[Footballguys Email Updates](=) [Go PRO]() | [View Online]( [Unsubscribe]( | [Sign Up]() [Footballguys.com](=)Daily Email Update • Vol. 23, #156 • Sep. 24th[,](=) 2021 --------------------------------------------------------------- Thanks To Our Sponsor, [TopProp Fantasy Sports]() Howdy {NAME}, Hi Folks, Welcome to Saturday. We've got the News and Notes you need as we head toward the Sunday games. And a small bit of personal news. I hesitate to even share this as it's not important but I also feel a connection to the folks like you who kindly honor us with the gift of your time and read the email. I had been feeling poorly early this week and self-quarantined. My test came back today positive for COVID. I don't feel terrible. On a scale of 1(terrible) to 10(good), I'm about a 5. I was vaccinated months ago. I did wisely cancel the weekly lunch I had scheduled with my 79-year-old dad Wednesday. And canceled a trip where I'd see my 80-year-old aunt. That clearly was the right move. So the takeaway here is: If you're feeling unwell, be careful. I fully expect I'll be fine. I'm super fortunate to have a setup in my house where I can work and live in an area separate from my family. By far my primary concern is my son's wedding is in a couple of weeks and I want to be there. As I said, I hesitate even to even mention it. I'm one of hundreds of thousands. I'm not special. I just sort of feel a weird obligation to be upfront with y'all as while I know you may not really "know" me, I do feel like there's something. And it didn't feel right to have something that big going on for me that I "kept" from you. I know that sounds dumb. All prayers and good vibes are of course welcome. But I'd much rather you send them towards my friend Mike Tagliere of FantasyPros who's had a tremendous struggle with COVID. Rock on, Buddy. Get well soon. And for sure don't worry about the Footballguys content. As you know, I'm just a tiny part of Footballguys. The real stars are the folks we have creating content and waiver wire info and projections and start-sit decisions and all that. I'm just the ringleader at the circus. That and Random Shots Guy. Bottom line, that's where I'm at so if I get a little loopy in this newsletter or don't reply to an email, I've got that going for me. Which is nice... Let's Go. [CAR - WR Robby Anderson targeted just twice in Houston](#18) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 1. [ARI - WR DeAndre Hopkins iffy for Week 3]() Source: AZCardinals.com - Darren Urban Arizona Cardinals WR [DeAndre Hopkins](=) (ribs) will be a game-time decision for Week 3 against the Jacksonville Jaguars, according to head coach Kliff Kingsbury. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Hopkins rarely misses time and he shouldn't be too limited by the injury if he does play. The Cardinals passing game is deeper now and Kyler Murray doesn't need to depend on Hopkins as much as he did last year, but as long as Hopkins is active, you have to play him. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 2. [CAR - What we're expecting for CAR RB Chuba Hubbard](=) Source: ESPN.com Carolina Panthers RB [Chuba Hubbard](=) carried the ball 11 times for 52 yards against the Houston Texans in Week 3. He added three receptions (on five targets) for 27 yards. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Hubbard performed well in relief of Christian McCaffrey and should be the lead back against the Cowboys next week and possibly for a game or more after that. Royce Freeman will be the #2 back. Hubbard is worth a decent chunk of change on the waiver wire the next time your league runs waivers. Our Matt Waldman had this on Hubbard, "Chuba Hubbard is a gap-style back who functions best in an offense that gives him a nice push into one crease with a lead blocker ahead of him or on perimeter plays. When Carolina was successful with these plays, Hubbard showed off his burst, speed, and momentum-based power that makes him stylistically similar to Tevin Coleman. He'll earn targets, but he must improve how to address the ball with his hands when the ball isn't on his body. Hubbard will be tabbed as the player to see most of the work in McCaffrey's absence. Although veteran Royce Freeman isn't as explosive, he's a good hedge due to his receiving skills, power, and more experience and refinement with zone blocking, where Hubbard has ups and downs and remains a work in progress." [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 3. [CLE - WR Odell Beckham Jr. good to go](=) Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport Cleveland Browns WR Odell Beckham Jr. (knee) was removed from the injury report Friday, Sept. 24. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Beckham will play barring a setback in warmups, which might have been what kept him out of Week 1 and Week 2. Make sure you check in Sunday morning before playing Beckham, who is a boom/bust WR3/Flex this week. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 4. [DAL - WR Amari Cooper plans to play Monday night]( Source: The Dallas Morning News - Calvin Watkins Dallas Cowboys WR [Amari Cooper](=) (rib) revealed Friday, Sept. 24, that he has a cracked rib but intends to play in Week 3 against the Philadelphia Eagles. Cooper told reporters the injury is 'getting better every day' and that he will wear a flak jacket after opting against it in Week 2. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] At least it isn't a soft tissue or joint injury in his legs that could be aggravated on Monday night. Cooper is a boom/bust play on Monday night, but it sounds like you can set your lineups with him in them on Sunday morning. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 5. [IND - QB Carson Wentz practicing]( Source: The Athletic - Zak Keefer Indianapolis Colts QB [Carson Wentz](=) (ankles) is practicing Friday, Sept. 24, which makes playing in Week 3 possible. Wentz is moving around fine in individual drills and throwing completely normal, according to beat writer Zak Keefer [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Wentz is a game-time decision. If he plays Sunday it will increase the chances of the Colts not falling to 0-3, but it could also increase the chances of Wentz's recovery time getting longer and his mobility remaining limited, which is crucial to his game. Even though it might be bad for the team in the short term, Wentz sitting this week would be for the best. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 6. [ATL - WR Russell Gage to miss Week 3](=) Source: ESPN.com - Michael Rothstein Atlanta Falcons WR [Russell Gage](=) Jr. (ankle) has been ruled out for Week 3 versus the New York Giants. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Olamide Zaccheaus will move into the starting lineup and Christian Blake will become the #3 receiver, but this pass offense will still run through Calvin Ridley and Kyle Pitts. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 7. [CAR - Jaycee Horn likely out 2-3 months](=) Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport Updating previous reports, Carolina Panthers CB Jaycee Horn (foot) likely has multiple broken bones in the metatarsal area, and surgery is an option. He's likely out two to three months or could miss the rest of the season. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] The Panthers will miss Horn next week against the Cowboys passing game. They haven't faced any top pass offenses yet, so it's not clear whether this defense is going to be a tough out when they aren't playing Jameis Winston or a rookie quarterback. Rashaan Melvin replaced Horn in the starting lineup. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 8. [NFL - WR Josh Gordon cleared by league]() Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter Free-agent WR Josh Gordon was reinstated by the league Friday, Sept. 24. He is eligible to play as soon as Week 4, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Gordon most recently played for Seattle and New England in 2019. We hope he can stay on the good path and catch on with a team soon, but there's no fantasy value to chase here - at least not yet. He is only 30 and still in the viable playing window for a player of his prodigious talent. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 9. [HOU - QB Deshaun Watson not budging](=) Source: ESPN - Ed Werder Houston Texans QB Deshaun Watson remains committed to forcing his exit from Houston and doesn't care how long it takes, according to a source. 'If you're paying him $10 million to sit this year, ' the source said, 'you don't think he would take $30 million and sit next year?' [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Watson's legal issues should be resolved this offseason, which will move this situation forward and likely sharpen trade interest, but if for some reason it was still open-ended at this time next year, then we will end up right back where we are right now. [MIA - Week 3 injury report for Miami](=) Source: MiamiDolphins.com Miami Dolphins QB [Tua Tagovailoa](=) (ribs) did not practice all week and has been ruled out for Week 3 versus the Las Vegas Raiders. OL Jesse Davis (knee), WR [Jakeem Grant](=) (ankle), DE Emmanuel Ogbah (groin), WR [DeVante Parker](=) (shoulder) and WR [Preston Williams](=) (foot) practiced in full Friday, Sept. 24, and no longer appear on the injury report. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Jacoby Brissett will get the start against the Raiders. He didn't look too bad in the shutout loss to the Bills last week, but the team stalled out in the red zone multiple times, not all of which was on Brissett. He's a viable play in 2QB/Superflex leagues. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 11. [CHI - Week 3 injury report for Chicago]( Source: ChicagoBears.com Chicago Bears QB [Andy Dalton](=) (knee) did not practice all week and has been ruled out for Week 3 against the Cleveland Browns. DB Tashaun Gipson (hamstring) did not practice for a second straight day Friday, Sept. 24, and is listed as doubtful. DL Eddie Goldman (knee) also did not practice Friday and is listed as questionable. LB Jeremiah Attaochu (hamstring) and WR [Darnell Mooney](=) (groin) were limited in practice Friday and are also listed as questionable. DL Akiem Hicks (illness, knee), WR [Marquise Goodwin](=) (ankle), S Eddie Jackson (toe) and DL Bilal Nichols (back) practiced in full Friday and are listed as questionable as well. TE [Jimmy Graham](=) (rest) also practiced in full Friday but was not given an injury designation. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Check back on Sunday, but as long as Mooney is playing, consider using him despite the questionable tag. He should be the top deep target for Justin Fields, who has great deep accuracy at times and should be able to benefit from the Browns safeties needing to play 11-on-11 football because of Fields threat as a runner. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 12. [DET - Week 3 injury report for Detroit]( Source: DetroitLions.com - Tim Twentyman Detroit Lions LB Jamie Collins (non-injury) did not practice all week and has been ruled out for Week 3 versus the Baltimore Ravens. LB Trey Flowers (shoulder, knee) also did not practice all week but is listed as questionable. DE Michael Brockers (shoulder), LB Julian Okwara (neck), LB Romeo Okwara (shoulder), WR [Kalif Raymond](=) (thigh), RB D'Andre Swift (groin) and DE Kevin Strong (concussion, thigh) were limited in practice Friday, Sept. 24, and have been removed from the injury report. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Collins might have played his last game for the Lions as the team is trying to find a trade partner for one of the holdovers from the Patricia era. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 13. [PIT - Pittsburgh's Week 3 injury report]() Source: Steelers.com Pittsburgh Steelers WR [Diontae Johnson](=) (knee), LB Alex Highsmith (groin) and DT Carlos Davis (knee) did not practice all week and have been ruled out for Week 3 against the Cincinnati Bengals. LB T.J. Watt (groin) was limited in practice all week and is listed as questionable. QB [Ben Roethlisberger](=) (pectoral), CB Joe Haden (groin), CB Justin Layne (Achilles), TE [Eric Ebron](=) (coaches' decision) and LB Marcus D. Allen (abdomen) practiced in full Friday, Sept. 24, and no longer appear on the injury report. LB Devin Bush (groin) was not given a practice designation Friday but is also expected to play. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] James Washington will move into the starting lineup, but Juju Smith-Schuster is the biggest beneficiary of Johnson's absence. Watt is crucial to the defense, especially with Highsmith out, which will push Melvin Ingram into the starting lineup. Roethlisberger getting off of the injury report is a relief for an offense that is having trouble generating points. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 14. [NYG - Week 3 injury report for NY Giants]() Source: The Miami Herald - Armando Salguero New York Giants LB Cam Brown (hamstring) did not practice all week and has been ruled out for Week 3 versus the Atlanta Falcons. DB Nate Ebner (quad), TE Evan Engram (calf) and WR [Kenny Golladay](=) (hip) remained limited in practice Friday, Sept. 24, and are listed as questionable. RB [Saquon Barkley](=) (knee), DB Logan Ryan (hamstring), TE [Kaden Smith](=) (knee) and WR [Kadarius Toney](=) (ankle) also remained limited in practice Friday but no longer appear on the injury report. DL Austin Johnson (illness) was upgraded to a full practice Friday and has also been removed from the injury report. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Engram and Golladay aren't sure to go, but Golladay is probably more likely to play than Engram. Golladay has a great matchup against Falcons, but since this is the hip that gave him problems last year, the Giants might be conservative about his usage. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 15. [LAC - Week 3 injury report for LA Chargers]() Source: Chargers.com Los Angeles Chargers CB Chris Harris Jr. (shoulder) did not practice all week and has been ruled out for Week 3 against the Kansas City Chiefs. DL Justin Jones (calf) also did not practice all week and is listed as doubtful. LB Joey Bosa (foot, ankle) did not practice all week but is listed as questionable. RB [Austin Ekeler](=) (ankle), OG Matt Feiler (ankle), S Derwin James (toe) and LB Kenneth Murray (ankle) practiced in full Friday, Sept. 24, and have been removed from the injury report. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] The Chargers will miss Harris against the Chiefs high powered passing attack, and they might also be without their best pass rusher and defender if Bosa can't go. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 16. [PHI - Jordan Mailata likely a no-go for MNF]() Source: NFL Network - Mike Garafolo Philadelphia Eagles OT Jordan Mailata (knee) is not expected to play in Week 3 against the Dallas Cowboys, according to Mike Garafolo of NFL Network. OT Andre Dillard is expected to start in his place. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Dillard hasn't played like a first round pick, but he is still probably better than most swing tackles. The Cowboys are missing Demarcus Lawrence, but Randy Gregory will be back from the covid list and first round pick Micah Parsons has been an effective edge rusher. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 17. [KC - Another hamstring injury for DE Frank Clark]() Source: The Athletic - Nate Taylor Kansas City Chiefs DE Frank Clark (hamstring) suffered a hamstring injury to the opposite leg that sidelined him throughout training camp Thursday, Sept. 23, according to head coach Andy Reid. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Clark hasn't been living up to the huge price the Chiefs paid for him in 2020 and again this year. The Chiefs will have to contend with Justin Herbert without their best pass rusher on paper. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 18. [CAR - WR Robby Anderson targeted just twice in Houston](=) Source: ESPN.com Carolina Panthers WR [Robby Anderson](=) had one catch for eight yards on Thursday, Sept. 23, against the Houston Texans. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Anderson catching one pass in Week 1, even though it was a long touchdown, was a harbinger of his value bottoming out. It's curious because the Panthers signed him to a two year extension with over 20 million guaranteed right before the season.
