[NE - New England agrees to deal for QB Cam Newton]() Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter Free-agent QB [Cam Newton]( (Patriots) reportedly agreed to terms on a one-year contract worth up to $7.5 million with New England Patriots on Sunday, June 28, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Here we go... This one has multiple angles. Our Sigmund Bloom had this: "Cam Newton should be a low QB1 because of the running ability and goal-line love. Takes the edge off of what little appeal there was left in Michel. Pass attempts should top out around 500. McCaffrey's 2018 should pump a little life back into James White 2020 FF outlook. There's no one in the Greg Olsen or Kelvin Benjamin mold on the roster, but perhaps if we hear that Harry is being molded as a big slot receiver that could be interesting. At least we know Cam will throw to contested-catch receivers." Also I can't believe the league let Belichick do this. I do not understand why one of the best quarterbacks of this era was allowed to be on the street for so long. if he's broken, so be it, the upside he adds to your offense if healthy is worth the $ to see what happens. Also pay attention when [Bill Belichick gushes about someone. From 2017:]( "I think when you're talking about mobile quarterbacks -- guys that are tough to handle, can throw, run, make good decisions ... -- I would put him at the top of the list," Belichick said Wednesday. "Not saying there aren't a lot of other good players that do that, but I would say of all the guys we played recently in the last couple of years, I think he's the hardest guy to (defend). He makes good decisions, can run. He's strong. He's hard to tackle. He can do a lot of different things. He can beat you in a lot of different ways. We saw that in the game in 2013. I would put him at the top of the list. I'm not saying the other guys aren't a problem, because they are. But he's maybe public enemy No. 1." On the other side, Clayton Gray had this: "I know we all love the player Cam Newton once was, but this contract is a bare-minimum, incentive-laden deal for a quarterback no one wanted to throw money at. Before we make N'Keal Harry a top-20 receiver, let's also accept the possibility that Newton doesn't have it anymore. Before we anoint Newton as the unquestioned starter, let's also accept the possibility that the contract is structured so that New England could cut Newton in the preseason if they are happy with Stidham." We'll likely know more here soon. One thing's for sure: this is going to be fun. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 2. [BAL - WR Marquise Brown ready to roll](=) Source: The Athletic - Jeff Zrebiec Baltimore Ravens WR [Marquise Brown]( 'had a great offseason physically,' according to offensive coordinator Greg Roman. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Brown entered last year as a rookie still recovering from the Lisfranc injury that kept him from participating in the pre-draft process. His rookie season was full of ups and downs, but this year he's looking to post great numbers. The Ravens have a run-heavy offense, but Brown is the preferred wide receiver on the team. He's a WR3 for Fantasy GMs with the upside to be more if he pays off on his big-play ability. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 3. [ATL - RB Ito Smith healthy]( Source: ESPN.com - Vaughn McClure Atlanta Falcons RB [Ito Smith]( said he has completely recovered from the neck injury he suffered during the 2019 season. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Smith only made it through seven games in 2019 before he was injured. He ran the ball 22 times for 106 yards and one rushing touchdown. Smith is a slashing runner who right now is the no.2 back for the Falcons behind starter Todd Gurley. We'll see if he can hang onto that spot in training camp as he will be pushed by Qadree Ollison and Brian Hill. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 4. [KC - Byron Pringle may see bigger role](=) Source: ChiefsWire - Charles Goldman Kansas City Chiefs WR [Byron Pringle]( may receive more snaps on offense and as a return specialist this upcoming season, in the opinion of ChiefsWire's Charles Goldman. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] That could very well be the case, but we doubt Pringle has much of a fantasy impact this season unless someone is injured above him on the depth chart. He will compete with Demarcus Robinson for the no.4 spot behind Tyreek Hill, Sammy Watkins and Mecole Hardman. Pringle did flash a bit last year in spot duty, so keep him on your waiver wire speed dial. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 5. [MIA - Several WRs to compete for spots](=) Source: The Miami Herald - Barry Jackson Miami Dolphins WRs [Allen Hurns](, [Gary Jennings]( and [Isaiah Ford]( will be among the receivers to compete for one or two spots on the final roster. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] The Dolphins have DeVante Parker, Preston Williams and Albert Wilson as their top three wide receivers. Behind them, Jakeem Grant should make the team due to his ability as a return man. That leaves one or two spots open for Hurns, Jennings or Ford. Jennings is learning multiple positions this offseason and certainly has the most upside of the three. Hurns is the seasoned veteran who is good for about 20 catches a year. Ford was thrust into a larger role over the last month of the 2019 season and finished with 21 catches over that four-game stretch. We'll see if that momentum helps him win a spot on the 53-man roster this year. [NYG - NYG uncertain about OT situation]( Source: ESPN.com - Jordan Raanan New York Giants OTs Nate Solder and Andrew Thomas are the leading candidates to start at offensive tackle this upcoming season, but the team is not sure which side they will be used. Solder and Thomas are expected to receive snaps at left tackle and right tackle during training camp. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Solder is the veteran left tackle who is average to below average as a starter. Thomas is the team's first-round pick from the 2020 NFL draft and arguably the best tackle prospect in this draft class. Either player could play right or left tackle. We'll see this competition shake out in training camp with the winner at left tackle in charge of protecting QB Daniel Jones blind side. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 7. [ATL - RB Qadree Ollison should have role]( Source: ESPN.com - Vaughn McClure Atlanta Falcons RB [Qadree Ollison]( could be used as a short yardage running back this upcoming season. He had four rushing touchdowns that were three yards or fewer in 2019. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Ollison may be no.4 on the depth chart right now, but he could quickly catapult to as high as no.2 by the end of training camp. Todd Gurley is the team's starter but if he can't stay healthy then the team will be looking for someone to be their lead back. That could be Ollison given his power, balance and burst that the others on the roster (Ito Smith, Brian Hill) don't have. We love him in dynasty formats and will keep him on waiver wire speed dial in redraft leagues. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 8. [PIT - Alex Highsmith may have solid role]() Source: SteelersWire - Curt Popejoy Pittsburgh Steelers LB Alex Highsmith has a chance to receive a solid amount of defensive snaps this upcoming season since the team does not have a lot of depth at outside linebacker. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Everyone needs to Google Highsmith's spin chop right now. It's a thing of beauty, even though it looks kind of odd. Highsmith uses his flying spin chop move...and a variety of other moves...to get after the passer. He should work in a part-time role for the Steelers in 2020 with the one goal of getting to the quarterback as often as possible. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 9. [ATL - Kurt Benkert may push for backup job]( Source: ESPN.com - Vaughn McClure Atlanta Falcons QB Kurt Benkert may push QB [Matt Schaub]( for the No. 2 quarterback job, but Schaub is the clear favorite for the job. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Benkert is built a lot like Schaub, but just a much younger version. Both quarterbacks played their college ball at Virginia and are known as prototypical pocket passers. Schaub was a third-round pick way back in the 2004 NFL draft, while Benkert was picked up as an undrafted free agent in 2018 and has been developing on the Falcons roster ever since. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 10. [NYJ - ILB Avery Williamson will need to earn spot]( Source: ESPN.com - Rich Cimini New York Jets LB Avery Williamson (knee) will have a chance to earn a spot on the final roster during the preseason, according to inside linebackers coach Frank Bush. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] If healthy, Williams can play sideline-to-sideline football and covers space in the open field well. Bush indicated the team wants to see how Williamson has recovered from his torn anterior cruciate ligament.
