[Footballguys Email Updates]( [Go PRO]( | [View Online]( [Unsubscribe]( | [Sign Up]() [Footballguys.com](=)Daily Email Update • Vol. 23, #60 • Jun. 20th[,]( 2021 --------------------------------------------------------------- Thanks To Our Sponsor, [Fantrax](=) Howdy {NAME}, Good Monday to you. I hope you had a sweet Fathers Day weekend. May I be so bold as to get off the football podium for a second and say this about Fathers and Fathers Day? I know lots of people are like myself and fortunate to feel joy around Fathers Day. But I also know that's not the case for everyone. Actually for a lot of people. It seems to me most folks have a Dad situation that falls into one of these boxes. - They have a good Dad that's still here. If that's you, I share joy with you. - They had a good Dad that's no longer here. If that's you, I'm praying for peace and grace for you. I'm fortunate to have my Dad and Step-Dad but I lost my Mom a while back. I can't imagine what that's like losing a Dad. But know I'm with you. - They had a Dad that's no longer here and he wouldn't fall into the description of "A good Dad". If that's you, I'm sorry. I can't explain why some folks land in this spot. But I know it sucks. I'm sorry. If I could encourage you, I'd say break the cycle and do what you can to help the next generation of kids so they don't have to deal with what you did. You can break the cycle. - They have a Dad that's still here but the relationship for whatever reason is strained or broken or maybe even non-existent. If that's you, I'd encourage you to do maybe the toughest thing of all and see if you could be the one that might mend the fences. Fully acknowledging maybe you didn't create or tear up the fences. I don't know your situation but I'm a believer in not giving up on reconciliation. I apologize if that's too bold but it felt like something I needed to say today. Ok. Enough non-football stuff. I'm well aware (and my inbox Monday morning will surely remind me) people want football information from me. Let's jump on that. Today we have a killer feature from our Lauren Carpenter. She asks the question, "Is Alvin Kamara still elite without Drew Brees?" and I like her answer. Plus Drew Davenport continues his Auction goodness and our Cecil Lammey has some News and Notes. Oh, and make sure to check out today's sponsor, our long time friends at [Fantrax](=). They rock. Let's go. [Alvin Kamara Is Still Elite without Drew Brees]( Our Lauren Carpenter dives into the question of, "Is Alvin Kamara still an elite player without Drew Brees?" B. [Mastering the Auction, Part 7: Inflection Points]( Our Drew Davenport continues his Auction Series. In this one, he looks at learning the various points during an auction draft when there is a shift in how to approach the draft. [] INSIDE THIS ISSUE 1. [CIN - RB Joe Mixon poised to pile up TDs?](=) Source: ESPN.com - Bill Barnwell Cincinnati Bengals RB Joe Mixon was on pace for 373 touches in 2020 before suffering a foot injury, and his 21 touches inside the 5-yard line in 2019 were tied for the league lead. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Mixon will be in the best offense of his career this year. If he stays healthy, he'll deliver on his premium ADP, but he hasn't put together a truly elite fantasy season yet. Samaje Perine is the backup if Mixon goes down and he is available for pennies in drafts and dynasty leagues right now. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 2. [ATL - WR Calvin Ridley set for heavy workload?](=) Source: ESPN.com - Bill Barnwell Atlanta Falcons WR Calvin Ridley was targeted on 19.9 percent of his routes when Tennessee Titans WR Julio Jones was also on the field in 2020, and he was targeted on 30.8 percent of his routes when Jones wasn't on the field. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Ridley is definitely in for a boost in volume, but the Falcons didn't have a player like Kyle Pitts when those stats were compiled. We also need to monitor Ridley's recovery from offseason foot surgery before fully buying in at an inflated ADP. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 3. [LAR - CB Jalen Ramsey smothered WRs]( Source: NFL.com - Bucky Brooks Los Angeles Rams CB Jalen Ramsey allowed a total of 32 receptions in 2020 and gave up fewer than 25 receiving yards 11 times. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Ramsey is still a shutdown corner and we should generally expect #1 receivers to underperform expectations any time they face the Rams. Ramsey will likely draw the assignment on Allen Robinson in Week 1. He held Robinson to four catches for 70 yards in their matchup last year. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 4. [NE - Coach happy with RB Damien Harris]() Source: ESPN.com - Mike Reiss New England Patriots RB Damien Harris performed very well during offseason workouts despite being pushed hard by the coaches, according to head coach Bill Belichick. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Harris's upside will be capped if Cam Newton is the starting quarterback for most of the season because Newton will be the first option at the goal line, but if Mac Jones can overtake Newton sooner than later, Harris will have added value. Sony Michel and James White are still around make this a classic Belichick backfield, but Harris is cheap enough that he can be a good pick for teams that don't invest in running back early and do alike. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 5. [CHI - WR Allen Robinson open to playing on tag]( Source: ESPN.com - Jeff Dickerson Chicago Bears WR Allen Robinson said he is open to playing on the one-year franchise tag this season. He said there is no news regarding a long-term contract with the Bears. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] The Bears had to release their best corner and starting left tackle because of cap issues this year, so even though a long term deal would give them instant cap relief, it would also probably create cap issues in upcoming years. Robinson could be playing for his third team in 2022. [MIA - CB Xavien Howard a ballhawk]( Source: NFL.com - Bucky Brooks Miami Dolphins CB Xavien Howard has recorded an NFL-high 22 interceptions since the start of the 2017 season. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Howard is currently in a contract dispute with the Dolphins. They will have to make some concession to him after he outperformed his price tag last year, and there's a small chance that they could consider trading him if a team is willing to give up a first and another premium pick. They did receive calls about him at the trade deadline last year. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 7. [NYJ - S Lamarcus Joyner works at FS]() Source: ESPN.com - Rich Cimini New York Jets S Lamarcus Joyner was used primarily at free safety during the minicamp last week. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Joyner should start next to Marcus Maye and give the Jets a good duo. One year after Jamal Adams was traded away for two first round picks plus, the team is in good shape at his position. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 8. [NFL - PK Stephen Gostkowski may continue career](=) Source: TennesseeTitans.com - Jim Wyatt Free-agent PK Stephen Gostkowski (Titans) is interested in continuing his career. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Look for him to get calls during or at the end of the camp, when teams get a closer look at what exactly they have at kicker. Gostkowski had some rough stretches last year, but some coaches will value his experience if they are playoff contenders. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 9. [NO - Tre'Quan Smith has been working out with QB](=) Source: ESPN.com - Mike Triplett New Orleans Saints WR Tre'Quan Smith has been working out with QB Jameis Winston on a regular basis this offseason. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Smith will start and have a chance to set career highs during his contract year. If Taysom Hill wins the starting job, that's a hit for Smith's fantasy value, but most favor Winston over Hill in competition to some degree. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- That'll do it for today, Folks. Thanks for reading and thanks for being part of the Footballguys Family.
