[GB - WR Jordy Nelson does not practice] Source: Packers.com Green Bay Packers WR [Jordy Nelson] (ribs) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Jan. 11. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] This is the injury to watch. Nelson may not be able to play in the Divisional Round due to this ribs injury. Check back to see if he can practice on Friday. [Back to Top] --------------------------------------------------------------- 2. [BUF - Sean McDermott to be Bills head coach] Source: CBSSports.com - Jason La Canfora Carolina Panthers defensive coordinator Sean McDermott has agreed to become the Buffalo Bills new head coach. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] A defensive minded coach, McDermott is set to change the Bills to a 4-3 defense. He's never been a head coach in his career, and it will be interesting to see how he builds the offense. Mike McCoy may be added as the team's offensive coordinator, but we have no idea who the QB will be next year. [Back to Top] --------------------------------------------------------------- 3. [DEN - Denver hires Vance Joseph] Source: DenverBroncos.com - Andrew Mason Miami Dolphins defensive coordinator Vance Joseph was officially named the new head coach for the Denver Broncos Wednesday, Jan. 11. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Joseph was a hot name in coaching circles, and he takes over a Broncos team that may only need some slight changes to get back into a Super Bowl window. He's known as a strong leader and talent evaluator, and Joseph will have to work with strong personalities...especially on the defensive side...in Denver. A defensive coach, his biggest challenge will come on the offensive side of the ball. Joseph has to figure out how to get the most of 2016 first-round pick QB Paxton Lynch. [Back to Top] --------------------------------------------------------------- 4. [PIT - QB Ben Roethlisberger to practice] Source: ESPN.com - Jeremy Fowler Pittsburgh Steelers QB [Ben Roethlisberger] (foot) was walking without a limp Wednesday, Jan. 11, and he's expected to have a full week of practice. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] He doesn't have to do much until perhaps on Friday when he could be asked to do more. Head coach Mike Tomlin said the team would monitor Roethlisberger's foot closely. [Back to Top] --------------------------------------------------------------- 5. [DAL - RB Ezekiel Elliott is fine] Source: DallasCowboys.com - David Helman Updating an earlier report, Dallas Cowboys RB [Ezekiel Elliott] is fine after his 'minor fender bender' Wednesday, Jan. 11, according to head coach Jason Garrett. Elliott was at practice 20 minutes after the accident. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Cowboys fans can breathe a sigh of relief here. We're glad nobody was seriously injured. [Back to Top] --------------------------------------------------------------- 6. [SEA - RB Marcel Reece not on injury report] Source: ESPN - Adam Caplan Seattle Seahawks FS [Marcel Reece] (foot) fully participated in practice Wednesday, Jan. 11, and is not on the injury report for the Divisional Round playoff game. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Reece has the versatility to help the offense as a blocker, runner or receiver. They'll need all the help they can get on the road against the Falcons this weekend. [Back to Top] --------------------------------------------------------------- 7. [SEA - WR Paul Richardson practices Wednesday] Source: Seahawks.com Seattle Seahawks WR [Paul Richardson] (foot) fully participated in practice Wednesday, Jan. 11. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Richardson has dynamic athleticism and could be in line for a larger role again this week. Fully participating today is a good sign for his availability in the Divisional Round. [Back to Top] --------------------------------------------------------------- 8. [KC - RB Spencer Ware practices in full] Source: Chiefs.com Kansas City Chiefs RB [Spencer Ware] (rib) fully participated in practice Wednesday, Jan. 11. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Ware should have a big role the Chiefs on Sunday. They can play defense against the Steelers high-powered offense by keeping them cold on the sideline if the Chiefs can run the ball effectively. [Back to Top] --------------------------------------------------------------- 9. [NE - Full practice for WR Danny Amendola] Source: Patriots.com New England Patriots WR [Danny Amendola] (ankle) fully participated in practice Wednesday, Jan. 11. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] It looks like Amendola will be ready to go against the Texans this week in the Divisional Round. He may not do much, but it will be just another weapon at the disposal of QB Tom Brady. [Back to Top] --------------------------------------------------------------- 10. [NE - WR Malcolm Mitchell limited] Source: Patriots.com New England Patriots WR [Malcolm Mitchell] (knee) was limited during practice Wednesday, Jan. 11. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Check back on Friday to see if Mitchell can practice later in the week. That will help determine whether or not the talented rookie WR will be available for the Divisional Round game against the Texans. [Back to Top] --------------------------------------------------------------- 11. [PIT - TE Ladarius Green misses practice] Source: Steelers.com Pittsburgh Steelers TE [Ladarius Green] (concussion) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Jan. 11. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Green's status is a complete unknown, but we'd be surprised if he plays against the Chiefs on Sunday in the Divisional Round. Check back later in the week to see if Green is cleared and actually travels with the team to Kansas City. [Back to Top] --------------------------------------------------------------- 12. [DEN - Mike McCoy a OC candidate for Denver] Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter Former San Diego Chargers head coach [Mike McCoy] is scheduled to interview for the Denver Broncos offensive coordinator position Thursday, Jan. 12, according to sources. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] McCoy was the OC with the Broncos from 2009-2012. He's known for his versatile offensive mind, and that could come into play with a Broncos offense that was often morose. McCoy would likely be able to get the most out of first-round QB Paxton Lynch. [Back to Top] --------------------------------------------------------------- 13. [DEN - Denver to talk with Bill Musgrave] Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter Former Oakland Raiders offensive coordinator Bill Musgrave is scheduled to interview for the Denver Broncos offensive coordinator position Thursday, Jan. 12, according to sources. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Musgrave was a backup quarterback with the Broncos, and he grew up in the Rocky Mountain region. With Vance Joseph hired as their new head coach, the Broncos will have to find the right coach to help run the offense. [Back to Top] --------------------------------------------------------------- 14. [MIA - QB Ryan Tannehill may need surgery] Source: The Miami Herald - Adam H. Beasley Miami Dolphins head coach Adam Gase did not rule out the possibility of QB [Ryan Tannehill] (knee) undergoing major knee surgery during the offseason. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] The Dolphins are going to monitor Tannehill closely. Even though he was very limited in practice last week, it might be better for him to go under the knife and spend the offseason recovering. Gase said the trainers are still evaluating Tannehill's injury. [Back to Top] --------------------------------------------------------------- 15. [HOU - WR Jaelen Strong undergoes surgery] Source: Houston Chronicle - Aaron Wilson Houston Texans WR [Jaelen Strong] (ankle) underwent surgery last month but should be ready for offseason workouts. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Strong has been buried on the depth chart with the Texans selecting two WRs in the 2016 NFL draft (Braxton Miller, Will Fuller). He needs to get healthy, stay healthy and impress next year to get his career on track. In two years, Strong has played in 18 games catches 28 passes for 292 yards and three touchdowns. [Back to Top] --------------------------------------------------------------- 16. [MIA - QB Ryan Tannehill still being evaluated] Source: NFL.com - Ian Rapoport Miami Dolphins QB [Ryan Tannehill] (knee) is still 'going through the process' of having his knee evaluated to determine whether surgery is the proper course of action, according to Dolphins head coach Adam Gase. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] This shouldn't set off alarms for fantasy owners. They're just looking further into his injury to make sure there are no setbacks. [Back to Top] --------------------------------------------------------------- 17. [DAL - QB Tony Romo leads NFL in cap burden] Source: USA TODAY Fantasy Sports Dallas Cowboys QB [Tony Romo] will have the highest individual salary cap charge in the NFL entering the 2017 fiscal year. He is set to count $24.7 million against Dallas' cap next season, according to Spotrac.com. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Just another reason why we don't think Romo is back with the Cowboys in 2017. Dallas currently has the least amount of projected cap space in 2017. It is widely believed Romo will be traded, which almost certainly would lead to a restructuring of his current deal. [Back to Top] --------------------------------------------------------------- 18. [BAL - Could WR Steve Smith return?] Source: ESPN.com - Jamison Hensley Recently retired Baltimore Ravens WR [Steve Smith] isn't being ruled out for a return in 2017, according to Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti. 'I haven't given up hope that (he) is going to come walking in here in September,' Bisciotti said. 'We'll see about that character. I wouldn't count him out.' [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Never say never in the NFL. Smith has a fire that burns hot, and he'll likely miss the grind of the league. He retired to spend more time with his family, and that may be what keeps him from returning. Either way, it's been a great run for Smith and we expect to see him in Canton some day. [Back to Top] --------------------------------------------------------------- 19. [CAR - RB Jonathan Stewart a possible cut?] Source: ESPN.com - David Newton Carolina Panthers RB [Jonathan Stewart] could be a possible cut in the offseason, in the opinion of beat writer David Newton. The move would save the team $6.25 million with a post-June 1 designation. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] The language of the NFL is money, so a move away from Stewart wouldn't be a surprise given his price tag. He hasn't had a 1,000-yard season since 2009, and he hasn't played a full 16-game season since 2011. Stewart has missed three games each of the last three years. Oh yeah...this is an incredibly strong draft class at the running back position. [Back to Top] --------------------------------------------------------------- 20. [PHI - DE Connor Barwin would accept pay cut] Source: CSNPhilly.com - Dave Zangaro Philadelphia Eagles LB Connor Barwin said he'd accept a pay cut to remain with the Eagles. Barwin has an $8.35 million cap hit for 2017, and cutting him would save $7.75 million. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] The writing is on the wall with Barwin, and he knows it. Barwin has 12 sacks over the last two years with the Eagles after compiling 14.5 sacks in 2014. If he stays with the team, it will be at a reduced price. [Back to Top] --------------------------------------------------------------- 21. [BAL - OLB Terrell Suggs expected to return in '17] Source: ESPN.com - Jamison Hensley Baltimore Ravens LB Terrell Suggs is expected to return for the 2017 season, according to general manager Ozzie Newsome. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Suggs can still get it done in the NFL. He had eight sacks this year in 15 games with the Ravens, bringing his career total to 113.5. A top-10 pick in the 2003 NFL draft, Suggs has been a cornerstone of the Ravens ferocious defense for years. He's got a cap hit of $6.9 million each of the next two seasons. [Back to Top] --------------------------------------------------------------- 22. [DET - WR Marvin Jones unhappy with season] Source: Detroit Free Press - Dave Birkett Detroit Lions WR [Marvin Jones] was disappointed with how his season turned out, admitting, 'In terms of my standards, it wasn't good at all.' He added, 'When you look at how I started, you wouldn't think it would end this way.' [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Fantasy owners are unhappy with the way the season went for Jones after such a hot start. Replacing Calvin Johnson as the WR1 for the Lions, Jones exploding onto the scene with over 400 yards receiving in the first four games of the year -- including a monster 205 yard, two TD performance against the Packers in Week 3. Jones didn't have a 100-yard game after that, finishing the season with 55 catches, 930 yards and four TDs. We'll see if he can improve his consistency in 2017.
