[PHI - TE Zach Ertz not at workouts](=) Source: The Philadelphia Inquirer - Jeff McLane Philadelphia Eagles TE Zach Ertz did not report for the start of offseason workouts Monday, May 17, and is expected to stay away until his situation is resolved, according to a source. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] No surprise here. Ertz might be traded if the Eagles can find a partner willing to pay their requested price (rumored to be a third-round pick). He's a sound veteran but that $12.7 million cap hit is going to be tough to move. Stay tuned. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 2. [SF - WR Marqise Lee to Niners](=) Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport Free-agent WR Marqise Lee (Patriots) agreed to an undisclosed deal with the San Francisco 49ers Monday, May 17. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Lee hasn't played a full season since 2017, but he did enough in his tryout with the 49ers to stick around a bit longer. If healthy, the veteran could easily make the team with his skill set and starting experience. It looks like his deep dynasty stock has a slight uptick. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 3. [PHI - Offense Not a Great Fit for Jalen Hurts?]() Source: Jeff McLane - Philadelphia Inquirer Philadelphia Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni has not installed much in terms of quarterback reads or run/pass options according to what sources tell Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Sirianni has constantly reiterated that Hurts is going to have to compete for the starting job. That's fine coachspeak, but the reality is that Hurts is the best option the team has. Hurts is a great runner and can attack a defense with his legs. It would be wise for Sirianni's playbook to highlight that. In order for Hurts to succeed, the Eagles will have to utilize his running ability while he improves as a passer in the pros. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 4. [DET - Rookie WR St. Brown Being Moved Around the Formation]() Source: Tim Twentyman - DetroitLions.com Detroit Lions rookie wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown has been moving all around the formation during rookie minicamp. He was lining up at the slot position and out wide as the Lions find different ways St. Brown can attack a defense. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Unlike many rookie wide receivers, St. Brown is adept at running the full route tree and in 2020 he was moved outside (293 snaps) more than he was in the slot (116 snaps). However, in previous seasons with the USC Trojans St. Brown was mainly used as a slot receiver. He has a knack for making the first man miss and St. Brown should become a favorite target of QB Jared Goff quickly in training camp and the preseason. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 5. [KC - KC adds Daurice Fountain]( Source: The Kansas City Star - Sam McDowell Free-agent WR Daurice Fountain (Colts) signed with the Kansas City Chiefs Monday, May 17. Terms of the contract were not disclosed. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Fountain must have impressed during his tryout. He has electricity to his game but his pro career has been set back by injuries. In crazy deep dynasty formats we'll monitor him, especially since he's with the Chiefs. [DET - Detroit signs two players](=) Source: DetroitLions.com Free-agent TE Charlie Taumoepeau (49ers) and CB Alex X. Brown (Chiefs) signed with the Detroit Lions Monday, May 17. Terms of the contracts were not disclosed. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Taumoepeau was undrafted out of Portland State in 2020 but signed on with the Cowboys after the draft. During his college career, Taumoepeau finished with 117 receptions for 1,876 yards and 11 touchdowns. He bounced around to the Colts and the 49ers and now gets a shot with the Lions. They needed more bodies at the position with the retirement of Josh Hill, and Taumoepeau impressed enough during his tryout to earn a longer look. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 7. [CIN - WR Trent Taylor to Bengals]() Source: NFL Network - Mike Garafolo Free-agent WR Trent Taylor (49ers) agreed to an undisclosed deal with the Cincinnati Bengals Monday, May 17. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Taylor is a classic slot receiver who is quick on underneath routes. He's battled with injuries during his time with the 49ers and now gets a fresh start with the Bengals. We'll see if he can stay healthy and do enough to earn a spot on the 53-man roster. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 8. [CIN - Seven rookies under contract]() Source: Bengals.com Cincinnati Bengals fourth-round draft choices DE Cameron Sample, DT Tyler Shelvin and OT D'Ante Smith, fifth-round draft choice PK Evan McPherson, sixth-round draft choices C Trey Hill and RB Chris Evans and seventh-round draft choice DE Wyatt Hubert signed four-year contracts with the Bengals Monday, May 17. Financial terms were not disclosed. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Evans is a hard-charging running back from Michigan who is looking to make the roster as a reserve runner. During his college career for the Wolverines, Evans only started six time in 42 games. He seems like a player who could have a better pro career than he did a college one. Evans is patient as a runner and has burst to and through the hole. As a receiver, Evans is a "catch and go" threat and can make defenders miss in space. We'll watch him in deep dynasty formats. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 9. [NYG - Rookie WR Toney Lining up Mostly in the Slot]() Source: Dan Duggan - The Athletic Dan Duggan, from The Athletic, reports Giants first-round WR Kadarius Toney "mostly lined up in the slot and ran shorter routes" during Phase 1 of minicamp. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] That move makes sense for the Giants as Toney is the type of player who can take shorter passes and turn them into long gains. According to Pro Football Focus, during the 2020 season Toney lined up in the slot 505 times and had only 80 snaps where he lined up outside. Toney can be more than a gadget wide receiver if he learns to run the full route tree with more nuance. His athletic gifts are special and he makes defenders look silly after the catch. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 10. [PIT - Rookie Harris says Offense Resembles Alabama]() Source: Nick Farabaugh - SteelersNow.com Pittsburgh Steelers rookie running back Najee Harris says OC Matt Canada's offense is similar to what he worked in during his college days at Alabama. "The inside zones, the outside zones, the power plays, the one-back power, the duo plays, so a lot of what they are doing in their offense resembles a lot of what we did [at Alabama]," said Harris. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] The Steelers need to lean on their rushing attack more, and that's what they should do this season. Harris should work well in the Canada offense just like he shined in Alabama. He thrived as a runner with subtle "make you miss" ability and can be a fine receiving option out of the backfield. Harris has a current ADP of RB34 (7.08) in 12-team PPR leagues, but expect that to rise as the season gets closer and more people realize he's got RB1 potential in this offense. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- That'll do it for today, Folks. Thanks for reading and thanks for being part of the Footballguys Family.
