[Quality Starts: Quarterbacks]( "Quality Starts" is a term pioneered from the Fantasy Baseball gurus. It's a statistic that represents how often a starting pitcher will put up a good (not great, just good) performance in a given game. Jeff Pasquino brings it to Football and in this one, applies it to quarterbacks. [] INSIDE THIS ISSUE 1. [SF - Brandon Aiyuk under contract](#1) 2. [SF - Brandon Aiyuk under contract](=) Source: NBC Sports Bay Area - Matt Maiocco San Francisco 49ers first-round draft choice WR Brandon Aiyuk signed a four-year contract with the 49ers Friday, June 26. Financial terms were not disclosed. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Aiyuk is going to play a larger-than-expected role early on as a rookie due to the injury to Deebo Samuel. The rookie from Arizona State is all about gaining yards after the catch. He can set up defenders in the open field and make them look silly when they try to get an angle on him. The 49ers had him graded highly and were thrilled to get him in the first round of the 2020 NFL draft. He could make an impact from day one. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 2. [NFL - QB Colin Kaepernick has not been contacted]() Source: ProFootballTalk.com - Mike Florio Free-agent QB [Colin Kaepernick]( (49ers) has not been contacted by any team over the last several weeks. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] There has been a ton of speculation about teams having interest but nothing official just yet. Tones have changes around the league about Kaepernick but until we start seeing him get workouts for teams, it's difficult to get too excited about his return to the NFL. We'll see if that changes as training camp draws near. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 3. [CLE - QB Baker Mayfield struggled on deep passes]() Source: ProFootballFocus.com Cleveland Browns QB [Baker Mayfield]( threw seven interceptions on throws that traveled at least 20 yards during the 2019 season. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Mayfield was usually under great duress if a play took too long to develop. The team put better protection in front of him this year and that should calm things down when the QB has to go deep. Will see if that helps him improve the numbers in this area in 2020. [IND - QB Philip Rivers threw INTs on deep passes]() Source: ProFootballFocus.com Indianapolis Colts QB [Philip Rivers]( threw nine interceptions on throws that traveled at least 20 yards during the 2019 season when he was a member of the Los Angeles Chargers. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Rivers threw interceptions all over the field. Is he done, or was 2019 just a bad year? Rivers is getting close to the end of his career, but he was interesting enough to the Colts for them to add him and make him their starter. We'll see if he can bounce back and cut down on the picks in 2020. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 5. [MIA - WR Gary Jennings learning multiple positions](=) Source: The Miami Herald - Barry Jackson Miami Dolphins WR [Gary Jennings]( has been learning the slot receiver position as well as the boundary receiver position this offseason. He is expected to compete for one of the final receiver spots on the roster. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Jennings was a fourth-round pick of the Seahawks in the 2019 NFL draft but he was waived in the fall and picked up by the Dolphins...where he was hurt in his first game. He's got the size, measuring at 6'1" 215 pounds and that could come in handy from the slot. In college at West Virginia, Jennings used his size to keep defenders away from the ball and was known as a good route-runner. We'll keep an eye on him in deep dynasty formats.
