[Predicting the NFC West]( We asked the Footballguys Staff how they think the NFC West will end up in 2021. Here's what they said. [] INSIDE THIS ISSUE 1. [DET - D'Andre Swift open to RB Todd Gurley addition](#7) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 1. [GB - GM Will Not Trade QB Aaron Rodgers](=) Source: Matt Schneidman - The Athletic Matt Schneidman, from The Athletic, reports Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst "will not" trade Aaron Rodgers this summer. An important date in the Rodgers saga is coming up this week. Per the report, if the Packers were to trade Rodgers after June 1 they'd free up $16.05 million in cap space this year while shouldering a $21.152 million dead money hit, as opposed to eating a monstrous $38.356 million dead money charge if they traded him before June 2. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] NFL fans and Broncos fans specifically will be on the edge of their seat this week. After June 1 is the best time to trade away Rodgers but the Packers seem to have their heels dug in. Rodgers has been staying away from voluntary workouts, and we'll see if he misses mandatory work coming up in the near future. If things cannot be repaired between the two sides, then trading Rodgers might be on the table. However, we might have to go all the way to training camp (and maybe beyond) for that realization to happen. Stay tuned. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 2. [LAC - Ideal Spot for TE Zach Ertz?]( Source: Mike Kaye - NJ.com Mike Kaye, from NJ.com, speculates that the Los Angeles Chargers would make an "ideal" landing spot for Philadelphia Eagles tight end Zach Ertz. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Ertz is not attending Eagles OTAs and will likely be traded for a late-round pick. The Chargers have Jared Cook and Donald Parham on the roster at the tight position, so adding Ertz would make things a little cramped. Ertz has a 2021 cap hit of $12.7 million and is not the same player he used to be. If not the Chargers, we'll see if another team is willing to trade for the veteran at that number. The Eagles will turn to Dallas Goedert more than ever if (when?) Ertz is traded. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 3. [CIN - Joe Burrow working on deep throws]( Source: SI.com - Albert Breer Cincinnati Bengals QB Joe Burrow (knee) said he refined some things mechanically to help with deep throws in his rehabilitation. He also strengthened his hips to get more behind his throws. 'I just started running and throwing a few weeks ago, so standing and throwing, and focusing on the fundamentals helped,' Burrow said. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Burrow is working on deep throws because the Bengals have some receivers who can flat out fly. Added to the mix this offseason was first-round pick Ja'Marr Chase, a teammate of Burrow's at LSU, and he's got the ability to take the top off the defense regularly. During two seasons with the Bayou Bengals, Chase saw 85.1 percent of his catches go for a first down or a touchdown. These two should make plenty of plays deep in 2021. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 4. [ATL - WR Julio Jones may look for new deal](=) Source: ProFootballTalk.com - Mike Florio Atlanta Falcons WR Julio Jones may ask for a new contract if he is traded to a new team this offseason, according to a source. He currently has three years left on his contract worth $38.326 million. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Any team that trades for Jones is likely going to look for a new deal to make his contract more friendly to the salary cap. Jones is currently signed through the 2023 season. His cap hit in 2021 is around $23 million and there is $40.5 million remaining in dead money. [NO - Team Could Lean on Rushing Attack Early]( Source: Larry Holder - The Athletic Larry Holder, from The Athletic, reports Saints head coach Sean Payton could "lean heavily" on Alvin Kamara and Latavius Murray early in the 2021 season. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] That would make sense. The Saints are going to see if Jameis Winston or Taysom Hill can win the starting job. Gone are the days of letting the offense run through Drew Brees. Instead, it would be wise for Payton to set up his quarterback with a strong emphasis on the ground game. Kamara has a current ADP of RB5 (1.05) and Murray is going off the board at RB40 (9.03) in 12-team PPR leagues. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 6. [DEN - Albert Okwuegbunam making good progress]() Source: Broncos Wire - Jon Heath Denver Broncos TE Albert Okwuegbunam (knee) is making good progress in his recovery from a torn anterior cruciate ligament, according to head coach Vic Fangio. His status for the start of training camp is uncertain at this point. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Okwuegbunam injured his knee around the halfway point of the 2020 season. He may not be himself until that time this year. Don't be surprised if he begins the start of training camp on the PUP list. The Broncos don't have much behind starter Noah Fant at the tight end position, and they could use Okwuegbunam near full strength ASAP. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 7. [DET - D'Andre Swift open to RB Todd Gurley addition]() Source: LionsWire - Jeff Risdon Detroit Lions RB D'Andre Swift said he would be fine with the Lions signing free-agent RB Todd Gurley (Falcons) because Gurley would bring experience and knowledge to the team. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Swift's fantasy value is already complicated because of the addition of "A-back" Jamaal Williams in free agency. He should get a lot of volume in a run-heavy Lions offense, and projecting him for around 1,000 yards rushing makes sense. Adding Gurley to the room would further complicate things and potentially take some work away from him. Swift has a current ADP of RB13 (2.10) in 12-team PPR leagues. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- That'll do it for today, Folks. Thanks for reading and thanks for being part of the Footballguys Family.
