[NYG - RB Saquon Barkley a limited participant](#18) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 1. [CHI - Justin Fields is now the starter](=) Source: Chicago Tribune - Brad Biggs Chicago Bears QB [Justin Fields](=) was announced the starting quarterback Wednesday, Oct. 6. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Bears coach Matt Nagy has insisted that Andy Dalton would be the starter if he's healthy. They even floated the idea that Nick Foles could start...SMH. Fields is a rookie first-round pick and potentially their franchise quarterback of the future. Getting him as much work as possible is the best idea, so we're happy that Fields gets the nod this week. We'll see if Fields can play better as he gains more pro experience. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 2. [CAR - CB Stephon Gilmore lands in Carolina](=) Source: Panthers.com - Darin Gantt New England Patriots CB Stephon Gilmore was acquired by the Carolina Panthers Wednesday, Oct. 6, in exchange for a sixth-round pick in 2023. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] The Panthers have reshaped their secondary with a couple of moves. They traded the Jagaurs for CB C.J. Henderson last week, and now they trade for Gilmore. He's still on the reserve/PUP list and will have to miss two more games before he can play. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 3. [LVR - RB Peyton Barber out a few weeks](=) Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport Las Vegas Raiders RB [Peyton Barber](=) (toe) is expected to miss a few weeks with a mild case of turf toe, according to sources. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Turf toe is a tough injury to play with and it needs plenty of time to heal. Barber was the team's go-to back with Josh Jacobs banged up. Jacobs is back in action, so Barber was going to be a backup anyway. The Raiders will use Jacobs and Kenyan Drake as their ball-carriers in the backfield. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 4. [CAR - RB Christian McCaffrey back on field]() Source: Panthers.com Carolina Panthers RB [Christian McCaffrey](=) (hamstring) was limited during practice Wednesday, Oct. 6. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] This was the plan for the Panthers. They wanted to see McCaffrey this week and then see how the hamstring responded to more work. We'll know more about his availability in Week 5 on Thursday and more importantly Friday. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 5. [LAR - Nobody busier than WR Cooper Kupp]() Source: ESPN.com Los Angeles Rams WR [Cooper Kupp](=) leads the NFL with 46 targets, and he has been targeted at least 10 times in all four games. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Kupp is on fire this year. Fantasy GMs are thriving with Kupp in the lineup and that's going to continue. Now, if only Robert Woods would get a little more work in the passing game. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 6. [MIA - WR Will Fuller to IR](=) Source: ESPN.com - Cameron Wolfe Miami Dolphins WR [Will Fuller](=) (finger) was placed on the Reserve/Injured list Wednesday, Oct. 6. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Fuller is one of the most talented but oft-injured players in the NFL. He will now be forced out of the next three weeks of action. Fuller is eligible to return in Week 8 against the Bills. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 7. [HOU - Damon Hazelton signed to PS]() Source: SportsTalk 790 - Aaron Wilson Free-agent WR Damon Hazelton was signed to the Houston Texans practice squad Thursday, Oct. 6, according to a source. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] The Texans released Anthony Miller, so they needed more bodies at the position. Hazelton played at Ball State, Virginia Tech and Missouri in college. He's got size but was a bit player in college and struggled with drops. If you play in a crazy deep dynasty league then keep tabs on him. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 8. [WAS - TE Logan Thomas officially on IR]( Source: WashingtonFootball.com Updating a previous report, Washington Football Team TE [Logan Thomas](=) (hamstring) was placed on the Reserve/Injured list Wednesday, Oct. 6. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] The move knocks Thomas out of action for at least the next three games. If he's slated to miss a month, then he could return shortly after that. Washington moves forward with Ricky Seals-Jones as their lead tight end. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 9. [BUF - No practice for WR Cole Beasley](=) Source: BuffaloBills.com Buffalo Bills WR [Cole Beasley](=) (non-injury) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Oct. 6. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Beasley is just getting the day off. That's just normal for the veteran and he should be good to go in Week 5. [TEN - Darrynton Evans may return soon](=) Source: NFL.com Tennessee Titans RB Darrynton Evans (knee) was cleared to practice Wednesday, Oct. 6, and has been designated to return from the Reserve/Injured list. The Titans have 21 days to activate him or keep him on injured reserve. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Evans has talent and could be a change-of-pace back behind Derrick Henry but he's had to battle through injuries. The Titans have Jeremy McNichols as the primary backup to Henry and he's looked good. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 11. [HOU - Nico Collins not ready to return]() Source: SportsTalk 790 - Aaron Wilson Houston Texans WR [Nico Collins](=) (shoulder) is probably a few weeks away from returning to the field, according to head coach David Culley. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] The Texans released Anthony Miller and could benefit from Collins return. He was originally slated to miss 3-4 weeks after he was injured in Week 2. Going into Week 5, the Texans will continue to lean mostly on Brandin Cooks. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 12. [NYG - WR Darius Slayton misses practice]() Source: Giants.com New York Giants WR [Darius Slayton](=) (hamstring) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Oct. 6. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] The Giants WR corps has been banged up recently with both Slayton and Sterling Shepard battling hamstring problems. We'll see what he can do later in the week. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 13. [PIT - Anthony McFarland may return soon]() Source: SportsTalk 790 - Aaron Wilson Pittsburgh Steelers RB Anthony McFarland (undisclosed) was cleared to practice Wednesday, Oct. 6, and has been designated to return from the Reserve/Injured list. The Steelers have 21 days to activate him or keep him on injured reserve. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] The Steelers rushing attack is mostly Najee Harris, and they seem to be featuring him more as a runner. If McFarland gets on the field it would only be as a part-time reserve player. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 14. [WAS - TE Jace Sternberger joining Washington]() Source: ProFootballTalk.com - Josh Alper Seattle Seahawks practice squad TE Jace Sternberger was signed to the Washington Football Team's 53-man roster Wednesday, Oct. 6. Terms of the contract were not disclosed. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Sternberger is athletic and can create mismatches on the field. He didn't do much with the Packers and gets a fresh start with Washington since they put Logan Thomas on Injured Reserve. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 15. [DEN - Jerry Jeudy may play in a few weeks]( Source: NFL Network - James Palmer Denver Broncos WR [Jerry Jeudy](=) (ankle) is making good progress in his recovery and may be available for the Week 7 game. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] The Broncos have been getting by with Tim Patrick and Courtland Sutton as their top two wide receivers. Jeudy's return will be good for the Broncos, but the fantasy value is limited by the number of quality targets they have on the field. We'll see if Jeudy can stay healthy and start playing up to his potential when he returns. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 16. [NYG - WR Kenny Golladay listed as limited]() Source: Giants.com New York Giants WR [Kenny Golladay](=) (groin) was limited during practice Wednesday, Oct. 6. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Golladay has played with and through different injuries this year. He's a strong WR3/flex option against the Cowboys in Week 5. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 17. [NYG - WR Sterling Shepard does not practice]() Source: Giants.com New York Giants WR [Sterling Shepard](=) (hamstring) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Oct. 6. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] It's only Wednesday but this is not a good sign for Shepard. He's been bothered by this injury for some time, and we'll see if he gets out there on Friday. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 18. [NYG - RB Saquon Barkley a limited participant]() Source: Giants.com New York Giants RB [Saquon Barkley](=) (knee) was limited during practice Wednesday, Oct. 6. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] It's Wednesday, and this should be the case for Barkley every week. Against the Cowboys, we like Barkley as a low-end RB1 in Week 5. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- That'll do it for today, Folks. Thanks for reading and thanks for being part of the Footballguys Family.
