[CIN - Ja'Marr Chase picking things up quickly]( Source: ProFootballTalk.com - Myles Simmons Cincinnati Bengals first-round pick WR Ja'Marr Chase has made a very positive first impression on his new team, according to comments made by head coach Zac Taylor on Tuesday, June 1.'Ja'Marr has been impressive. He picks it up really quickly. I know there's probably some new terms that are crossover from some old terms he's had that, like any young receiver, it takes a couple days to get adjusted to. But man, he gets lined up quick, he knows what to do, he's got great hands. He's everything we hoped he could be here through just the first couple of practices,' Taylor said. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Chase is known as hyper competitive, so picking up things quickly is just what he's going to do. He's got speed, ball skills and a nose for the end zone which gives him plenty of fantasy upside in his first season. At this time, Chase is going off the board at WR47 (10.05) in 12-team PPR leagues. However, that should rise as we get through training camp. All it will take is a big preseason game...or even a big play in the preseason...to push Chase's draft position up higher. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 2. [WAS - Antonio Gibson still not 100 percent]() Source: The Washington Post - Sam Fortier Washington Football Team RB Antonio Gibson (toe) disclosed to reporters Wednesday, June 2, that he is still rehabbing the toe injury that forced him to miss two games late last season. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Toe injuries can linger...and obviously that's still lingering with Gibson. He should be 100 percent by the time the regular season gets here. Gibson is a fine runner and great receiving option for Washington. Gibson is a RB2 with RB1 upside and can be a weekly starter for your fantasy team. Most are drafting Gibson near the turn, and he's going off the board somewhere between RB10 and RB12 in PPR formats. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 3. [CAR - TE Ian Thomas making an impression]() Source: The Athletic - Joe Person Carolina Panthers TE Ian Thomas has enjoyed a 'tremendous offseason,' according to head coach Matt Rhule. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] That's a good sign for Thomas, but he's always had the natural talent but has yet to put it all together as a pro. Now, the Panthers have Dan Arnold as their top tight end and Thomas is the no.2 at the position. Last year, the Panthers only had 27 receptions (Thomas had 20 of those) at the tight end position. We'll see if Rhule does a better job of emphasizing the position in 2021. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 4. [LAC - WR Mike Williams poised to have big year?]() Source: The Orange County Register - Gilbert Manzano Los Angeles Chargers WR [Mike Williams](=) should post 'nice numbers this year,' according to new offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Williams should have a better season in 2021 as QB Justin Herbert continues to grow as a passer. He's got the size to box out smaller defenders and can win contested catches regularly. Projecting Williams for around 50-55 catches and perhaps a 1,000 yards with 5-7 touchdowns seems logical. Williams has the potential to do more but has yet to put it all together in the pros. He's more of a WR4 with upside for Fantasy GMs. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 5. [GB - More expected from TE Robert Tonyan in 2021?](=) Source: The Athletic - Matt Schneidman Green Bay Packers TE Robert Tonyan is expected to be featured more often in the offense this season, according to recent comments made by head coach Matt LaFleur. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Tonyan was targeted 59 times last year, catching 52 passes for 586 yards and a whopping 11 touchdowns. He finished as the no.3 fantasy tight end last year in standard formats, and with more work or a larger role he could finish this season around that same spot. The 11 touchdowns will be difficult to duplicate, and that was a big part of his fantasy value. However, his role in the offense and trust built with QB Aaron Rodgers is worth trusting as a TE1 for your fantasy team. [CIN - Ja'Marr Chase signs]() Source: NFL Network - Tom Pelissero Cincinnati Bengals first-round pick WR Ja'Marr Chase agreed to terms on a four-year deal with an option for a fifth year. Financial terms weren't disclosed. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Chase has the upside to be a Pro Bowl player one day in the NFL. He's fast, has great body control, a nose for the end zone and he's a tough player who isn't afraid of contested catches. Chase had great chemistry with QB Joe Burrow in college at LSU, and that should carry over to the NFL. He's a no.1 wide receiver and a quick learner. Chase should start Week 1 for the Bengals. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 7. [CHI - Dazz Newsome injury update]() Source: NFL Network - Tom Pelissero Updating a previous report, Chicago Bears sixth-round pick WR Dazz Newsome (shoulder) suffered a broken collarbone in practice Tuesday, June 1. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Newsome is a slot receiver with speed to burn. He's tough after the catch and does a good job snaring contested catches (PFF notes Newsome had 11 catches out of 16 contested catch attempts over the last two years). We like monitoring him in dynasty formats because of his speed and quickness from the slot. Imaging tests revealed a clean break, so the expectation is Newsome will need eight weeks to rest and rehab. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 8. [BAL - Rashod Bateman back at work](=) Source: ESPN.com - Jamison Hensley Baltimore Ravens first-round-pick WR Rashod Bateman (undisclosed) was back at practice Wednesday, June 2, after making an early exit from practice exactly one week earlier for an undisclosed reason. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Good news for the Ravens here. Bateman is a fine route runner and should be able to earn the trust of QB Lamar Jackson quickly. With their run-heavy offense, that will hold back Bateman's fantasy value a bit. Projecting the rookie for about 45 catches this year seems right. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 9. [DAL - TE Blake Jarwin optimistic about camp](=) Source: DallasCowboys.com - David Helman Dallas Cowboys TE Blake Jarwin (knee) did not participate fully in practice during organized team activities last week, but he anticipates being 'ready to roll' on the first day of training camp. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] He's been doing some drills in OTAs but is limited. Jarwin was supposed to be a sleeper tight end in 2020 but hurt his knee in Week 1 and missed the rest of the year. Now, Jarwin will compete with Dalton Schultz to create a pecking order at the position. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- That'll do it for today, Folks. Thanks for reading and thanks for being part of the Footballguys Family.
