[KC - QB Patrick Mahomes enters concussion protocol]( Source: The Kansas City Star - Sam McDowell Updating previous reports, Kansas City Chiefs QB [Patrick Mahomes](=) (concussion, toe) was placed in the league's concussion protocol Monday, Jan. 18. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Mahomes will have to go through the protocol before he's cleared to play in the AFC Championship Game. He's likely to be ready to go, but it may take until the end of the week before he can even get a limited practice in. Stay tuned, and also keep track of the toe problem that seemed to slow down Mahomes in the game against the Browns. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 2. [BUF - Brian Daboll staying put]() Source: Houston Chronicle - Aaron Wilson Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator Brian Daboll is expected to remain in his current post after losing out to Brandon Staley for the head coaching job with the Los Angeles Chargers, according to multiple sources. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Daboll was considered the front-runner for the Chargers job but they hired Brandon Staley instead. With Daboll staying put, that's got to be considered good news for QB Josh Allen and the Bills offense. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 3. [NO - QB Drew Brees doesn't reveal plans](=) Source: ESPN.com - Mike Triplett Updating a previous report, New Orleans Saints QB [Drew Brees](=) did not officially announce his retirement following the team's loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday, Jan. 17, instead indicating he'd take 'an opportunity to think about the season' and make his decision later. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Jay Glazer had reported on Sunday that Brees was going to retire when the Saints season was done. They lost to the Buccaneers in the Divisional Round which means Brees may be retiring later this year. He'll take some time to come to a decision but things appear like he's leaning towards hanging his cleats up. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 4. [PHI - Josh McDaniels the favorite in Philly?](=) Source: ESPN.com - Jeremy Fowler New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels is believed to be 'a prime candidate' to fill the Philadelphia Eagles' head coaching vacancy, according to multiple sources. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] McDaniels could be the lead man for the Eagles, and he would get full control of the roster in a GM-like way...just like he did with the Broncos years ago. That was a decade ago when McDaniels was just too inexperienced to be a head coach. We'll see if he does a better job when given a second chance to prove himself at that position. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 5. [TB - WR Antonio Brown having MRI](=) Source: ESPN.com - Jenna Laine Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR [Antonio Brown](=) (knee) is having an MRI on his knee Monday, Jan. 18. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] We'll know more about Brown's injury as the week of practice goes on. His injury in the Divisional Round against the Saints opened up the door for more playing time for guys like Tyler Johnson and Scotty Miller. If Brown can't play in the NFC Championship Game, then Johnson and Miller will continue to get more work. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 6. [KC - Eric Bieniemy to interview with HOU](=) Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy will do a virtual interview with the Houston Texans for its head coaching vacancy Monday, Jan. 18. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] It might be too little too late for the Texans. Bieniemy was one of the recommendations that QB Deshaun Watson made for the team and they did not initially show interest in the Chiefs OC. We'll see if they make a move to hire Bieniemy now in order to patch things up with the disgruntled Watson. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 7. [NFL - Justin Fields entering draft](=) Source: Twitter Ohio State QB Justin Fields will enter the 2021 NFL draft. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Fields is likely to be a top-5 pick in the 2021 NFL draft. He's a dynamic runner and can make defenders pay with his legs. Fields does a good job as a passer and showed the ability with the Buckeyes to throw well on the run. He has the potential to be a franchise quarterback and will have quite a few teams interested in his services. [Sign Up Now](=) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 8. [CLE - QB Baker Mayfield viewed as long-term QB]( Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport Cleveland Browns QB [Baker Mayfield](=) could be approached about a contract extension during the offseason, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, who said that the team is now 'all in' and believes that Mayfield is their 'franchise quarterback.' Rapoport also added that there is 'no rush' on the extension with Mayfield under team control for the next two seasons if the club exercises its fifth-year option. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] The Browns have to make a decision on Mayfield's fifth-year option this offseason. That will keep him under contract for the next two seasons if implemented and give them time to find a good price tag for a long-term deal. Mayfield could get a contract that makes him one of the highest-paid quarterbacks in the NFL. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 9. [SEA - Seattle talks with Adam Gase about OC job](=) Source: ESPN.com - Jeremy Fowler Former New York Jets head coach Adam Gase recently spoke with the Seattle Seahawks in regards to their offensive coordinator vacancy, according to a source. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] That's an ....interesting... interview considering Gase's failures on offense when he was head coach with the Jets. It's also interesting to note safety Jamal Adams, who left Gase and the Jets with great joy to join the Seahawks. We shall see what happens with the open OC job in Seattle. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 10. [GB - AJ Dillon iffy for conference championship?](=) Source: The Athletic - Matt Schneidman Green Bay Packers RB AJ Dillon (thigh) is expected to practice at some point this week, but head coach Matt LaFleur is 'still waiting to see' whether or not he'll be ready to play in the NFC Championship game versus the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.'We'll see where he's at. We've been off the last two days, so I have not seen him. We'll kind of play it through and we'll see where he's at, but we're hopeful that he'll be ready to go,' LaFleur said Monday, Jan. 18. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Dillon, the rookie from Boston College, is used by the Packers as a battering ram to wear down defenses. If he's out in the NFCC then the Packers can just feed Jamaal Williams more as a power option behind starter Aaron Jones. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 11. [CLE - WR Odell Beckham Jr. unlikely to get traded](=) Source: ClevelandBrowns.com Cleveland Browns WR [Odell Beckham](=) Jr. (knee) received a strong indication from head coach Kevin Stefanski on Monday, Jan. 18, that he will not be traded as he continues to recover from his torn anterior cruciate ligament.'I texted with him this morning. I know he's working really hard to get better in his rehab. I'm excited to get him back here.,' Stefanski said of Beckham during a virtual interview on Monday. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Will they or won't they move on from Beckham? He's under contract through the 2023 season, and Beckham is on the books with a $15.7 million cap hit in 2021. There's still $12.7 million remaining in dead money and then two seasons (2022, 2023) with zero dead money. Beckham had knee surgery in early November, so he should be ready to go by the start of the 2021 regular season. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 12. [NO - New Orleans adds 13 on futures deals](=) Source: NFLCommunications.com Free-agent DTs Ryan Glasgow and Christian Ringo, WRs Lil'Jordan Humphrey and Jake Lampman, LBs Andrew Dowell and Chase Hansen, TEs Garrett Griffin and Ethan Wolf, DB Grant Haley, RB [Tony Jones](=), QB Trevor Siemian, OT Calvin Throckmorton and DE Marcus Willoughby signed Reserve/Future contracts with the New Orleans Saints on Monday, Jan. 18. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Jones is a hard-charging runner who has a no-nonsense rushing style. He's talented enough to keep track of in deep dynasty formats. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 13. [BAL - Eleven agree to futures deals with Baltimore](=) Source: BaltimoreRavens.com - Ryan Mink Free-agent DTs Aaron Crawford and Braxton Hoyett, QB [Tyler Huntley](=), LB Aaron Adeoye, WR Jaylon Moore, LS [Nick Moore](=), DE Chauncey Rivers, DB Nigel Warrior, DB Chris Westry, RB Ty'Son Williams and TE Eli Wolf signed Reserve/Future contracts with the Baltimore Ravens on Monday, Jan. 18. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Huntley was thrust into action against the Bills in the Divisional Round and he didn't look overwhelmed. We'll continue to monitor his progress in the NFL but only in deep dynasty formats. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- That'll do it for today, Folks.
