[CLE - RB Nick Chubb in concussion protocol]() Source: ESPN - Jake Trotter Cleveland Browns RB Nick Chubb (concussion) was placed in the league's concussion protocol Tuesday, Aug. 18. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Chubb will be in the protocol for a few days, but he'll be ready to go for the start of the regular season. He has no known concussions to this point of his pro career. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 2. [CHI - QB Mitchell Trubisky praised by teammate]( Source: ESPN.com - Jeff Dickerson Chicago Bears QB Mitchell Trubisky drew compliments from teammate WR/RB Cordarrelle Patterson Tuesday, Aug. 18, for his demeanor at training camp. 'The way he's handling things. I feel he's been more of a leader,' Patterson said. 'Last year I didn't feel like he was that guy, but this year he's taking over. He wants everybody to know that he's that guy and we can come to him when we need something. He's doing a helluva job with it.' [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Trubisky is trying to prove he should stay the starter for the Bears in training camp. He's competing with veteran Nick Foles for that job and it should be his job to lose. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 3. [PHI - PHI looking to get creative with RB Miles Sanders]( Source: NBC Sports Philadelphia - Reuben Frank Philadelphia Eagles RB Miles Sanders is expected to see a more expanded role in the passing game in 2020, including an addition in the kind of routes he runs and where he lines up.'I do believe Miles has the ability to do that. He's somebody that we've said, 'Hey, you know, you're our guy going into this season.' Definitely want to increase what he can do for us, and if that means using him out of the backfield a little bit more in empty situations, we want to do that and see where he can grow and get better and help us. I do think that skill-set is conducive, not only to him, but obviously matchups and things of that nature from a defensive standpoint,' head coach Doug Pederson said. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] This is the best news Fantasy GMs could hear about Sanders. The team has a fine talent with Sanders and they need to be creative in the way he gets used to get the most out of his potential. Fantasy players are already excited about Sanders as he has a current ADP of RB8 (1.10) in 12-team PPR leagues. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 4. [CIN - Tee Higgins working on side](=) Source: Bengals.com - Geoff Hobson Cincinnati Bengals WR Tee Higgins (hamstring) is doing individual drills Tuesday, Aug. 18, due to hamstring issues. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] No need to rush the rookie out there. He's a big-bodied rookie who wins at the catch point. Higgins reminds us of Broncos WR Courtland Sutton and has similar upside when he develops as a pro. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 5. [PIT - Teammate talks up Chase Claypool]() Source: ProFootballTalk.com - Josh Alper Pittsburgh Steelers WR Chase Claypool has made 'a couple plays' against CB Joe Haden in training camp that has left the veteran cornerback believing the rookie will 'be a problem' for opponents down the road.'He's had a couple plays against me this camp. I've lined up against him often. He's a big, fast receiver who's able to adjust to the ball in the air. He hasn't shown me anything too bad. . . . As long as he keeps healthy, I think he's going to be a problem,' Haden told the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Claypool has a big body and can make plays with his leaping ability and wingspan. He has a basketball background and knows how to box out smaller defenders. Claypool is a mismatch due to his size and could become a go-to red-zone target for QB Ben Roethlisberger. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 6. [NYJ - Big expectations for TE Chris Herndon]() Source: New York Daily News - Charles McDonald New York Jets TE Chris Herndon was praised by head coach Adam Gase after practice on Sunday, Aug. 17. 'He's our starting tight end,' the coach said. 'He plays both in-line and he plays off the ball.' [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Herndon has to stay healthy in order to play up to his potential. Fantasy GMs have considered Herndon a deep sleeper before only to see him get suspended, then banged up and barely play (18 snaps in 2019). He's not getting drafted right now in 12-team PPR leagues, but keep Herndon on your waiver wire speed dial just in case they unleash him on offense in 2020. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 7. [TEN - WR Corey Davis eases back into action](=) Source: TennesseeTitans.com - Jim Wyatt Tennessee Titans WR Corey Davis (toe) was on the practice field Monday, Aug. 17, for the first time in training camp after being activated from the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list earlier in the day. Davis reportedly looked good running, according to beat writer Jim Wyatt, but he did not get many targets. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] That sounds about right. Davis could look good, and he'll get plenty of one-on-one coverage opposite of A.J. Brown. However, Davis may not produce much as the Titans are a run-first, run-often offense so Fantasy GMs have better options out there. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 8. [TEN - RB Derrick Henry leaves practice early](=) Source: TennesseeTitans.com - Jim Wyatt Tennessee Titans RB Derrick Henry left practice early Monday, Aug. 17, leaving the field with a trainer before working on a stationary bike while his teammates finished up the session. Head coach Mike Vrabel didn't provide any specifics after practice. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Keep an eye on this situation. It sounds minor and the Titans will be cautious with Henry (of course) as he's the centerpiece of what they do on offense. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 9. [DET - D'Andre Swift impressing in passing game]() Source: DetroitLions.com - Tim Twentyman Detroit Lions RB D'Andre Swift 'could earn himself a bigger role in the passing game' based in his play early in training camp, according to Tim Twentyman of DetroitLions.com Tuesday, Aug. 18. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Swift was arguably the best running back in the 2020 NFL draft. He's quite capable as a runner and can make defenders look silly as a receiver out of the backfield. Swift is competing with Kerryon Johnson to be the Lions featured back in 2020. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 10. [LAR - WR Josh Reynolds operating as No. 3 receiver]( Source: TheRams.com - J.B. Long Los Angeles Rams WR Josh Reynolds has been the 'steady' third wide receiver at training camp, according to team play-by-play announcer J.B. Long. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] That sounds about right. He's next up behind Robert Woods and Cooper Kupp on the depth chart. Reynolds will have to hold off 2020 second-round pick Van Jefferson in training camp and it sounds like the veteran is doing that so far. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- FOOTBALLGUYS PICKS Crush Your League - Let the Footballguys Staff of more than 50 experts guide your draft, waivers, and starting lineup decisions. [Crush your competition with a subscription here](=). --------------------------------------------------------------- Practice Mock Drafting - Practice makes perfect with the Footballguys Draft Dominator app powered by 50+ staffers of Footballguys. [Check it out here](. --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 11. [NE - WR Damiere Byrd flashing]( Source: NBC Sports Boston - Tom E. Curran New England Patriots WR Damiere Byrd is the one consistently flashing in practice, according to beat writer Tom E. Curran. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Byrd played three seasons with the Carolina Panthers...with Cam Newton as his quarterback. That chemistry is showing up in practice early on. This is something to monitor during the rest of camp as Byrd is set to be the team's deep threat in 2020. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 12. [BAL - Four try out for Baltimore]( Source: MMQB - Albert Breer Undrafted free-agent QB Kenji Bahar (Monmouth) and free-agent WRs [Dez Bryant](=) (Saints) and Dwayne Harris (Raiders), along with free-agent P Johnny Townsend (Giants) tried out for the Baltimore Ravens Tuesday, Aug. 18. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Bryant is the player that gets the most attention here. The veteran has been out of the league since tearing his Achilles' with the Saints last year. Bryant would bring much-needed veteran depth to the Ravens WR corps. Harris would as well, but he would likely be a return man primarily if signed. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 13. [CLE - JoJo Natson gets golden chance]() Source: ClevelandBrowns.com - Andrew Gribble Cleveland Browns WR JoJo Natson saw snaps with the first-team offense in practice Monday, Aug. 17, with WR Jarvis Landry sidelined. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Natson is a tiny gadget player who should contribute mostly as a return man if he makes the 53-man roster. There's not much fantasy value there unless injuries strike ahead of him on the depth chart in the regular season. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 14. [CHI - Likely torn ACL for CB Artie Burns](=) Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport Updating a previous report, Chicago Bears CB Artie Burns (knee) suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in practice Tuesday, Aug. 18, according to a source. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Tough break for Burns and the Bears. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 15. [SF - WR Dante Pettis seizing opportunity](=) Source: NBC Sports Bay Area - Matt Maiocco San Francisco 49ers WR Dante Pettis is impressing at practice by making catches in traffic over the middle as he competes for a roster spot in 2020, according to Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Pettis has always had the talent but he had yet to find consistency to his game and some thought he was in the coach's doghouse. This year with injuries and WRs opting out for the 49ers, Pettis is making a positive impression. Rookie Brandon Aiyuk should be the 49ers top receiver and Pettis is trying to establish himself in the pecking order somewhere behind him (and Deebo Samuel when healthy). [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 16. [HOU - WR Kenny Stills practices on Monday]( Source: Houston Chronicle - Aaron Wilson Houston Texans WR Kenny Stills (undisclosed) participated in his first practice of training camp Monday, Aug. 17. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Keep an eye on Stills and consider him late in your drafts. The Texans have Brandin Cooks and Will Fuller ahead of him on the depth chart, but both of those guys are known to get banged up. Stills could emerge as a fantasy flex option if the cards fall his way. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 17. [HOU - RB Duke Johnson comfortable with club]() Source: HoustonTexans.com Houston Texans RB Duke Johnson said Monday, Aug. 17, that he is comfortable in the system after his first full offseason with the team. 'I'm much more comfortable. It's kind of night and day for me,' Johnson said. 'My expectations for myself is just make my plays whenever the opportunity presents itself.' [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] We'd be more comfortable if the Texans actually used Duke Johnson the right way. They made a move to add David Johnson, and he should be the lead back with Duke backing him up. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 18. [NYJ - WR Jamison Crowder understands his role]() Source: New York Daily News - Charles McDonald New York Jets WR Jamison Crowder said Monday, Aug. 17 that he doesn't feel like he's the 'top dog' entering training camp, but he is easily the most productive receiver on the roster from last season. 'I just know my role,' Crowder said. 'That's a valuable option for (QB Sam Darnold) in the slot.' [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Crowder is the security blanket for Darnold, and he's got plenty of fantasy value in his role. He's got chemistry with Darnold and can be considered a deep flex play for Fantasy GMs in PPR formats. Crowder has a current ADP of WR44 (10.01) in 12-team PPR leagues. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 19. [TEN - Darrynton Evans struggles with fumbling](=) Source: TennesseeTitans.com - Jim Wyatt Tennessee Titans RB Darrynton Evans was better in practice Monday, Aug. 17, according to beat writer Jim Wyatt after fumbling twice in practice Sunday, Aug. 16. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Evans is an exciting rookie who will play as a reserve behind Derrick Henry in 2020. He's got to get control of the rock before he's trusted as a change-of-pace back on offense. Monitor his progress as training camp rolls on, especially if you're considering Evans a handcuff (in deeper leagues) to Henry. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- That'll do it for today, Folks. Thanks for reading and thanks for being part of the Footballguys Family.
