Looking back on [the email I sent our Footballguys readers one year ago today](=), I vividly remember typing out the words and wanting to be encouraging but also honest. At that time, the NBA season had just been suspended. COVID was clearly here. And the world seemed uncertain. I opened with this a year ago: Calling last week "less than ideal" is like 49er fans saying the 4th quarter of the Super Bowl could have gone better... On the upside, I'm not betting against us this year. (Or the 49ers). Although we've both got work to do. But we're up for it. This country was built on doing hard stuff. And doing the right things. And I have faith we'll do the right things here. It felt like we were starting down a path where we could only see a few feet in front of us. I was mostly right about that. (Although I probably should have bet against the 49ers...) I talked about this new term, "social distancing" and sticking together and being kind. And I asked how we could best serve folks. I ended the email with this: This will likely be difficult. But it's back to #1: We're all in this together. This could get uglier. There will be a bunch of bull####. The way we get through it is loving your Neighbor and sticking together. And Spoiler Alert - We're all Neighbors. So be intentional. You may not be shaking hands. But you can message people all day long. Check on people. Encourage people. Be that person that texts just to say you were thinking of them. Or send a stupid GIF or meme. I know it sounds goofy. Trust me, it's not goofy. Much love for you. Twelve months later, we can see the light at the end of the tunnel. But those positive things I talked about still apply.
