[CIN - Brandon Allen, Tristan Vizcaino sign](#10) 11. [CLE - TE David Njoku no longer seeking trade](#11) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 1. [DET - QB Matthew Stafford on COVID list](=) Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport Detroit Lions QB [Matthew Stafford](=) was placed on the Reserve/COVID-19 list Saturday, Aug. 1. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Stafford becomes the first quarterback in the NFL to land on this list. The COVID-19/Reserve list is designated for players who test positive for COVID-19 or have been in contact with someone who has the virus. We'll now see Stafford quarantined for a couple of weeks and then re-tested before he can get to practice with the team. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 2. [NYJ - ILB C.J. Mosley opting out of season]( Source: ESPN.com - Rich Cimini New York Jets LB C.J. Mosley (groin) on Saturday, Aug. 1, announced he will opt out of the 2020 season due to family health concerns, according to sources. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] A significant blow to a Jets defense already missing Jamal Adams. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 3. [MIA - QB Ryan Fitzpatrick: I'm a placeholder]() Source: ESPN.com - Cameron Wolfe Miami Dolphins QB [Ryan Fitzpatrick](=) says he fully realizes his time as the team's starter is limited with first-round draft pick Tua Tagovailoa getting a green light for workouts. 'I don't know how much time it will be before Tua will be in the lineup. I know that I am the placeholder,' Fitzpatrick said in a recent interview with ESPN. 'We've already had that conversation. I've told him, 'I'm going to do the best I can to lead this team and win football games when I'm out there.' Whenever it is that Tua gets his chance whether it's early or late or whenever, I'm going to be his biggest cheerleader.' [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Fitzpatrick knows what's up. The veteran is there to steer the ship until rookie first-round QB Tua Tagovailoa is ready. The Dolphins are going to have a competition for the starting job in training camp and Tagovailoa has already been cleared for full participation. We could see the rookie win the job in camp and begin the regular season as the starter. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 4. [NYG - NYG claims Tony Brown]() Source: Giants.com Former Cleveland Browns WR Tony Brown was claimed off waivers by the New York Giants Saturday, Aug. 1. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Brown was picked up as a UDFA out of Colorado after the 2020 NFL draft. He doesn't win with speed but he has strength and guile to his game. We'll see if he can impress enough to earn a spot on the practice squad. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 5. [NE - WR Marqise Lee opting out](=) Source: The Boston Globe - Jim McBride New England Patriots WR [Marqise Lee](=) has opted out of the 2020 season, according to a league source. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Another Patriots player choosing to opt out, although Lee was going to be hard pressed to make the 53-man roster. His one-year contract will toll into 2021. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 6. [NE - Isaiah Zuber meets with NE]() Source: ESPN.com - Mike Reiss Free-agent WR Isaiah Zuber (Patriots) recently met with the New England Patriots. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Zuber was solid in college at Kansas State, catching around 50 passes for his final two seasons there. As a redshirt senior, he transferred to Mississippi State in 2019 and failed to make much of an impact (only 14 catches) coming off hip surgery. We'll see if he signs with the Patriots as a camp body/long-shot to make the 53-man roster. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- FOOTBALLGUYS PICKS Know the 2020 Rookies - Our friend Matt Waldman dives deep into NFL Draft Prospects with a Fantasy Football lens. [Get the Rookie Scouting Portfolio here](. --------------------------------------------------------------- Practice Mock Drafting - Practice makes perfect with the Footballguys Draft Dominator app powered by 50+ staffers of Footballguys. [Check it out here](. --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 7. [TEN - QB a fan of Darrynton Evans](=) Source: TennesseeTitans.com - Jim Wyatt Tennessee Titans RB Darrynton Evans has impressed QB [Ryan Tannehill](=) with his receiving ability. 'Catching the football, really natural,' Tannehill said. 'When you see a running back catch the ball naturally, whether they're coming out of the backfield or split out wide, it definitely adds another element to the offense and can give defenses a hard time.' [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Evans is going to do that to a lot of teammates. He's a no-nonsense runner who charges through the offensive line with authority. There's not a lot of dancing to his game, and he does offer some big-play ability with the rock in his hands. The rookie from Appalachian State will serve as the primary backup to Derrick Henry in 2020. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 8. [NFL - DT Robert Nkemdiche talking with teams](=) Source: NFL.com Free agent DT Robert Nkemdiche (Dolphins) has had recent discussions with unidentified teams with a number of defensive tackles opting out of the 2020 season. Nkemdiche reportedly has dropped his weight to 315 pounds, down from 345. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Nkemdiche has physical gifts with strength and quickness but he was a bust after being a first-round pick of the Cardinals in the 2016 NFL draft. He got a chance with the Dolphins but that didn't last and he's been out of football since last November. Injuries (knee) and lack of conditioning caused him to wash out quickly. We'll see if the number of DTs opting out gives Nkemdiche another chance. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 9. [BAL - Jacob Breeland likely to miss season](=) Source: The Athletic - Jeff Zrebiec Baltimore Ravens TE Jacob Breeland (knee) is expected to miss the 2020 season as he continues to recover from knee surgery. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Breeland was picked up by the Ravens as a UDFA out of Oregon in 2020. A left knee injury in October last year ended his final season with the Ducks. That same injury is going to cause him to miss his first pro season. He's got build up speed but lacks separation on short-to-intermediate routes. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 10. [CIN - Brandon Allen, Tristan Vizcaino sign]( Source: Bengals.com Free agent QB [Brandon Allen](=) (Broncos) and PK Tristan Vizcaino (Cowboys) agreed to terms Saturday, Aug. 1, with the Cincinnati Bengals.. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Allen was in for the Broncos last year as a starter for a couple of games but really struggled. He's most likely going to be a camp arm for the Bengals and try to latch on as a reserve behind 2020 no.1 overall pick Joe Burrow. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 11. [CLE - TE David Njoku no longer seeking trade]( Source: The Cleveland Plain Dealer - Mary Kay Cabot Cleveland Browns TE [David Njoku](=) is no longer seeking a trade and is ready to play for the Browns in 2020. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Njoku has plenty of physical talent, but he was disgruntled with the Browns and wanted to move on. He met with team officials and now says that he's 'all in' via social networking. Njoku will serve as the team's no.2 tight end behind free agent addition Austin Hooper.
