[BAL - QB Lamar Jackson tests positive for COVID]( Source: The Associated Press - Noah Trister Updating a previous report, Baltimore Ravens QB Lamar Jackson (illness) tested positive for COVID-19 recently, according to head coach John Harbaugh. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Jackson will have to go into the COVID protocol and will miss time in training camp and the preseason. ESPN's Adam Schefter is reporting the league is "now going through science." While the Ravens are without their franchise quarterback, Trace McSorley and Tyler Huntley are getting more work. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 2. [HOU - QB Deshaun Watson at practice]( Source: NFL Network - Steve Wyche Houston Texans QB Deshaun Watson is participating in practice Wednesday, July 28. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Watson got snaps at safety and running back...and then he got some fourth-string QB reps. Texans coach David Culley said Watson is behind because he missed offseason workouts and needs as many reps as possible. It's just another sign that Watson will never play for the Texans again (most likely) as the NFL continues the investigation into his 22 instances of sexual misconduct. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 3. [GB - WR Davante Adams not interested in hometown discount](=) Source: NFL Network - Andrew Siciliano Green Bay Packers WR Davante Adams rejected the notion that he will resign with the Packers at a discount if Aaron Rodgers remains with the team in 2022. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Adams should not take any sort of discount. He's one of the best, if not THE best, wide receivers in the NFL and should be compensated as such. Rodgers decision to return for the "Last Dance" means Adams may stick around for only one year if the team can't find a way to get a long-term deal done. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 4. [MIA - WR DeVante Parker to PUP]( Source: MiamiDolphins.com Miami Dolphins WR DeVante Parker (undisclosed) was placed on the Physically Unable to Perform list Wednesday, July 28. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] No telling what the issue is here but Parker was out of action for two games in 2020 and was bothered by a hamstring injury for most of the year. The Dolphins made an emphasis on the WR position this offseason, adding Will Fuller in free agency and Jaylen Waddle in the draft. That makes Parker more of a no.3 option for the passing game when healthy. We'll see how this pecking order shakes out in training camp. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 5. [DAL - WR Michael Gallup nursing minor ankle injury]( Source: ESPN.com - Todd Archer Dallas Cowboys WR Michael Gallup (ankle) is not expected to practice Wednesday, July 28, after suffering a 'tweaked' ankle during practice Tuesday, July 27. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Gallup has a ton of talent but he needs to stay healthy and then find a role in the high-powered offense as the Cowboys no.3 receiver. Head coach Mike McCarthy told reporters Wednesday that he didn't believe the ankle issue was going to be a long-term problem. We'll see how long he's out of action in training camp. [SF - Trey Lance's deal is done]() Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter San Francisco 49ers first-round pick QB Trey Lance agreed to a four-year, $34.1 million fully guaranteed contract Wednesday, July 28. All first-rounders receive fifth-year options. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Lance is the future of the 49ers, and that future may happen sooner rather than later. He's a perfect fit for the Shanahan system and can use his legs as a weapon ala rookie Josh Allen or Cam Newton. Jimmy Garropolo seems to be the leader for the starting QB job but a strong performance from Lance in training camp and the preseason could change that. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 7. [NYG - TE Kelvin Benjamin let go]() Source: New York Daily News - Pat Leonard New York Giants TE Kelvin Benjamin was released Wednesday, July 28. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Well, that didn't take long. Benjamin signed earlier this year to be a tight end option for the Giants. Perhaps some other team takes a chance on him but the chances of sticking on a roster is slim. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 8. [LVR - Henry Ruggs III bulked up in offseason]( Source: The Athletic - Tashan Reed Las Vegas Raiders WR Henry Ruggs III told reporters Wednesday, July 28, that he gained about 13 pounds this offseason in an effort to become a more physical player in the passing and running game. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Ruggs has tons of speed to his game, but adding strength will help him beat press coverage. His added strength is unlikely to take away any of his trademark speed. After a rookie season that saw him catch only 26 passes, Ruggs is in for a much larger workload in 2021. Projecting him for 50-plus catches is not outlandish. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 9. [CHI - Cole Kmet likely to take on bigger role]( Source: ESPN.com - Jeff Dickerson Chicago Bears TE Cole Kmet is expected to see an increased role in the offense in 2021, according to comments made by head coach Matt Nagy on Wednesday, July 28. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] It will be interesting to see what Kmet can do in year two. He's got a good all-around ability but the Bears still have Jimmy Graham to steal some touchdowns, and they just picked up Jesse James. Keep Kmet on your dynasty radar and your waiver wire speed dial in redraft leagues. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- That'll do it for today, Folks. Thanks for reading and thanks for being part of the Footballguys Family. We'll see you tomorrow with the Update.
