[ATL - No practice for TE Austin Hooper] --------------------------------------------------------------- 1. [ATL - WR Julio Jones limited Thursday] Source: NewOrleansSaints.com Updating a previous report, Atlanta Falcons WR [Julio Jones] (toe) was limited in practice Thursday, Dec. 29. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Jones is likely to be full go this weekend in a spectacular matchup against the Saints "secondary" - and yes, that was meant to be in quotes. The only limiting factor could be an early lead, which would likely get him on the sideline. [Back to Top] --------------------------------------------------------------- 2. [SD - RB Melvin Gordon back on the field] Source: The San Diego Union-Tribune - Michael Gehlken San Diego Chargers RB [Melvin Gordon] (hip, knee) is participating in practice Thursday, Dec. 29. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] It's a bad matchup, and he's coming off a significant injury while also playing for a team which has little to play for. [Back to Top] --------------------------------------------------------------- 3. [PIT - RB DeAngelo Williams may be used often] Source: ESPN.com - Jeremy Fowler Pittsburgh Steelers RB [DeAngelo Williams] may receive a solid amount of playing time in Week 17 because he missed several weeks with a knee injury, in the opinion of ESPN.com's Jeremy Fowler. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Williams should be a solid start, but we're not sure if he will split time with Fitzgerald Toussaint. As that is the case, we are avoiding both unless there is clarity in the next few days. [Back to Top] --------------------------------------------------------------- 4. [WAS - WR DeSean Jackson practices] Source: Redskins.com Washington Redskins WR [DeSean Jackson] (jaw) fully participated in practice Thursday, Dec. 29. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] The Giants secondary is a tad battered, so if Jackson is healthy, he is an excellent start this weekend. Jackson is coming off three straight 100-yard games, and we feel he could come close to making it four. [Back to Top] --------------------------------------------------------------- 5. [CIN - TE Tyler Eifert undergoes surgery] Source: Sirius XM NFL Radio - Alex Marvez Cincinnati Bengals TE [Tyler Eifert] (back) underwent back surgery Tuesday, Dec. 28, according to head coach Marvin Lewis. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] This back injury wasn't the only problem Eifert had this season. He had an ankle problem that required surgery and a lengthy recovery. He's played eight games this season, and Eifert has never played a full 16-game season. He needs to prove that he can stay durable and produce next season. Eifert is on the books for $4.7 million in the final year of his rookie deal in 2017. [Back to Top] --------------------------------------------------------------- 6. [WAS - TE Jordan Reed limited] Source: Redskins.com Washington Redskins TE [Jordan Reed] (shoulder) was limited in practice Thursday, Dec. 29. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Reed's injury is a concern, and he has had two awful games. As a result, we are pretty cool on him this week and wouldn't put him in our lineups unless we were up against a wall. [Back to Top] --------------------------------------------------------------- 7. [WAS - Rob Kelley has limited practice] Source: Redskins.com Washington Redskins RB [Rob Kelley] (knee) practiced on a limited basis Thursday, Dec. 29. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Kelley has a tough matchup against a good front seven, but we expect him to get plenty of carries and like his overall floor against the Giants this weekend. [Back to Top] --------------------------------------------------------------- 8. [IND - RB Frank Gore full go] Source: Colts.com Indianapolis Colts RB [Frank Gore] (rest) participated fully in practice Thursday, Dec. 29. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Gore is likely to make a strong push to crack 1,000 yards and given his age and the relative ineptitude of the offensive line, we should applaud him for it. It's a good matchup for him this weekend, so we expect him to get far more than the 36 yards he needs to reach that goal. [Back to Top] --------------------------------------------------------------- 9. [IND - QB Andrew Luck added to injury report] Source: Colts.com Indianapolis Colts QB [Andrew Luck] (shoulder) was a limited practice participant Thursday, Dec. 29. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] We think this is just a day off, but we will watch the practice reports tomorrow. Luck has a nice matchup against Jacksonville, and would be a solid starter this weekend if he plays, given how the Jags offense has been inconsistent. [Back to Top] --------------------------------------------------------------- 10. [IND - WR Donte Moncrief absent again] Source: Colts.com Indianapolis Colts WR [Donte Moncrief] (shoulder) did not practice Thursday, Dec. 29. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] We're leaning towards Moncrief not playing this weekend, leaving TY Hilton as the big gun in the passing offense and the best start. [Back to Top] --------------------------------------------------------------- 11. [NYJ - Robby Anderson misses practice] Source: NewYorkJets.com New York Jets WR [Robby Anderson] (hamstring) did not practice Thursday, Dec. 29. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] If he plays, we don't high hopes for him in this offense. Anderson is an intriguing pickup for dynasty leagues this offseason, though. [Back to Top] --------------------------------------------------------------- 12. [NYJ - WR Brandon Marshall not at practice] Source: NewYorkJets.com New York Jets WR [Brandon Marshall] (hip, shoulder) missed practice Thursday, Dec. 29. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Marshall had a rant during halftime in the blowout by the Patriots last week and it didn't go over well. It seems the honeymoon is over and we wouldn't be surprised if the Jets and Marshall "consciously uncoupled" this offseason as the Jets reboot. [Back to Top] --------------------------------------------------------------- 13. [BUF - No practice for QB Tyrod Taylor] Source: BuffaloBills.com Buffalo Bills QB [Tyrod Taylor] (groin) did not practice Thursday, Dec. 29. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] As expected EJ Manuel will get the start and is anyone really watching this game because it could be quite ugly. Suffice to stay, don't start any quarterback in this game. [Back to Top] --------------------------------------------------------------- 14. [BUF - TE Charles Clay also limited] Source: BuffaloBills.com Buffalo Bills TE [Charles Clay] (knee) was limited in practice Thursday, Dec. 29. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] It's the Jets so a suddenly mediocre tight end looks very good. Clay could be a sneaky play this weekend against a Jets team which might not even know what a tight end looks like given their lack of success stopping them on defense and their refusal to use them on offense. [Back to Top] --------------------------------------------------------------- 15. [BUF - WR Sammy Watkins limited] Source: BuffaloBills.com Buffalo Bills WR [Sammy Watkins] (foot) was limited in practice Thursday, Dec. 29. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Watkins is in a run-first offense with EJ Manuel throwing the ball, so even though the matchup against the pathetic Jets secondary is choice, Watkins' ceiling is rather low. He's a decent start, but a bit risky. [Back to Top] --------------------------------------------------------------- 16. [DAL - RB Darren McFadden may see most carries] Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport Dallas Cowboys RB [Darren McFadden] likely will receive most of the snaps at running back in Week 17 since the team likely will give RB [Ezekiel Elliott] limited work. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Elliott is going to have to be fresh for the playoffs. They will give him some work, but it will be severely curtailed. McFadden is likely to get a lot of work though, and should be an excellent start against Philadelphia this weekend. [Back to Top] --------------------------------------------------------------- 17. [DAL - QB Mark Sanchez expected to play] Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport Dallas Cowboys QB [Mark Sanchez] will be active for the team's Week 17 game and is expected to play once the team decides to take QB [Dak Prescott] out of the game. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] This makes it impossible to confidently play either guy as Prescott could be in for one snap, one quarter or the whole game, which means Sanchez might be in a lot or not at all. Go with a quarterback we know will be in the whole game. [Back to Top] --------------------------------------------------------------- 18. [BUF - QB Tyrod Taylor to meet with doctor] Source: The Buffalo News - Vic Carucci Buffalo Bills QB [Tyrod Taylor] (groin) is scheduled to meet with a doctor in Philadelphia to determine if he will need to undergo groin surgery. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] The Bills need to figure out the future of the position going forward and the uncertainly is likely to complicate their coaching search. Taylor has shown flashes, but is he the guy? And if not, where does the next guy come from? [Back to Top] --------------------------------------------------------------- 19. [CIN - RB Jeremy Hill does not practice] Source: Bengals.com Cincinnati Bengals RB [Jeremy Hill] (knee) did not participate in practice Thursday, Dec. 29. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] We don't think Hill will play, but Rex Burkhead should be a solid start against Baltimore this weekend. The Baltimore defense doesn't allow more than 85.1 yards a game, but Burkhead should get enough carries (and a few receptions) to make him worth a start. [Back to Top] --------------------------------------------------------------- 20. [PHI - WR Jordan Matthews does not practice] Source: PhiladelphiaEagles.com Philadelphia Eagles WR [Jordan Matthews] (ankle) did not participate in practice Thursday, Dec. 29. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] With Carson Wentz at the helm, the Eagles offense has been shaky. Matthews hasn't topped 100 yards since Week 1 and hasn't been in the end zone since Week 8. Matthews has some upside, but is far too likely to put up another sub-optimal game. [Back to Top] --------------------------------------------------------------- 21. [HOU - RB Lamar Miller sits out again] Source: Houston Chronicle - Aaron Wilson Houston Texans RB [Lamar Miller] (ankle) is not participating in practice Thursday, Dec. 29. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] If Miller is out, Alfred Blue is a solid start against the Tennessee Titans. We expect him to have a full load of carries, but his limited skillset puts a low ceiling on his production. [Back to Top] --------------------------------------------------------------- 22. [JAX - QB Blake Bortles practices Thursday] Source: Jaguars.com Jacksonville Jaguars QB [Blake Bortles] (shoulder, wrist) fully participated in practice Thursday, Dec. 29. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Bortles is just as capable of a terrible game as he is a great game. There are a lot more reliable options this weekend, even with some of the teams in the league playing for nothing and resting players. [Back to Top] --------------------------------------------------------------- 23. [JAX - Limited practice for WR Marqise Lee] Source: Jaguars.com Jacksonville Jaguars WR [Marqise Lee] (hip) was limited during practice Thursday, Dec. 29. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Lee isn't more than a "hail mary" type start, and we don't trust him this week. He has upside, but his floor is too low to trust. [Back to Top] --------------------------------------------------------------- 24. [JAX - RB Chris Ivory listed as limited] Source: Jaguars.com Jacksonville Jaguars RB [Chris Ivory] (hamstring) was limited during practice Thursday, Dec. 29. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Ivory has a good matchup, but has not put up reliable numbers this season. Even facing a poor Colts defense, we don't trust him in Week 17 lineups. [Back to Top] --------------------------------------------------------------- 25. [JAX - WR Allen Hurns remains sidelined] Source: Jaguars.com Jacksonville Jaguars WR [Allen Hurns] (hamstring) did not participate in practice Thursday, Dec. 29. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] We won't see Hurns this weekend, but Allen Robinson is a solid start against the Colts this weekend. [Back to Top] --------------------------------------------------------------- 26. [NYJ - RB Bilal Powell injury update] Source: The Associated Press - Dennis Waszak Jr. Updating a previous report, New York Jets RB [Bilal Powell] (illness, knee) did not practice Thursday, Dec. 29, because of an illness. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] We'll watch this. Powell would have a nice matchup if he plays, but we won't touch any replacement if he doesn't. [Back to Top] --------------------------------------------------------------- 27. [ATL - WR Taylor Gabriel will be limited] Source: ESPN.com - Vaughn McClure Atlanta Falcons WR [Taylor Gabriel] (foot) will be a limited participant in practice Thursday, Dec. 29, according to head coach Dan Quinn. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Gabriel has been a bit streaky in terms of catches and targets, but has scored touchdowns two out of the last three games. He faces a suspect secondary, but is a little too touchdown dependent to rely on. [Back to Top] --------------------------------------------------------------- 28. [CLE - Robert Griffin likely will start] Source: The Cleveland Plain Dealer - Mary Kay Cabot Cleveland Browns QB [Robert Griffin III] (concussion) likely will start against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 17 as long as he does not suffer a setback. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] We won't be starting him, even if the Steelers might take their foot off the gas. The Browns got their win last week, and we expect things to revert to "Factory of Sadness" levels again this week. [Back to Top] --------------------------------------------------------------- 29. [NYJ - RB Matt Forte sitting again] Source: New York Post - Brian Costello New York Jets RB [Matt Forte] (knee) is not participating in practice Thursday, Dec. 29. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] He won't likely play this weekend, and Bilal Powell will get the snaps and some nice yards against the Bills. [Back to Top] --------------------------------------------------------------- 30. [BUF - RB LeSean McCoy on the field] Source: BuffaloBills.com - Chris Brown Buffalo Bills RB [LeSean McCoy] (illness) is participating in practice Thursday, Dec. 29. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] McCoy faces a Jets defense which is a shadow of itself. He's a great start this weekend, and should be in your lineup in all formats. [Back to Top] --------------------------------------------------------------- 31. [CLE - RB Duke Johnson back at practice] Source: Medina County Gazette - Scott Petrak Cleveland Browns RB [Duke Johnson] (ankle) returned to practice Thursday, Dec. 29. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Johnson doesn't get enough carries to warrant a start. Isaiah Crowell should get the lions share of the carries and has the best chance of success. Crowell is a decent start this week, even though the Steelers are the opponent. [Back to Top] --------------------------------------------------------------- 32. [NE - RB Dion Lewis back at practice] Source: NESN.com - Zack Cox New England Patriots RB [Dion Lewis] (illness) returned to practice Thursday, Dec. 29. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Lewis has seen a large uptick in carries the last two games, but we think this will be more of a split with James White and LeGarrette Blount, limiting his impact. He has upside, but he's also very risky. [Back to Top] --------------------------------------------------------------- 33. [NE - QB Tom Brady returns to practice] Source: CSNNE.com - Phil Perry New England Patriots QB [Tom Brady] (thigh) returned to practice Thursday, Dec. 29. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Brady is a great play this weekend, even against a decent Miami defense. The Patriots have everything to play for and the game is early enough to where the team won't know if they can afford a loss. So expect this to be business as usual. [Back to Top] --------------------------------------------------------------- 34. [NYJ - Nick Mangold not considering retirement] Source: The Star-Ledger - Darryl Slater New York Jets C Nick Mangold (ankle) said he's not considering retirement after the season. He's signed for one more year with the Jets. He said he'll know in two or three weeks if he'll need ankle surgery, but he'd be ready for training camp. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] The Jets have to start looking past the end of Mangold's career though having him back next year could help with a transition. The offensive line needs a hard reboot though, and that's at every position. [Back to Top] --------------------------------------------------------------- 35. [PHI - RB Terrell Watson likely to be promoted] Source: The Philadelphia Inquirer - Zach Berman Philadelphia Eagles RB Terrell Watson is likely to be promoted to the 53-man roster this week, according to head coach Doug Pederson. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Byron Marshall and Darren Sproles are the only healthy backs on the roster. Watson is a big-bodied runner, but he's not elusive or creative with the ball in his hand. If he's activated, Watson isn't a fantasy asset to consider in Week 17. [Back to Top] --------------------------------------------------------------- 36. [NYJ - Todd Bowles coming back in 2017] Source: New York Daily News - Gary Myers New York Jets head coach Todd Bowles will return for the 2017 season, according to a well-placed source close to the team. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] The concern Jets fans should have is the current chaos in the locker-room. Pair that with Mo Wilkerson's skipping meetings, Sheldon Richardson's lack of focus and Darrelle Revis ghosting the last half of the season and this won't instill confidence anytime soon. [Back to Top] --------------------------------------------------------------- 37. [PHI - Byron Marshall to see expanded role] Source: USA TODAY Sports - Turron Davenport Philadelphia Eagles RB [Byron Marshall] should see an expanded role in the regular season finale against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 17. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] We still see Darren Sproles as a slightly better play (in PPR leagues) in a tough matchup against the Dallas Cowboys. The only good thing here is that the Cowboys don't have anything to play for and can rest starters, so Marshall and Sproles might both have success against bench players. [Back to Top] --------------------------------------------------------------- 38. [SD - TE Antonio Gates might play in 2017] Source: The San Diego Union-Tribune - Michael Gehlken San Diego Chargers TE [Antonio Gates] indicated Wednesday, Dec. 28, that he might play one more season in 2017. 'This is not the way I expected to be done. I'm definitely leaning toward coming back,' Gates said. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Gates is coming off a nice effort in a loss to the Cleveland Browns, so we would imagine he feels he has to come back. The Chargers should be a team competing each year but after back to back 9-7 seasons under head coach Mike McCoy, it's been all downhill. Gates has a tough matchup this weekend, and while we think he could be a reliable play in a week where a lot of other tight ends may be resting or on short minutes. [Back to Top] --------------------------------------------------------------- 39. [ATL - No practice for TE Austin Hooper] Source: NewOrleansSaints.com Atlanta Falcons TE [Austin Hooper] (knee) did not practice Thursday, Dec. 29. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] We would avoid the tight end position this week if Hooper is out. Taylor Gabriel, Julio Jones and Tevin Coleman will get most of the targets.
