[DAL - CB Brandon Carr a priority for Dallas] --------------------------------------------------------------- 1. [ATL - Dan Quinn confident in Alex Mack] Source: ESPN.com - Vaughn McClure Atlanta Falcons C Alex Mack (leg) will be dealing with pain during Super Bowl 51, according to head coach Dan Quinn, but Quinn said he 'felt good' about how Mack handled playing at full speed during practice this week. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Quinn should project optimism, but all of that could go out of the window the first time Mack is tested. His level of play is one of the key x factors of Super Bowl LI. [Back to Top] --------------------------------------------------------------- 2. [NE - TE Rob Gronkowski wants a long career] Source: CSNNE.com - Phil Perry New England Patriots TE [Rob Gronkowski] said he plans on playing as long as he can even though he has dealt with multiple injuries during his career. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Some have wondered if Gronkowski's latest back ailment will result in him losing something he won't get back. He'll turn 28 in May and has defied these kinds of worries before, but it might be time to get out in dynasty leagues if you have another strong option at tight end. On the other hand, if you have always coveted Gronk, this is about as low as his value is going to get for a bit unless he has trouble getting back on the field. [Back to Top] --------------------------------------------------------------- 3. [MIN - RB Adrian Peterson's future being analyzed] Source: St. Paul Pioneer Press - Chris Tomasson Minnesota Vikings RB [Adrian Peterson]'s future with the team won't be decided until some 'tough analysis' is performed, according to president Mark Wilf. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] The team could attempt to keep Peterson at cheaper than his 18 million dollar price tag, or trade him to a team that will give him more favorable terms than Minnesota. One thing is clear, Peterson won't get a six million dollar roster bonus on March 11. He's just not worth that plus his 12 million dollar salary and workout bonus in his age 32 season. He could pick his team if he wants to force the Vikings hand by not reworking his deal for them or a potential trade partner. [Back to Top] --------------------------------------------------------------- 4. [ATL - QB Matt Ryan will be paid] Source: ESPN.com - Vaughn McClure Atlanta Falcons QB [Matt Ryan] will be 'compensated well' for his performance this season, according to owner Arthur Blank, and Blank said he expects Ryan to lead the franchise for a long time. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Ryan may get his turn as the highest paid player in league history as a quarterback on the verge of a new deal in the next year or two. He would be a free agent in 2019, but that ain't happening. [Back to Top] --------------------------------------------------------------- 5. [MIA - QB Ryan Tannehill's knee 'stable'] Source: The Miami Herald - Armando Salguero Miami Dolphins QB [Ryan Tannehill] (knee) has reportedly considered stem cell and platelet rich plasma injections on his injured ACL, but a source close to Tannehill though the Miami Herald this week the quarterback's knee is stable. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] If Tannehill is looking at alternative treatments and he has no return to play timetable to stick to right now, there's a possibility the knee isn't healing as hoped. If surgery is still in play, Tannehill and the Dolphins are playing with fire by putting it off. [Back to Top] --------------------------------------------------------------- 6. [NYJ - NYJ 'seem' to have eyes on QB Mike Glennon] Source: NJ Advance Media - Connor Hughes Impending free-agent QB [Mike Glennon] may be the most likely candidate to fill the New York Jets' need at quarterback, according to NJ Advance Media's Connor Hughes. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Glennon was actually excellent by rookie standards back in 2013, and he has a better resume than Brock Osweiler because his success was earlier in his career. Osweiler got 37 million guaranteed, but his failure will give teams pause when paying Glennon. He should get an incentive and playing-time bonus laden deal somewhere along with a chance to compete to start. The Jets aren't going to be one of the most attractive destinations for a quarterback so a second-tier option like Glennon makes sense. [Back to Top] --------------------------------------------------------------- 7. [BUF - QB Tyrod Taylor focused on rehab] Source: The Buffalo News - Jay Skurski Buffalo Bills QB [Tyrod Taylor] (groin) said he is focusing on recovering from his core muscle surgery and is not worrying about his contract situation. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Taylor is unlikely to get his 30+ million guaranteed dollars if the Bills exercise their option to keep him by March 11, but he could stay on a restructured deal. Either way, he should be a starter somewhere in 2017, even if only as a bridge to a first-round quarterback. [Back to Top] --------------------------------------------------------------- 8. [NE - Dante Scarnecchia plans to return] Source: WEEI.com - Christopher Price New England Patriots offensive line coach Dante Scarnecchia said he plans to return in 2017 even though he will be 69 years old. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Scarnecchia rehabilitated an offensive line that failed due to injuries as the season went on in 2015. This year, he has made the line a strength again and turned Marcus Cannon into one of the better tackles in the league. [Back to Top] --------------------------------------------------------------- 9. [HOU - PK Nick Novak hopes to re-sign] Source: Houston Chronicle - Aaron Wilson Houston Texans impending free-agent PK Nick Novak said he hopes to re-sign with the Texans this offseason. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Novak was among the top five in made field goals and the Texans combination of poor quarterback play and good defense should keep Novak or whoever replaces him among the most relevant fantasy kickers. [Back to Top] --------------------------------------------------------------- 10. [WAS - Torrian Gray joins Redskins staff] Source: ESPN - Adam Caplan The Washington Redskins have hired University of Florida assistant coach Torrian Gray as their defensive backs coach. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Gray was a Virginia Tech player and long-time coach for the Hokies and now he's with one of the closest NFL franchises geographically to Blacksburg [Back to Top] --------------------------------------------------------------- 11. [DET - Jace Billingsley to compete for roster spot] Source: ESPN.com - Michael Rothstein Detroit Lions WR Jace Billingsley will compete for the slot receiver job as well as a returner job during training camp next season. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Billingsley has a path to make the roster as a returner, as a slot receiver, or as a backup WR/RB tweener to Theo Riddick. There are probably three spots up for grabs in the teams receiving corps next season. [Back to Top] --------------------------------------------------------------- 12. [DET - WR T.J. Jones not lock for roster] Source: ESPN.com - Michael Rothstein Detroit Lions WR [T.J. Jones] is not a lock for the roster next season and will have to compete for a roster spot during training camp. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Jones didn't make the final cut in 2016, in part because of Anquan Boldin, so if Boldin doesn't come back, his chances of surviving to the final 53 goes up. Jones is only turning 25 in July, so his best football is still ahead of him. If the Lions release him, he might get picked up before the season. [Back to Top] --------------------------------------------------------------- 13. [JAX - Jags think injury affected Jermey Parnell's play] Source: ESPN.com - Mike DiRocco The Jacksonville Jaguars believe that OT Jermey Parnell (groin) struggled at right tackle this season because of a lingering groin injury. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Parnell was supposed to be part of a rebuilding of the power running game in Jacksonville, but the engine rarely turned over for Chris Ivory and TJ Yeldon. This is at least an alibi for Parnell and reason to hope for improvement next season. [Back to Top] --------------------------------------------------------------- 14. [JAX - Johnathan Cyprien may test market] Source: ESPN.com - Mike DiRocco Jacksonville Jaguars impending free-agent SS Johnathan Cyprien probably will be allowed to test the free-agent market this offseason, but the Jaguars may be interested in re-signing him, in the opinion of ESPN.com's Mike DiRocco. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Cyprien improved this year and had a role more tailored for his in the box game, but he still hasn't become the player the Jaguars envisioned when they took him in the second round in 2013. If someone overpays him, the Jaguars won't mind letting him walk, but they probably haven't totally foreclosed bringing him back at the right price. [Back to Top] --------------------------------------------------------------- 15. [BUF - RB LeSean McCoy thinks he is top RB in NFL] Source: ESPN.com - Mike Rodak Buffalo Bills RB [LeSean McCoy] said he believes he is the best running back in the NFL if he is healthy. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] McCoy was certainly one of the five or six best fantasy running backs and NFL running backs this year, but he is not quite at the level of LeVeon Bell or David Johnson. Still, he has surprised us with his second act in Buffalo and he should still be drafted as a low RB1 no matter who the quarterback is for Buffalo next year. [Back to Top] --------------------------------------------------------------- 16. [KC - John Dorsey, Andy Reid to be offered extensions] Source: The Kansas City Star - Terez A. Paylor The Kansas City Chiefs will attempt to extend the contracts of general manager John Dorsey and head coach Andy Reid this offseason, according to team chairman Clark Hunt, who said he was 'very satisfied' with the job they have been doing. Both men are entering the final year of their deals. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] They turned around a losing franchise and have made them a consistent, which is more than good enough even though they haven't broken the strangehold that Brady, Roethlisberger and previously Manning help on Super Bowl berths in the AFC. [Back to Top] --------------------------------------------------------------- 17. [KC - KC interested in QB Tony Romo?] Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport The Kansas City Chiefs are one team that could be interested in acquiring Dallas Cowboys QB [Tony Romo] this offseason, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. The team is reportedly looking to upgrade the quarterback position after losing in the second round of the playoffs for the second consecutive year. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Alex Smith was partially to blame for the loss and he is known for his lack of aggressiveness, but so was the team's meeker approach on offense under Andy Reid. Romo could add more derring-do, but if Reid doesn't change significantly, the results could be the same no matter who the quarterback is. [Back to Top] --------------------------------------------------------------- 18. [SF - Mark Uyeyama not retained] Source: CSNBayArea.com - Matt Maiocco The San Francisco 49ers have decided not to retain the services of Mark Uyeyama, who served nine seasons on the team's strength and conditioning staff, according to multiple league sources. He spent the last two years as the club's director of human performance. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Uyeyama oversaw a good run of injuries not affecting the team as much during the Harbaugh years, but the last few years have been brutal in terms of lost games. Kyle Shanahan will likely be wanting to bring in his own choices from top to bottom. [Back to Top] --------------------------------------------------------------- 19. [ARI - No QB Tony Romo for Arizona] Source: The Dallas Morning News Dallas Cowboys QB [Tony Romo] is unlikely to be pursued by the Arizona Cardinals, according to head coach Bruce Arians. 'I wish Tony all the best; I doubt he'll be a Cardinal,' Arians said. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Romo would fit in Arizona, but it looks like Carson Palmer will be back. Arizona is still a viable first-round quarterback destination in the draft. [Back to Top] --------------------------------------------------------------- 20. [CIN - WR A.J. Green lobbies for Andrew Whitworth] Source: Bengals.com - Geoff Hobson Cincinnati Bengals WR [A.J. Green] said one player the Bengals 'can't lose' is impending free-agent OT Andrew Whitworth. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] The Bengals would make Andy Dalton's job a lot harder if they have to turn to 2015 draft picks Jake Fisher or Cedric Ogbuehi. The Bengals aren't known to break the bank in free agency, so this could get interesting if Whitworth is looking for a payday. Green's fantasy owners should obviously root for Whitworth to return. [Back to Top] --------------------------------------------------------------- 21. [PHI - QB Carson Wentz ready for more] Source: Philadelphia Daily News - Paul Domowitch Philadelphia Eagles QB [Carson Wentz] said he is 'excited' to have quarterbacks coach John DeFilippo back in 2017 and expects the continuity to lead to more growth. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] The Eagles blocked DeFilippo from interviewing with the Jets for their offensive coordinator job, so they clearly value the continuity he brings to Wentz's development. DeFilippo helped get Derek Carr's career off of the right foot in Oakland, so there's reason to value him. [Back to Top] --------------------------------------------------------------- 22. [NYJ - Deshaun Watson talks up NYJ] Source: New York Post - Zach Braziller Clemson QB Deshaun Watson said he 'wouldn't mind' playing for the New York Jets, and Watson believes he has improved enough as a pocket passer to succeed in the NFL. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] The New York market takes a big personality, so Watson should know what he is inviting here. The Jets will be players in the intriguing free agent quarterback market, which could affect their decision at #6 with 2-3 quarterbacks in play. [Back to Top] --------------------------------------------------------------- 23. [ARI - ILB Daryl Washington not likely to return] Source: The Arizona Republic - Kent Somers Arizona Cardinals LB Daryl Washington is unlikely to return to the team in 2017, according to a team source, even if he is reinstated. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Washington should be picked up in deep dynasty IDP leagues as he could have value this year, but it sounds like it won't be in the role he flourished in previously in Arizona. [Back to Top] --------------------------------------------------------------- 24. [DAL - CB Brandon Carr a priority for Dallas] Source: ESPNDallas.com - Todd Archer Dallas Cowboys impending free-agent CB Brandon Carr should be the team's top priority this offseason, according to beat writer Todd Archer. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] The Cowboys will have both starting corners entering free agency. Morris Claiborne is younger, but Carr has been more durable. The Cowboys have a lot of players entering free agency and will have to make some hard choices in addition to being resourceful when evaluating other team's free agents.
