[] 1. [IND - QB Carson Wentz activated](=) Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport Indianapolis Colts QB Carson Wentz was activated from the Reserve/COVID-19 list Thursday, Sept. 2. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Wentz says his foot is feeling good and he seems to be on track to play in Week 1. We'll see how much practice time he can get in over the next week. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 2. [TB - RB Giovani Bernard banged up]() Source: NFL Network - Tom Pelissero Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Giovani Bernard (ankle) was out of practice Thursday, Sept. 2, as he's dealing with a mild high-ankle sprain. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] We'll see how Bernard mixes into the Buccaneers backfield when healthy. He gives them a great receiving option behind Leonard Fournette and Ronald Jones. He's expected to be ready for the season opener. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 3. [WAS - WR Curtis Samuel ramping up]( Source: The Washington Post - Nicki Jhabvala Washington Football Team WR Curtis Samuel (groin) returned to practice Thursday, Sept. 2, and was working on the side. Samuel, though, is expected to be in pads Monday, Sept. 6, and ready to practice with the team, head coach Ron Rivera said. 'We're feeling really confident, and he's had some really good days out there on the side,' Rivera said. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Rivera said he's "very confident" Samuel will play in Week 1 against the Chargers. Samuel has missed all of camp but he's familiar with the playbook from his experience working under OC Scott Turner in Carolina. He's set to be the no.2 receiver for Washington opposite of Terry McLaurin. We'll see if Samuel can get a full week of practice in next week. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 4. [DAL - CeeDee Lamb off COVID list](=) Source: DallasCowboys.com - David Helman Dallas Cowboys WR CeeDee Lamb on Thursday, Sept. 2, was activated off the Reserve/COVID-19 list. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Lamb must've had two negative tests over a 48-hour period to get back this fast. He'll prepare for Week 1 and is a must-start for Fantasy GMs anytime he's out there. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 5. [IND - Indy inks WR Keke Coutee]( Source: SportsTalk 790 - Aaron Wilson Free-agent WR Keke Coutee (Texans) is signing with the Indianapolis Colts Wednesday, Sept. 1, according to a league source. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Coutee can help out the Colts...if he can stay healthy. He's super quick and can make defenders miss in the open field. However, Coutee has struggled to stay healthy during his pro career and has only appeared in 23 games over the last three years. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 6. [JAX - Travis Etienne having surgery](=) Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport Jacksonville Jaguars RB Travis Etienne (foot) will have surgery Thursday, Sept. 2. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] The rookie first-round pick will miss the 2021 season due to this injury. With surgery this early, Etienne should be ready to go by the start of the 2022 season. The Jaguars move forward with James Robinson as their lead back, and Fantays GMs can look at him as a mid-range RB2 this season. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 7. [DAL - Dallas passing on QB Cam Newton](=) Source: USA TODAY Sports - Jori Epstein Free agent QB Cam Newton (Patriots) 'has a ton of football left,' in the opinion of Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarhy, but McCarthy added that 'we're very excited about the (QB) group we have.' [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] The Cowboys were considered the favorite to land Newton after the Patriots released him a few days ago. Now, it seems like they'll be comfortable with Cooper Rush and Will Grier as the backups to Dak Prescott in 2021. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 8. [MIN - QB Sean Mannion to MIN]( Source: Vikings.com Free-agent QB Sean Mannion (Seahawks) agreed to an undisclosed deal with the Minnesota Vikings Thursday, Sept. 2. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Mannion is back with the Vikings as a reserve quarterback. He spent the 2019 and 2020 season with the Vikings and knows the Kubiak system like the back of his hand. [] 9. [LAR - RB Buddy Howell headed to LAR]( Source: Houston Chronicle - Aaron Wilson Free-agent RB Buddy Howell (Texans) is signing with the Los Angeles Rams Wednesday, Sept. 1, according to a league source. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Undrafted out of Florida Atlantic a few years ago, Howell is rarely used as a runner. Instead, his value in the NFL has come on special teams. That's likely why the Rams were interested in signing him. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 10. [PHI - Philly sets up practice squad]( Source: PhiladelphiaEagles.com Free-agent S Grayland Arnold, OG Kayode Awosika, OT Le'Raven Clark, WR Travis Fulgham, WR John Hightower, RB Jordan Howard, RB Jason Huntley, CB Michael Jacquet III, CB Craig James, DE Matt Leo, OG Sua Opeta, C Ross Pierschbacher, S Elijah Riley, LB JaCoby Stevens and DT Raequan Williams were signed to the Philadelphia Eagles practice squad Wednesday, Sept. 1. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Fulgham and Hightower are worth monitoring in deep dynasty formats. The Eagles will continue to develop them on the practice squad and they've got playing experience they can lean on if called up. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 11. [PHI - Three signed to practice squad]() Source: PhiladelphiaEagles.com Free agents TE Nick Eubanks (Cowboys), WR KeeSean Johnson (Cardinals) and DT Marvin Wilson (Browns) on Thursday, Sept. 2, were signed to the Philadelphia Eagles' practice squad. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] It's too soon to give up on Johnson in deep dynasty formats. We'll see if the Eagles are able to get his career on track in ways the Cardinals could not. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 12. [DEN - Still no practice for TE Noah Fant]() Source: Denver7 Sports - Troy Renck Denver Broncos TE Noah Fant (leg) remained out of practice Thursday, Sept. 2, as he deals with an unspecified leg issue. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] We've got another week before the start of the regular season. The Broncos travel to play the Giants in Week 1, and the offense would greatly benefit if Fant is out there. We'll see if he can practice next week. If not, the team could turn to Albert Okwuegbunam and Eric Saubert at the tight end position. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 13. [SEA - Seattle signs 14 to practice squad](=) Source: Seahawks.com - John Boyle Free-agent DT Myles Adams, LB Aaron Donkor, OT Greg Eiland, WR Aaron Fuller, WR Penny Hart, DT Jarrod Hewitt, WR Cade Johnson, RB Josh X. Johnson, OG Pier-Olivier Lestage, TE Tyler Mabry, DL Robert Nkemdiche, CB John Reid, LB Jon Rhattigan and WR Cody Thompson were signed to the Seattle Seahawks practice squad Wednesday, Sept. 1. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] We'll still keep an eye on Penny Hart and Aaron Fuller but only in super deep dynasty formats. Hart is lightning quick and difficult for defenders to grasp in the open field. Fuller has good hands and can be a reliable receiver on third down. Both have talent but must again wait for opportunity. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 14. [DET - Detroit makes changes to practice squad](=) Source: DetroitLions.com Free-agent LB Jessie Lemonier, QB Steven Montez, CB Parnell Motley, TE Jared Pinkney and TE Shane Zylstra were signed to the Detroit Lions practice squad Thursday, Sept. 2. The team also released LB Rashod Berry, DT Miles Brown, TE Alize Mack and RB Dedrick Mills from their practice squad. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Montez is an interesting quarterback to monitor in deep dynasty formats. He's athletic and has the arm strength to make every throw in the NFL. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 15. [JAX - Jacksonville signs 13 to practice squad]( Source: Jaguars.com - John Oehser Free-agent WR Phillip Dorsett, WR Devin Smith, WR Laquon Treadwell, WR Jeff Cotton, WR Josh Hammond, DT Doug Costin, OG KC McDermott, OG Tre'Vour Wallace-Simms, OT Badara Traore, RB Devine Ozigbo, RB Nathan Cottrell, S Brandon Rusnak and CB Lorenzo Burns were signed to the Jacksonville Jaguars practice squad Wednesday, Sept. 1. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] We still appreciate Ozigbo for his hard-nosed rushing style. If he gets a chance to play, Ozigbo could produce at a fantasy relevant level. Now, many things need to happen in order for him to do that...so keep track of him in deep dynasty formats only. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 16. [CAR - Carolina makes changes to practice squad]() Source: Panthers.com - Darin Gantt Free-agent QB James Morgan and WR Aaron Parker were signed the Carolina Panthers practice squad Thursday, Sept. 2. The team also released CB Rashaan Melvin from their practice squad. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Morgan has a rocket arm and can fit passes into tight windows that other can't. He's athletic enough to buy time with his legs, so we'll watch him in deep dynasty formats. He comes over from the Jets to be a reserve QB behind starter Sam Darnold...again. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- That'll do it for today, Folks. Thanks for reading and thanks for being part of the Footballguys Team.
