[NYJ - Zach Wilson carves up Packers](=) Source: ESPN.com New York Jets QB Zach Wilson completed nine of his 11 pass attempts for 128 yards and two touchdowns in a 23-14 preseason win over the Green Bay Packers Saturday, Aug. 21. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Wilson is coming along quickly in preseason play. He is underrated in superflex leagues and could be a hot early season waiver wire add in typical leagues if he has a strong Week 1 against Carolina. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 2. [IND - QB Carson Wentz to return to practice]( Source: Indianapolis Star - Joel A. Erickson Indianapolis Colts QB Carson Wentz (foot) will be a limited participant during practice this week, according to head coach Frank Reich. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] It's not difficult to see Wentz being ready for the opener against Seattle with this timeline in place. He's obviously on the optimistic side of the 5-12 week return to play estimate after his foot surgery. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 3. [NYJ - Michael Carter runs well](=) Source: ESPN.com New York Jets RB Michael Carter rushed 10 times for a team-high 52 yards in a 23-14 preseason win over the Green Bay Packers Saturday, Aug. 21. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] More importantly, Carter wasn't part of the starting running back, instead that honor went to Tevin Coleman and Ty Johnson. The hopes of Carter being the lead back in the committee to open the season are fading. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 4. [CIN - Joseph Ossai to undergo surgery]() Source: NFL Network - Tom Pelissero Cincinnati Bengals DE Joseph Ossai (knee) is scheduled to undergo surgery this week for a meniscus injury that is believed to be season-ending, according to a source. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Ossai had a rousing start to the preseason and appeared to be ready to contribute to the Bengals pass rush right away. He still has a bright future, but this is a bummer for a team that might have found a gem in the third round. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 5. [MIA - Jevon Holland held out Saturday]( Source: The Miami Herald - Daniel Oyefusi Miami Dolphins S Jevon Holland (undisclosed) was held out of the preseason game Saturday, Aug. 21, because he is dealing with an undisclosed injury, according to head coach Brian Flores. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Holland was an early second round pick and expected to play right away in multiple roles in the Dolphins secondary. Without knowing the nature of the injury, it's difficult to project his early season usage. We'll see if the Patriots are able to attack the middle of the field in the passing game in Week 1. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 6. [BUF - WR Stefon Diggs to miss practice]() Source: WGR Sports Radio 550 - Sal Capaccio Buffalo Bills WR Stefon Diggs (knee) will not practice Sunday, Aug. 22, but is making good progress, according to head coach Sean McDermott. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Diggs knee issue isn't too worrisome, but we split hairs when we are making first and second round decisions in our fantasy drafts. It's reasonable to break ties against him as long as he is missing practice. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 7. [GB - Za'Darius Smith uncertain for Week 1](=) Source: ESPN.com - Rob Demovsky Green Bay Packers LB Za'Darius Smith (back) is dealing with a back injury and may not be ready for the Week 1 game, according to head coach Matt LaFleur. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Smith is a key part of the pass rush and Packers defensive resurgence. 2019 first rounder Rashan Gary is coming on and will hopefully ease any blow to the unit if Smith misses the opener vs. the Saints and beyond. [HOU - Nico Collins sits out preseason game]() Source: SportsTalk 790 - Aaron Wilson Houston Texans WR Nico Collins (undisclosed) did not play in the preseason game Saturday, Aug. 21, because of a pulled muscle. Head coach David Culley said the injury is not serious. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Collins has had a great start to his career with the Texans, enough so that he is in the running to start Week 1 against Jacksonville. This injury could end up being the difference between a start in his NFL debut and the Texans being cautious with a potential future #1 receiver. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 9. [SEA - Ben Burr-Kirven sustains knee injury]() Source: The Seattle Times - Bob Condotta Seattle Seahawks LB Ben Burr-Kirven (knee) sustained a serious knee injury during the team's preseason game against the Denver Broncos Saturday, Aug. 21, according to head coach Pete Carroll. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Burr-Kirven was set to be a key backup in a thin linebacker group. The Seahawks may have to reconsider bringing back KJ Wright in light of this injury, but Wright is probably not that interested in coming back as a backup. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 10. [LAR - Raymond Calais likely to require surgery]() Source: RamsWire - Cameron DaSilva Los Angeles Rams RB Raymond Calais (foot, ankle) left the preseason game against the Las Vegas Raiders in the third quarter Saturday, Aug. 21, after sustaining injuries to his ankle and foot. Head coach Sean McVay said he would likely need to undergo surgery. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] The Rams may need to find a new kick returner in the wake of this injury. Calais is a scatback who was set to also contribute to a thinner running back group after Cam Akers went down. Seventh-round pick Jake Funk's chances of making the team are going up. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 11. [LVR - Richie Incognito may be ready for opener](=) Source: The Athletic - Vic Tafur Las Vegas Raiders OG Richie Incognito (calf) is dealing with a strained calf but may be available for the Week 1 game, according to head coach Jon Gruden. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] The Raiders shuffled their offensive line this offseason, but Incognito was one of the holdovers. John Simpson would start if Incognito isn't ready for the opener against the Ravens. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 12. [BAL - ILB L.J. Fort may have serious ACL injury](=) Source: The Athletic - Jeff Zrebiec Updating a previous report, the Baltimore Ravens are concerned that LB L.J. Fort (knee) may have sustained a season-ending injury to his anterior cruciate ligament in the preseason game against the Carolina Panthers Saturday, Aug. 21. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] This was later confirmed. Second year linebacker Malik Harrison will be on the spot now with Fort out for the season. Fort had become a key contributor to the Ravens defense. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 13. [NYG - RB Saquon Barkley to take part in team drills]( Source: NFL.com - Grant Gordon New York Giants RB Saquon Barkley (knee) is expected to participate in team drills during the joint practices with the New England Patriots this week, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Barkley is on track to play in Week 1 vs Denver, but perhaps not his full bell cow back role. If that game goes well, we should see a return to his typical workload in Week 2 against Washington. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- That'll do it for today, Folks. Thanks for reading and thanks for being part of the Footballguys Family.
