[] 1. [TEN - Decision on RB Derrick Henry's status coming Friday]() Source: TitanInsider.com - Terry McCormick Tennessee Titans RB [Derrick Henry](=) (foot) is progressing well in his recovery and is expected to play in the AFC Divisional Round game versus the Cincinnati Bengals, but head coach Mike Vrabel told reporters that a final decision will not be made on Henry until Friday, Jan. 21. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] The Titans are likely to get Henry back, but there's no need to completely tip their hand to the Bengals. The Divisional Round game on Saturday has the potential to be one of the best games of the weekend, especially if Henry is back out there leading the charge for the Titans. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 2. [TB - RB Ronald Jones back at practice]() Source: The Athletic - Greg Auman Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB [Ronald Jones](=) (ankle) was working with a trainer at practice Thursday, Jan. 20, without a boot. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Jones is back in action but reports indicate that he's not yet cutting on that ankle injury. Leonard Fournette should be able to return from his hamstring injury in the Divisional Round, so Jones may not have much to do if he's available to play on Sunday. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 3. [NYG - NY Giants closing in on new GM]( Source: ESPN.com - Jordan Raanan Buffalo Bills assistant general manager Joe Schoen, Kansas City Chiefs executive director of player personnel Ryan Poles, and San Francisco 49ers 49ers assistant general manager Adam Peters have been identified as the three finalists for the general manager vacancy with the New York Giants, according to ESPN.com's Jordan Raanan. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] The Giants may beat the other teams looking for GMs to the punch. All three of these guys are strong candidates to turn things around in New York. After the GM is hired, we'll see which direction the Giants go in for the head coach. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 4. [MIN - Eliot Wolf meets with Minnesota]( Source: Vikings.com New England Patriots senior consultant Eliot Wolf interviewed for the Minnesota Vikings' general manager vacancy Thursday, Jan. 20. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Wolf has been a consultant with the Patriots for the last couple of years. The son of legendary NFL executive Ron Wolf, Eliot has worked for the Packers and the Browns as well. The Vikings are taking a look at Wolf and so are the Bears for their open GM spot. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 5. [NYG - Brian Flores eyeing NYG opening?]( Source: 1 No Source Former Miami Dolphins head coach Brian Flores has already interviewed with the Chicago Bears and Houston Texans for their head coaching vacancies, but the New York Giants' job would reportedly be 'his first choice,' according to a source. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Flores is arguably the best candidate available in the 2022 coaching search. The Texans seemed like the logical landing spot for him after the Dolphins fired him, but apparently heading to the Big Apple is higher on his list. We'll see if that's going to be the case or if he winds up in Houston (or somewhere else). No matter what, we'll see Flores get a head coaching job in the near future. [] 6. [CAR - Jay Gruden meeting with CAR again](=) Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport Former Jacksonville Jaguars offensive coordinator Jay Gruden is interviewing with the Carolina Panthers for their vacant offensive coordinator spot again Thursday, Jan. 20. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Gruden, a former head coach with Washington, was out of the league in 2021. He was the Jaguars OC in 2020 and seems to be at the top of the list for the Panthers. We'll see if they hire Gruden or bring in more candidates for second interviews. After that, we'll see how the Panthers address their quarterback issue this offseason. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 7. [LAC - WR Mike Williams sticking around?]( Source: Los Angeles Daily News - Gilbert Manzano Los Angeles Chargers WR [Mike Williams](=) 'is a big part of the team' and a player the team is 'happy and grateful that we drafted,' according to interim manager Tom Telesco, who declined to discuss the receiver's pending free agency Thursday, Jan. 20. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] We'll see what happens with Williams when we get closer to the new league year. They're building something special in Los Angeles with young QB Justin Herbert, and Williams is a favorite target. With the right money, he might want to stick around with the Chargers. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 8. [DAL - Mike Zimmer a potential fallback plan for Dallas?]( Source: DallasCowboys.com - Bryan Broaddus Former Minnesota Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer is reportedly a strong candidate to take over as the Dallas Cowboys ' defensive coordinator - a post he held from 2000-06 - if current defensive coordinator Dan Quinn is hired as a head coach by another organization this offseason. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Dan Quinn is one of the hottest - if not the hottest - candidatesto be a head coach with five of the eight teams with open spots interested. When Quinn moves on (Denver?), the Cowboys will have to fill the spot at defensive coordinator. Zimmer didn't get it done as the head coach with the Vikings, but he can run a strong defense and would be a good hire for the Cowboys. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 9. [GB - WR Marquez Valdes-Scantling unlikely to suit up vs. SF](=) Source: The Athletic - Matt Schneidman Green Bay Packers WR [Marquez Valdes-Scantling](=) (back) did not practice for a second consecutive day Thursday, Jan. 20, and will be listed as doubtful on the team's final injury report for the NFC Divisional Round game against the San Francisco 49ers, according to head coach Matt LaFleur. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Without Valdes-Scantling, QB Aaron Rodgers will be without one of his favorite deep targets. The Packers are getting WR Randall Cobb back for the Divisional Round, but he's going to work the underneath routes. Expect WR Davante Adams to get a ton of targets against the 49ers on Saturday. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- That'll do it for today, Folks. Thanks for reading and thanks for being part of the Footballguys Team.
