[CLE - WR Jarvis Landry out at least three weeks](=) Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport Cleveland Browns WR [Jarvis Landry](=) (knee) was placed on the Reserve/Injured list Tuesday, Sept. 21. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Bad news for the Browns here. Landry's knee injury will knock him out for at least three weeks, and Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski said he was "week to week." Donovan Peoples-Jones, Anthony Schwartz, and Rashard Higgins worked as the Browns top three receivers after Landry was banged up in Week 2. Odell Beckham Jr is supposed to make his return to the field this week. We'll monitor Beckham's practice status as the week goes on. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 2. [SF - Jacques Patrick to 49ers]() Source: NFL Network - Tom Pelissero Cincinnati Bengals RB Jacques Patrick was signed off the practice squad by the San Francisco 49ers Tuesday, Sept. 21. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] A Matt Waldman favorite we've been monitoring in crazy deep dynasty leagues...and even XFL leagues (yes, that was a thing). Undrafted out of Florida State in 2019, Patrick began his pro career with the Tampa Bay Vipers in the XFL. He then spent time with the Bengals and now gets called up by the 49ers. He's a big back (234 pounds) but has light feet and doesn't take much time to build up speed and power. With the 49ers RB corps so decimated by injury, Patrick may get a chance to showcase his skill. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 3. [CHI - QB Andy Dalton likely to miss multiple games?]() Source: NFL Network - Tom Pelissero Chicago Bears QB [Andy Dalton](=) (knee) has yet to be ruled out for Week 3 against the Cleveland Browns, but NFL Network's Tom Pelissero is reporting Dalton is considered week-to-week with the knee injury he suffered in Week 2. If Dalton misses time, [Justin Fields](=) is expected to start in his absence. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] The Fields era needs to begin sooner rather than later. The Bears aren't going to go anywhere with a healthy Dalton as their starter. It seems like everyone knew that except for Matt Nagy and the Bears. Fields is a smart field general with rushing ability to boot. His presence could inject some life into this offense we didn't see with Dalton. Yes, the rookie will make some mistakes but we're generally excited about Fields future in the NFL. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 4. [DAL - DAL hopeful on WR Amari Cooper]( Source: The Athletic - Jon Machota Updating previous reports, Dallas Cowboys WR [Amari Cooper](=) (ribs) can 'hopefully get comfortable enough to play' in Week 3, according to owner Jerry Jones. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Rib injuries always come down to a pain tolerance issue. Watch his practice participation during the week, mainly Saturday, as the Cowboys take on the Eagles on Monday Night Football. Cooper could be a game-time decision which is bad news for Fantasy GMs. Cedrick Wilson would get more work if Cooper can't go. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 5. [NYJ - HC explains absence of Denzel Mims]() Source: SNY - Ralph Vacchiano New York Jets WR [Denzel Mims](=) was inactive for the Week 2 game against the New England Patriots because the fifth receiver doesn't play special teams, head coach Robert Saleh explained Monday, Sept. 20. WR [Jeff Smith](=) was the starting gunner, and was up in place of Mims. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Mims is not a great fit in the new Mike LaFleur (Shanahan) offense. Couple that with his inability to play special teams, and you can see why Mims was inactive. Unfortunately, we think it's going to take his next stop before we see what Mims can do as a wide receiver. He's talented, but patience is required with the way things have played out for Mims in year two. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 6. [PIT - QB Ben Roethlisberger dealing with pec injury](=) Source: Steelers Depot - Alex Kozora Pittsburgh Steelers QB [Ben Roethlisberger](=) (pectoral) has a left pectoral injury that will likely affect his practice reps leading up to the Week 3 against the Cincinnati Bengals, according to head coach Mike Tomlin. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Well, that didn't take long. Roethlisberger is not the player he used to be, and getting banged up this early in the season is not a great sign. We'll see him limited or out on Wednesday. On Friday, Roethlisberger will have to be a full participant in practice for us to feel confident recommending him in Week 3. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 7. [HOU - Davis Mills will start]( Source: NFL Network - James Palmer Houston Texans QB [Davis Mills](=) was confirmed the starter for Week 3, and the team will run the same offense in the passing game. The designed runs for QB [Tyrod Taylor](=) (hamstring) will not be utilized. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Mills was seen as a potential quarterback of the future when the Texans selected him in the third round of the 2021 NFL draft. He didn't play much at Stanford due to injury and threw only 18 touchdowns in 14 game appearances (11 starts). Mills has size/athleticism as part of his game, and he throws with touch and anticipation - especially in the middle of the field. Poor footwork as a passer and a bad internal clock when judging the rush are his two biggest problems. With Brandin Cooks the only Texans skill position player you can trust, let's hope Mills keeps feeding the veteran receiver now that he's the starter. [HOU - WR Danny Amendola likely out]() Source: NFL Network - James Palmer Houston Texans WR [Danny Amendola](=) (hamstring) is unlikely to play in Week 3. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Amendola was playing his part as the slot receiver in two games for the Texans but exited the Week 2 game against the Browns with this hamstring injury. It's a short week for the Texans as they play on Thursday night against the Panthers, so it's no surprise the veteran won't play in Week 3. Andre Roberts and Chris Conley will get more work with Amendola and Nico Collins (shoulder) out for the Texans. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 9. [TB - John Hurst back with Tampa Bay]() Source: The Athletic - Greg Auman Free-agent WR John Hurst was signed to the practice squad of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Tuesday, Sept. 21. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Undrafted out of West Georgia in 2020, Hurst spent most of his first season with the Buccaneers. When they released him in October of 2020, the Los Angeles Chargers picked him up but he did not make final cuts last month. He gets a good release off the line of scrimmage and has the speed to attack a defense vertically. We'll monitor him but only in crazy deep dynasty formats. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 10. [JAX - Trevor Lawrence missing the mark]( Source: Pro Football Focus - Sam Monson Jacksonville Jaguars QB [Trevor Lawrence](=) has thrown uncatchable passes on 36 percent of his attempts this season. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Lawrence has the ability and opportunity to be the franchise quarterback for the Jaguars. The offense has generally been unwatchable as Urban Meyer's transition to NFL coaching has not gone smoothly. Lawrence has tremendous upside but the rookie is learning some tough lessons early in his NFL career. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 11. [SEA - WR DK Metcalf expected to be fine]() Source: The Tacoma News Tribune - Gregg Bell Seattle Seahawks WR [DK Metcalf](=) (knee) limped off the field in Week 2 against the Tennessee Titans, but he was able to return and finish up. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Great news for Fantasy GMs here. Head coach Pete Carroll said after the game that the receiver 'banged his knee' or something, and that Metcalf felt fine later. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 12. [NYG - TE Evan Engram on field for workout]() Source: New York Post - Paul Schwartz New York Giants TE Evan Engram (calf) was able to participate in an on-field practice Monday, Sept. 20 in shells, but no full pads. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] The tight end position is brutal in fantasy leagues unless you have Travis Kelce or Darren Waller. There might be Fantasy GMs in need of a return from Engram as he's missed the first two games of the season due to injury. He might be able to practice later in the week and make his regular season debut against the Atlanta Falcons in Week 3. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 13. [GB - TE Jace Sternberger done in Green Bay]() Source: NFL Network - Tom Pelissero Green Bay Packers TE Jace Sternberger was waived Tuesday, Sept. 21. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] A third-round pick in the 2019 NFL draft, Sternberger never played up to his potential with the Packers. Over the last two seasons, Sternberger compiled only 12 receptions for 114 yards and one touchdown. He opened the season with a two-game suspension and now is looking for a new team. If he passes through waivers unclaimed, Sternberger could land on the practice squad. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 14. [HOU - WR Anthony Miller likely to make debut](=) Source: Houston Chronicle - Brooks Kubena Houston Texans WR Anthony Miller (shoulder) is expected to play for the first time this season in Week 3 against the Carolina Panthers, according to Brooks Kubena of the Houston Chronicle. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Getting Miller back will help, even if it's just a little. The Texans will be down Nico Collins and Danny Amendola in Week 3 on Thursday night against the Panthers. We'll see how Miller gets worked into the mix behind Brandin Cooks. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- That'll do it for today, Folks. Thanks for reading and thanks for being part of the Footballguys Family.
