[] 1. [MIN - TE Irv Smith eyeing TD jump](=) Source: ProFootballTalk.com - Josh Alper Minnesota Vikings TE Irv Smith is no longer sharing time with TE Kyle Rudolph and is expecting a big jump in production. 'I have very high expectations, especially for myself,' Smith said Thursday, July 15 on NFL Network. 'I don't want to put an exact number out there because I don't want to say 'I'm gonna score 15 touchdowns or however many,' but it's gonna be a lot. I'm going to be scoring a lot, making a lot of plays and helping my offense in any way, helping my team.' [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Smith had five receiving touchdowns last year while Rudolph had one for the Vikings. Now, the show is all up to Smith and he's ready for the challenge. We've been waiting for that breakout season from Smith, and 2021 could be the year it all comes together. He should be considered a TE2 with upside, and Fantasy GMs are taking him off the board at TE17 (13.10) in 12-team PPR leagues. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 2. [NE - QB Cam Newton: Time to put up]() Source: ESPN.com - Mike Reiss New England Patriots QB Cam Newton said Thursday, July 15, that the 2021 season is 'put up or shut up' time. 'For me, the Patriots' organization has been impeccable ... my time there has been everything I could have asked for, Newton said during a radio interview. 'I guess it's now time for me to uphold my end of the bargain, through and through.' [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Newton is correct, this is a make-or-break season for him. The Patriots selected Mac Jones in the first round of the 2021 NFL draft to be their quarterback of the future. Newton and Jones will compete for the starting job in camp, and Newton's experience should help him secure that spot. However, if Newton struggles like he did last season then the Patriots will turn things over to the rookie. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 3. [TB - Jaelon Darden could earn small role]( Source: The Athletic - Greg Auman Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Jaelon Darden has 'shown enough playmaking ability' to serve as the fifth or sixth receiver in the offense, according to Greg Auman of The Athletic. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Darden can make big plays happen regularly. He's a smaller prospect (175 pounds) but has quickness and foot speed to make defenders look silly before and after the catch. The fourth-round rookie out of North Texas has speed to destroy angles and has a proven nose for the end zone with a whopping 31 touchdowns over the last two seasons. It's wise for the Buccaneers to give him some plays here and there. [] 4. [TB - WR Justin Watson's spot in jeopardy]( Source: The Athletic - Greg Auman Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Justin Watson is 'squarely on the bubble' heading into training camp, according to Greg Auman of The Athletic. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Watson was a fifth-round pick of the Buccaneers coming out of Pennsylvania in the 2018 NFL draft. He played mostly on special teams last year and has yet done little as a receiver. Watson has a nice size/speed combination but will need to perform well in training camp and the preseason to earn a spot in a deep receiving room behind Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, Antonio Brown, Tyler Johnson and Scotty Miller. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 5. [BUF - QB Ken Dorsey is passing game coordinator]() Source: WGR Sports Radio 550 - Sal Capaccio Buffalo Bills quarterbacks coach Ken Dorsey also will serve as the team's passing game coordinator in 2021, as is now noted in his official team bio. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] This move was not announced but changed on his bio, and it makes sense. Dorsey has been with the Bills since 2019 and has done wonders with QB Josh Allen. With Allen about to be one of the highest-paid quarterbacks in the league, it makes sense to give Dorsey more responsibility.
