[DEN - ILB Jerod Mayo drawing interest from Denver](#19) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 1. [MIA - Brian Flores fired](=) Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport Miami Dolphins head coach Brian Flores was fired Monday, Jan. 10. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] This could be the most surprising move on "Black Monday" in the NFL. Flores won 19 games over the last two years, managing through poor quarterback play and uninspired offense. He should immediately be considered for head-coaching vacancies this year, but Flores will no doubt land a defensive coordinator job based on his resume from running the Patriots defense years ago. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 2. [CHI - Chicago cleaning house](=) Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport Chicago Bears head coach Matt Nagy and general manager Ryan Pace were fired Monday, Jan. 10. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] In Nagy's first year as the Bears head coach they went 12-4 and made the playoffs. The last two years have not seen much success at all, and Nagy's bright offensive plans seemed to lack creativity and consistency. The Bears selected QB Justin Fields in the first round of the 2021 NFL draft, and Nagy seemed reluctant to use him the right way. As far as Pace, well, he's the guy who hired Nagy. His most awful move as GM was selecting Mitchell Trubisky over Patrick Mahomes in the 2017 NFL draft. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 3. [MIN - Minnesota cleaning house](=) Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport Minnesota Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer and general manager Rick Spielman were fired Monday, Jan. 10. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Zimmer could not get his defense on track for two seasons, largely due to injuries and ineffectiveness. Couple that with an offense who couldn't overcome their defensive deficiencies and you can see why the Vikings move on from Zimmer after eight seasons. They'll have QB Kirk Cousins for at least one more year as his contract is too big to trade away. We'll see if they hire a more offensive minded head coach who can make the most of the weapons on the roster. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 4. [NYG - NYG has GM opening]() Source: Giants.com New York Giants general manager Dave Gettleman announced his retirement Monday, Jan. 10. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Gettleman leaves before he gets fired. He was one of the worst GMs in the league, and the Giants have become an embarrassment under his guidance with several blunders by him along the way. The Giants are keeping head coach Joe Judge, and hopefully the new GM they hire helps bring them out of the doldrums of recent years. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 5. [SEA - Pete Carroll expects to stay]( Source: ESPN.com - Brady Henderson Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll said he expects to remain head coach for the 2022 season. He's under contract through 2025. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Things change pretty quickly around here. It wasn't that long ago that Carroll seemed to be on the hot seat or perhaps even leaning towards retirement. It also seemed like QB Russell Wilson wasn't going to return in 2022. Now, Carroll and Wilson should stick around for one more season at least. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 6. [KC - WR Tyreek Hill issue not major]( Source: NFL Network - James Palmer Kansas City Chiefs WR [Tyreek Hill](=)'s (heel) injury is not believed to be a large issue heading into the playoffs. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Hill was banged up against the Broncos on Saturday. His heel injury was not helped out by the poor field conditions in Denver. Hill should be good to go against the Steelers in the Wild Card Round. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 7. [CIN - RB Joe Mixon activated]( Source: NFL Network - James Palmer Cincinnati Bengals RB [Joe Mixon](=) was activated from the Reserve/COVID-19 list Monday, Jan. 10. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Mixon will be good to go for the Wild Card Round. He will be a centerpiece of what the Bengals do against the Raiders this weekend. The Raiders made a phenomenal run to the playoffs, but they are weak against the run and a healthy Mixon is big trouble for them. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 8. [MIA - Jim Harbaugh not going to Miami](=) Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport University of Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh will not be the next head coach of the Miami Dolphins, according to Dolphins owner Stephen Ross. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Ross is a big Michigan guy, and he wanted to get Harbaugh in 2011 before he signed with the 49ers. The Dolphins got rid of head coach Brian Flores, and that could indicate they have someone in mind to fill the role. Apparently it's not going to be Harbaugh. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 9. [DET - Anthony Lynn let go](=) Source: Detroit Free Press - Dave Birkett Updating a previous report, Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Anthony Lynn was fired Monday, Jan. 10. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] No surprise here. Lynn was relieved of his play-calling duties towards the end of the season, and the Lions offense responded with head coach Dan Campbell calling the plays. We'll see who the Lions bring in at OC, and then what kind of moves they make to upgrade the quarterback position. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 10. [DEN - Dan Quinn on Denver's radar](=) Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn has reportedly been requested to interview for the Denver Broncos' head coaching vacancy, according to a source. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Quinn might be the top candidate for the Broncos. He's got head coaching experience, connects with the modern player and could be what the Broncos need at the head coach spot after three years of Vic Fangio struggling to connect with his players, struggling to pay attention to the offense and struggling to call timeouts or challenges properly. [NO - QB Taysom Hill out indefinitely]() Source: ESPN.com - Mike Triplett New Orleans Saints QB [Taysom Hill](=) (foot) is expected to need Lisfranc surgery on his injured left foot in the near future and a smaller surgery a few weeks after that to remove the hardware from the first procedure, according to head coach Sean Payton. Per Payton, Hill does not currently have a projected timetable for his recovery. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Hill will be back next season for the Saints provided there are no setbacks in his recovery. The Saints will make a move to upgrade the quarterback room somehow/someway this offseason. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 12. [BAL - QB Lamar Jackson had bone bruise]( Source: NFL.com - Kevin Patra Baltimore Ravens QB [Lamar Jackson](=) (ankle) disclosed that he dealt with a bone bruise in his ankle at the end of the season. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Jackson was injured in Week 14 and couldn't get back from this injury. While Tyler Huntley is a nice backup, he's not on the same level as Jackson. The Ravens were one of the most injured teams in the NFL - even before the season started. Fantasy GMs should feel good about Jackson as a QB1 in 2022. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 13. [CAR - Pep Hamilton sought for CAR interview](=) Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport Houston Texans quarterbacks coach Pep Hamilton is being sought for an interview by the Carolina Panthers for their offensive coordinator position. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] The Panthers fired former OC Joe Brady back in November, and head coach Matt Rhule is on the hot seat in 2022. They need to find the right OC and that might be Hamilton, who was with the Colts during the best years of QB Andrew Luck. In 2021, Hamilton has done a good job of making rookie QB Davis Mills a somewhat effective starter. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 14. [NO - QB Taysom Hill suffered Lisfranc injury]( Source: The Sporting News - Dani Mohr Updating an earlier report, New Orleans Saints QB [Taysom Hill](=) (foot) sustained a Lisfranc injury to his left foot during the team's Week 18 win over the Atlanta Falcons. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] A Lisfranc injury takes time to heal, time that Hill now has since the Saints are not in the playoffs. Who knows what they'll do at the quarterback position in the offseason, but we're certain they look for an upgrade to compete with Hill in training camp. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 15. [NYG - QB Daniel Jones confident about health]() Source: New York Post - Ryan Dunleavy New York Giants QB [Daniel Jones](=) (neck) expects to be fully cleared by the summer, according to Jones via Ryan Dunleavy of the New York Post. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Jones and head coach Joe Judge are getting one more year to prove themselves. The young quarterback has at least flashed a little bit when healthy. The problem is he fails to stay healthy and he doesn't play well enough when he's out there. With his back against the wall in 2022, we'll see what Jones can do to jump-start his career. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 16. [JAX - Nathaniel Hackett to interview with JAX](=) Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport Green Bay Packers offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett will interview for the Jacksonville Jaguars head coaching position this week - likely Friday, Jan. 14. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Hackett is one of the hottest names out there. He's having great success as the offensive coordinator with Aaron Rodgers. However, Hackett did run the offense in Jacksonville when they made a run to the AFC Championship and were one pass away from beating the Patriots and going to the Super Bowl. Having QB Trevor Lawrence to build around is a great attraction for any coach who lands with the Jaguars. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 17. [SEA - WR DK Metcalf facing offseason surgery?]() Source: The Tacoma News Tribune - Gregg Bell Seattle Seahawks WR [DK Metcalf](=) (foot) could undergo surgery during the offseason for a bone spur in his foot, according to head coach Pete Carroll. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Metcalf did not look like himself for much of the 2021 season. The painful foot injury kept him from his second consecutive 1,000-yard season as did QB Russell Wilson missing a few games along the way. After surgery and with no setbacks during rehab, we should see a return to the incredible player we're used to seeing with Metcalf. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 18. [CHI - Leslie Frazier being considered by Chicago]() Source: NFL Network - Tom Pelissero Buffalo Bills defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier has reportedly been requested to interview for the Chicago Bears' head coaching vacancy, according to a source. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Frazier has a ton of NFL experience and was a head coach with the Vikings years ago. The Bears need to find a coach who can connect with QB Justin Fields and Frazier could do that. Frazier could also bring a strong defense to the Bears if hired as the top guy. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 19. [DEN - ILB Jerod Mayo drawing interest from Denver](=) Source: 9News.com - Mike Klis New England Patriots linebackers coach Jerod Mayo has reportedly been requested to interview for the Denver Broncos' head coaching vacancy, according to a source. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] The Broncos have had two defensive minded coaches in a row (Vance Joseph, Vic Fangio) and they have failed spectacularly. However, that's not making them shy away from other defensive minded coaches now that Fangio was fired on Sunday.
