[SF - RB Raheem Mostert extension looming?]( Source: The Athletic - Matt Barrows San Francisco 49ers RB [Raheem Mostert]( soon could receive a contract extension this offseason, in the opinion of one team beat reporter. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Mostert was the best 49ers running back last year and Tevin Coleman only has one year left on his contract, so a modest extension for Mostert makes sense. The 49ers will likely continue their RBBC plan in the regular season, but Mostert is the most valuable member and could outproduce his mid-round fantasy draft stock. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 2. [NE - QB Jarrett Stidham working with Edelman]() Source: ESPNBoston.com - Mike Reiss New England Patriots QB [Jarrett Stidham]( has regularly been working out with WR [Julian Edelman]( as both are based out of Massachusetts. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] This is as good news as you could hope for if you are invested in Edelman. He should be the leading target for an offense that will take a step back in passing efficiency. Stidham should be the starter to open the season, but Brian Hoyer is waiting in the wings if the 2019 fourth-round pick fails. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 3. [PIT - QB Ben Roethlisberger an award favorite](=) Source: ProFootballTalk.com - Michael David Smith Pittsburgh Steelers QB [Ben Roethlisberger]( (elbow) is a co-favorite, along with Tampa Bay Buccaneers TE [Rob Gronkowski]( to win the 2020 NFL Comeback Player of the Year award, according to odds posted by MGM. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] The durability of both is in question, but the year off for Gronkowski could improve his ability to stay on the field, and Roethlisberger should be more effective passing than he was in Week 1 last year, when he was playing with his elbow injury. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 4. [HOU - Brad Seely retires]() Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter Houston Texans special teams coordinator Brad Seely announced his retirement Friday, June 5. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Seely has been in the league since 1989 and won three rings under Bill Belichick in New England. Houston's special teams improved 26th in the league before he took over in 2018 to 4th last year, according to Football Outsiders. The Texans did not name his successor, but assistant special teams coach Tracy Smith has worked with Seely for ten years and could take over seamlessly. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 5. [GB - Jon Runyan signs rookie deal]() Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter Green Bay Packers sixth-round draft choice OT Jon Runyan Jr. signed a four-year contract with the Packers Friday, June 5. Financial terms were not disclosed. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] The son of the former Pro Bowl Eagle tackle could kick inside to guard in the NFL. He has good football acumen but needs to develop strength and refine his technique to make it in the NFL. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 6. [NYJ - NYJ interested in Kyle Long]( Source: New York Daily News - Manish Mehta Retired OL Kyle Long (Bears) has had discussions with the New York Jets about coming out of retirement. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] The Jets lured Ryan Kalil out of retirement last year, but the results weren't great, with Kalil ending up on injured reserve in November. Long's body had broken down due to multiple surgeries, so even if there is actually something to this story, Jets fans shouldn't get their hopes up about Long saving the rebuilding offensive line. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 7. [KC - Andrew Soroh back with Chiefs](=) Source: ProFootballTalk.com - Josh Alper Free agent S Andrew Soroh (XFL) on Friday, June 5, agreed to a deal to re-sign with the Kansas City Chiefs. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Soroh was with the Chiefs last summer as an undrafted free agent, but was let go at the final cutdown date. He ended up being a sixth round pick by the New York Guardians in the XFL defensive back draft and recording 20 tackles and an interception. His familiarity with the Chiefs system and safety/linebacker versatility could give him an outside shot to make the team. [PHI - RB Devonta Freeman unlikely to PHI]( Source: NJ.com - Zack Rosenblatt Free-agent RB [Devonta Freeman]( (Falcons) is unlikely to land with the Philadelphia Eagles. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Freeman also apparently has not heard from the Bucs even though Bruce Arians indicated that they would be interested if his price dropped. The veteran has good pass blocking and receiving skills, but he has lost burst and only fits as a role player even though he reportedly wants starter money. He will likely have to wait for a running back injury to get strong interest from a team. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 9. [TB - RB Devonta Freeman seeking out Bucs]( Source: Twitter Free-agent RB [Devonta Freeman]( (Falcons) suggested on Twitter that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers should contact him directly. 'I read in the media that Tampa Bay Buccaneers are interested,' Freeman tweeted. 'A number of teams are interested, but we can't negotiate through the media, the Buccaneers can reach out to me directly.' [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] The Bucs don't have a veteran presence in the backfield but beat writers have suggested that once the team drafted Ke'Shawn Vaughn in the third round, that they foreclosed the possibility of signing a veteran back. Bruce Arians indicated that there was some interest in Freeman recently, but at a lower price than what he wants. It sounds like the Bucs never reached out to him, so Arians statement might not be a reason to think that they will sign Freeman or another back before the season. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 10. [CIN - William Jackson trade offers rebuffed]( Source: Houston Chronicle - Aaron Wilson Cincinnati Bengals CB William Jackson III (labrum) was the target of 'mutliple' trade inquiries from other teams before the trade deadline last season, and the Bengals turned all of them down. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Jackson was considered a rising star at cornerback at one point, but playing through a torn labrum last year lowered his level of play. The team signed Trae Waynes this offseason, but Jackson is back on his fifth-year option and the Bengals could still sign him to a long-term deal if he bounces back. If not, it sounds like his services are still wanted elsewhere and a trade could get done before the deadline. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 11. [SF - QB Jimmy Garoppolo headed for greatness?](=) Source: CSNBayArea.com - Matt Maiocco San Francisco 49ers QB [Jimmy Garoppolo]( continues to receive lavish praise from the team this offseason, the latest coming from head coach Kyle Shanahan on Thursday, June 4. 'When you have to talk to Jimmy about one of the best quarterbacks of all time ([Tom Brady]() being available, I know Jimmy has a goal to be that,' Shanahan said on a video call with reporters. 'I know Jimmy. I believe Jimmy has the ability to be that, and that's what both of us are going for. If we can get him there and he has the ability to do it, we're going to be pretty happy with who we have for a long time.' [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] The 49ers are doing the right thing by building up his confidence, although it still stands that Garoppolo was a small part of their offense in the playoffs and failed when he had a chance to regain the lead in the fourth quarter of the Super Bowl. If Kirk Cousins was going to be available next year, he might be the favorite to be the 2021 49ers quarterback. We'll be watching to see if Garoppolo has any additional self-doubt after how his season ended. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 12. [MIA - Jonathan Hubbard to work at OG, OT](=) Source: The Miami Herald - Barry Jackson Miami Dolphins OT Jonathan Hubbard said part of the reason he signed with the Dolphins is that they plan to line him up at both offensive guard and offensive tackle. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Hubbard got $35,000 guaranteed and picked Miami out of three teams, in part because of his conversation with Brian Flores. The Dolphins offensive line is under construction, so there could be opportunity there down the line for him. Hubbard was part of a line at Northwestern State (La.) that gave up a sack on only 3.9% of their 517 pass attempts with him in the lineup. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 13. [MIA - Two UDFAs to compete for No. 4 DT job](=) Source: The Miami Herald - Barry Jackson Miami Dolphins DTs Ray Lima and Benito Jones are expected to compete with DT Zach Sieler for the No. 4 defensive tackle job during training camp. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Lima got $27,000 and Jones $25,000 so the Dolphins see some potential there, but the team could also keep only three defensive tackles, so their best long-term opportunity might come after a stay on the practice squad. Lima was a three-year starter at Iowa State and Jones was a former five-star prospect and Freshman All-SEC first team and Freshman All-American third-team at Ole Miss.
