[NFL - Legend John Madden Dies At Age 85]() Source: NFL.com The game of football has lost a legendary figure. Pro Football Hall of Fame coach and legendary broadcaster John Madden died unexpectedly on Tuesday morning, the league announced. He was 85 years old. "On behalf of the entire NFL family, we extend our condolences to Virginia, Mike, Joe and their families," NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said in a statement. "We all know him as the Hall of Fame coach of the Oakland Raiders and broadcaster who worked for every major network, but more than anything, he was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. "Nobody loved football more than Coach. He was football. He was an incredible sounding board to me and so many others. There will never be another John Madden, and we will forever be indebted to him for all he did to make football and the NFL what it is today." [IND - QB Carson Wentz latest to land on COVID list](=) Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport Indianapolis Colts QB [Carson Wentz](=) was placed on the Reserve/COVID-19 list Tuesday, Dec. 28. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] The Colts could turn to Sam Ehlinger if Wentz cannot play in Week 17. There are rumblings that the Colts are considering a phone call for Philip Rivers. While that would be fun to see Rivers in the NFL again, it might not be in the cards. Barkley could latch on as a COVID quarterback with some team marching towards the postseason, but his chances of being more than a clipboard holder are long gone. [SF - QB Trey Lance improving in practice]() Source: ESPN.com - Nick Wagoner San Francisco 49ers QB [Trey Lance](=) has improved with his decision making and accuracy in practice while running the scout team, according to head coach Kyle Shanahan. 'This last month of Trey has been his best consecutive four weeks at practice since we've had him,' Shanahan said. 'He's had a number of good days and he's had some bad days like most guys do, but as far as his consistency and stuff, I feel this last month has been his best.' [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Lance has been struggling with the language of the Shanahan system, but in terms of RPO plays he's been fantastic in practice. We're sure the 49ers will keep things simple for the rookie quarterback. Lance should be a fantasy factor because of his rushing ability, and he could easily finish as a top-10 fantasy quarterback in Week 17. Add him on the waiver wire if he's out there. The Browns have to make a decision on Mayfield's contract which expires after the 2022 season. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Bowles should get another chance to be a head coach in the NFL. The Buccaneers defense has flourished under Bowles, and his plan against the Chiefs in the Super Bowl last year is something every team tries to emulate. There are rumblings that Hackett and Rodgers could be a package deal for a team like the Broncos, but that wouldn't be the case with the Jaguars. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] The new rule in the NFL states you can talk to a head coaching candidate two weeks before the end of the regular season if you have an opening. The Jaguars moved on from Urban Meyer a few weeks ago and have jumped in with two feet. Eberflus has a strong defense and should be one of the hotter names in the NFL coaching carousel. [JAX - Dallas coordinators receiving interest from Jacksonville]() Source: NFL Network - Tom Pelissero Dallas Cowboys offensive coordinator Kellen Moore and defensive coordinator Dan Quinn have received requests from the Jacksonville Jaguars to interview for their head coaching position, according to multiple sources. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Moore and Quinn should both be hot names in the coaching carousel that is about to take off. If a team wants a young, bright offensive mind then Moore is on the list. If a team wants a veteran coach with a good reputation and previous head-coaching experience then Quinn is your guy.
