballguys Family.
